A Favorite Thing #12

Happy Friday evening or Saturday or Sunday to you! Whatever the day you arrive to share in some favorite things, welcome to A Favorite Thing #12. Let’s look at some highlights from last week:

Tammy, of T’s Daily Treasures, shared her love of moss roses with us. If you’re not familiar with Tammy’s wonderful blog, you should visit her. She lives on the other side of the world in Kuwait in a very hot, arid climate. So she appreciates the beauty and reliability of moss roses.

Deb of Just Cats shared her favorite thing – going out to breakfast with her favorite granddaughter. What a cutie! I notice she has her nails all done up with pretty polish.

Poppy, of Poppy View, shared her beautiful Autumn Room with us. Poppy is Canadian born and bred but she now lives on the island of Crete. I now want to visit both Tammy and Poppy. I love that blogging brings so many of us together from all over the world.

This week I am sharing my current favorite thing. For those of you who read the blog daily, this will be sort of a repeat. I shared this on Monday.

My dog, Riley, died on August 20th and I miss him every day. I couldn’t get rid of his dish – even though it was just a run-of-the-mill plastic dog dish. So I decided to gather some succulents and plant a little garden in his dish. Riley’s Dish Garden. I really love it.

It now sits on top of the kitchen island. As Riley loved nothing more than to eat and look for crumbs on the kitchen floor, I think it’s the perfect place.

Now, it’s your turn!

You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.

One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do. It’s also nice if you leave a comment here, as well.

We have been having way too much fun with your party! Week 12 already??? I love what you did with Riley’s dish. I have memory boxes filled with little things from both the Yorkies prior to Bentley. Just can’t bear to part with anything from them. Oh, and Bentley has most of their old toys too, except for a few that I keep in my drawer … just because. I tell Bentley every day that he is my heart with four legs. Thanks Claudia for another great party!

    Big Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

Nice that you kept Riley’s bowl. I always keep their “last” collar. Thanks again for hosting– you make it so easy to link up– even I can do it!

I had the most exciting revelation about decorating, and my favorite thing today is the thrift stores that allow me to decorate on a dime! Thanks for hostessing, and hope y’all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hugs ~ Mary

It’s such a good idea to have something that’s growing and that you can take care as a reminder of Riley. Hope it’s bringing a little comfort to you every morning when you see it. xo

Reading Favorite Thing Saturday has gotten to be a favorite of mine. So nice to see that it is indeed the simple things in life that are our favorite things! 😉

Our pets certainly are among our Favorite “Things”. After five years we still fondly recall details of life with our Bouvier Charlotte. We now have Phoebe who brings different joys to our household.

Just hopped over from Tammy’s blog at T’s Daily Treasures. Love the idea of keeping the dog dish as a succulent pot. Memories are special and our pets are a part of our family.

Loved what you did with Riley’s dish~ You’ve inspired me to plant catnip in my Oscar’s old pottery food dish. The other cats will love it!

    Hi Claudia,

Thanks so much for featuring my little autumn room! It’s always more special when I get a chance to share it with a good friend, indulging in a few sinful sweets and savouring the latest news. Enjoyed reading your posts the last few days, but haven’t had time to put in my two cents! Looking forward to catching up tomorrow.

Thanks for being such a gracious host. Appreciate your generosity.

I just love Riley’s dish garden. I wish I had thought to do something like that with Sissy’s and Bubba’s dishes, but when I lose Sarge (too painful to think about), perhaps I’ll remember to memorialize him like that. R.I.P., Riley. (He’ll be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. http://www.rainbowbridge.com/Poem.htm)

It’s wonderful how much your Saturday Favorite Thing has grown, Claudia, and always so interesting to see the items people treasure. I think your use of Riley’s dish is a wonderful way to keep part of him close to you each day.
