27 years

July 4, 2021 at 9:03 am by Claudia

Fourth, Schmourth – there’s only one event on we celebrate here; we met each other on this date 27 years ago. We’ve been together 27 years! For many of you, that’s nothing, but considering the fact that we were both in our early forties, it’s a big deal.

Our first conversation was all about our disbelief that we were in our forties! Fast forward to today and we realize once again that we were young  then. I’m now older than my mother was on July 4, 1994. She was about to turn 66.

Anyway, you’ve heard the story before. We were smitten, we flirted, Rick was there and observed some of that first interaction, at the end of the day we did indeed “see fireworks” when we watched them on the beach. I went home that night thinking of Don. He says he was feeling highly attracted to me, or to use his word: lust.

I had no idea, of course, that he would turn out to be the love of my life. I just knew I wanted to run into him again at the theater. And in true high school girl fashion, I engineered more than a few “how nice to bump into you!” meetings. Eventually, when our schedules opened up a bit, we had our first date – at the beach. Before that, though, there was the time he drove me home from an opening night party (where my wallet had been stolen) and kissed me on the steps to my apartment.

Oh boy. I was a goner.

We consider this day to be our most important anniversary. Four years later, on the Fourth of July, Don proposed.

Lucky me!

Have a Happy Fourth of July.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Claudia — I am often amazed how two people manage to find each other — I always say it is a minor miracle!! in the case of the Mr and me, we found each other from over 20,000 UK students more than 50 years ago — how can that be possible??? glad you both have these wonderful memories and are still able to recall those days vividly. hoping your best times are in the future. stay safe, healthy

“No sooner met but they looked; no sooner looked but they loved; no sooner loved but they sighed; no sooner sighed but they asked one another the reason; no sooner knew the reason but they sought the remedy; and in these degrees have they made a pair of stairs to marriage…”

    To many, many more fourths!

We, too, always celebrate the day of our first meeting; 12 April 1975. We were married on 14 February 1976. He had been my next door neighbor for a few years, along with his wife. Our first “meeting” was at their divorce party. It is my second marriage too…and our last. We still adore each other.

Crazy! We share a proposal day!! Hubs proposed to me 50 years ago today. We were watching the Cubs & Pirates playing on TV in his apt during Summer School. We, too, have always celebrated this day and the day of our first date which was April 30. Fun memories…and the Cubs actually won that day!!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
