This particular sunset graced us with its beauty a few weeks ago. Stunning, no?
I’m writing this post early because the delivery company just called and instead of the promised three hour window, they’ve given us a four hour window starting at 9 am. Yikes. That means we have to get up early and I have to pour some coffee down my gullet so that I can think and move my muscles and then we have to:
Move the queen mattress downstairs
Move the split queen box springs downstairs
Take apart the old bed frame – move it downstairs
Remove my homemade headboard and stash it somewhere until I can remove the vintage fabric I used
Pause while I vacuum under the bed
Assemble the new bed frame
Attach the headboard
Move all things that couldn’t be moved until the last minute out of the way
I’ve already moved a lot of the things in my studio into the spare bedroom and I’ve taken anything down from the walls that might be in the way, including the painting and sign that hang on the landing, my mantel shelf in the studio, everything hanging on the wall in the studio, the curtain on the window in the studio and my shelf with all my egg cups which is precariously close to where these guys will be maneuvering the mattresses.
Poor Don. I’m the one in the family that thinks all this through ahead of time and I’ve been talking, talking and talking about it – especially today. In the meantime, in the midst of my obsessive planning, Don found out he is filming a small scene in the television show Elementary and most likely that will be happening on Friday. He’s dealing with travel plans for his departure during the first week of February for 2 months in Boston (jealous) to do The Seagull with the Huntington Theatre Company (a company I used to work for in my Boston days.) It’s been a crazy day. (I’m writing this on Thursday because I won’t have time to write a post tomorrow morning.)
I’m trying the ad over the header, as you can see. It’s a bit jarring to me because I really, really am particular about the look of my blog. But I have to hope that the ad will make enough of a difference in the long run that I will think it’s worth it. Thanks for your support, dear friends.
Okay. Love to you all and Happy Thursday.
UPDATE: After all our work, dismantling everything, etc. THEY BROUGHT THE WRONG SIZE. They brought a King mattress. I am beside myself with anger. We’re waiting to speak to a supervisor.
Deb @ Frugal Little Bungalow says
never noticed the ad :)

Hurray for Don! Yippie yippie!
I didn’t even notice the ad, had to scroll up to see it after your mentioning it – so the placement worked fine for me LOL.

Didn’t see the ad until scrolling up after you mentioned it.
Janie F. says
Didn’t notice the ad at first. Yay! The big day has arrived, now for just surviving your mad dash to get it all done the way it needs to be done. My husband loves Elementary so we’ll be on the look out for the one Don will be in. Cool and windy here today. If I could sell our oak leaves we’d be zillionaires. LOL.
Vera says
Oh Claudia — so sorry about the wrong size. How aggravating! How frustrating! Breathe deeply and exhale. I’ll have to check out Elementary — have not seen it. Once you know when Don will be on an episode, let us know. And, I, too, never noticed the ad at the top.
Francine says
Claudia – so sorry to hear about the mattress mistake after all your work…very frustrating….Maybe they will bring the right mattress before the day is out… I too never noticed the ad above your header – hope it works out for you… I’ll also be on the lookout for Don in Elementary…. Hoping the day ends up on a brighter note for you… Francine

Dear Claudia, I need you to take a deep breath, in through your nose, slowly out through your mouth.
Now sit for a minute. You have done everything in your power to have this transition go smoothly.
What happened is not your fault, nor can you control in anyway way what someone else has done.
How ever frustrating it is!! (VERY). I bet those delivery men wish to high Heaven they hadn’t brought the wrong mattress, right now! lol. The most important thing is that the supervisor, gets the correct one to you in a timely manner, I mean quick and convenient for you! I wish you the best of Luck! and send my oxoxox!

Isn’t that just the way things go sometimes. Yoga breath and will keep you in my prayers. Things always work out….it will probably save you some money:) Please update again and let us know how it goes….maybe, you should let Don handle it, ha.

Hello, Claudia!
I’m just writing to say that I’ve been reading your blog for a while now (I started with the first post and have read up to July 2008) and I find it wonderful! Your writing is engaging and your pictures are lovely! I love your family and your home (I hope I do not sound too presuming!)
I’m sorry about all the trouble the new bed is causing you, but I hope it will soon sort out and you will be able to laugh at what is making you angry now!
Wishing you sweet dreams in the new bed,
Tuta
P.S. I don’t see any ad – have you already removed it?
Mary says
I hear you screaming all the way to NC. OMG Claudia, how low has service become………….not to be able to even get the correct size of such an important item!!!! I know you are frustrated to hell……………….and Don must be too.
Hang in there girl, if ever one needed patience right now, it’s surely you.
Here’s to sweet dreams SOON!
Glad Don has some new projects ahead – both sound great.
Crossing fingers the ‘new’ new mattress arrives quickly.
Hugs – Mary

How dare they…bringing the wrong mattress? Aaaaaahhhhhh!!! Here’s hoping for an easy solution! Never saw the ad til you pointed it out! ;)
Charlotte Aikens says
My daughter used to work at the Huntington. She has her 1st degree in theatre. She worked there for several years in the office, PR I believe. She then moved on to get a MA in English literature and finally a phD in Victorian Literature. She and her husband still live there, well they actually live in Somerville. I love it there.
Debby says
Serious bummer about the mattress. I hope customer service does its job. I didn’t even notice the ad at the top.
GinaE says
I’m exactly the same way. One change often brings the domino effect and I’m a planner, planner, planner about those changes. Beyond frustrating that they brought the wrong mattress!!! You have to put things back just to sleep until they make it right. Horrible!!
Sue @ Serendipity says
I still don’t see the ad at the top-hope it works for you! Not going to touch the “M” incident…..we are beyond angry with you, believe me!
Glad to hear that Don is going to be in Elementary. After almost a year of “I don’t like that” I am hooked on the show. Loved his performance as Dr. Norris too. Rather frightening show that was-glad there were two such dedicated doctors acting for the victims!
Have a better day!
June says
Doesn’t it seem to go that way some days Claudia! I’m like you in the planning thing. I try to think of every little detail. I’m sorry things didn’t go as planned today though.
sending hugs…
Nancy Blue Moon says
Unbelievable..after all of this waiting and preparing..Glad to hear Don’s good news though..we do enjoy that show so we will be watching when the time comes..Good luck my dears..
Chris k in Wisconsin says
OH, Claudia!! As I was reading your post, I thought….. Oh, how I hope they get it right and don’t bring the wrong size. I have heard this happen to a couple of friends. No one seems to look beyond the word “King” on the packaging to be certain, and it has been wrong both times I knew of someone ordering a Cali King. I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the right one, and hope that THEY will move the Queen mattress, etc. back upstairs for you if there IS to be a wait. How disappointing.
The ad at the top is truly not that bad at all,,,, esp. if it is worth it!!
Hope you get good news quickly and that you are able to share it with us!!!!

Hi Claudia, congrats to Don on his new role. I didn’t notice the ad .As for the mattress I know exactly what you mean. Normally we go away for Christmas and New Year, but my DH had an operation on his arm and couldn’t drive for severel weeks, (I’m disabled and not allowed to drive) which made food shopping difficult as we live in a tiny village, so I ordered (on line) several luxury hampers of meat and other goodies. We realised our freezer would not be big enough to hold it all. so we invested in a much bigger freezer…..which arrived on time. The hampers which were due to arrive on Dec 23rd. Didn’t turn up until Dec 28th Luckily the crates of wine ordered arrived in time, so we still had a jolly Christmas, and a wonderful mealat our local pub! lol. Blessings Lesley UK
Ranee says
Shoot for a discount for your inconvenience – i’s the least they can do after botching your order. I hope you still get delivery yet today of the correct bed. On a different and more pleasant note, I love Elementary and will be looking for Don. You are in my thoughts and sending an extra prayer your way.
Karen says
Argh! Bummer. So sorry especially with Don leaving so soon.
Also didnt notice the ad. Had to go back to see it lol
Janet in Rochester says
The wrong size??? Oy!!! I’d be so mad it’d be difficult to see straight. Hope it leads to a honking price reduction – it certainly should! On to more posititve news – congrats to Don on the TV show and “The Seagull” – he’ll be terrific in both, I’m sure. PS – didn’t notice the ad. Don’t mind ads on blogs anyway. Let’s face it, it’s the American way. Hope you get the CORRECT mattress TODAY! Hang in there.
Olivia says
How sad about the mattress. You and Don do everything right to make this happen smoothly and the delivery company
makes a mistake. I hope they bring the right one today. Your new ads do not bother me in the least. I look at them and
see your insurance bill getting help. Great job on your blog I just love reading it every day.
Missy says
Good place for the ad..Inconspicuous…So sorry about the mattress..So frustrating..
Joy@aVintageGreen says
Over your header is good, doesn’t interfere with you header/post, they are still a unit.
Grrrrr on the mattress wrong size. Hope you update after the supervisor phone talk. Grrrr again.
Good news about Don.

Balisha says
Oh, no….I really feel badly for both of you. After all the preparation and work you have done. Hopefully they will get the right one out right away.Do you have another bed to sleep in without having to bring the other one up?
Janice Murphy says
I didn’t even notice the ad until you mentioned it.
Do me a favor, and slow down, take a few deep breaths, and count to 10. There will be a day where you will laugh at this , I promise. Maybe not today, or tomorrow, but someday.. In fact, years from now when your hair is white, and walking is difficult, you will fantasize about how great it would be to be to turn back the clock and be right back where you are this very moment.
Good luck my friend.
Dawn says
Oh no not the wrong size. What now?
Linda @ A La Carte says
Oh no!!!! I hope you got the correct mattress! What a mess. (Oh yay for Don by the way)
Lorrie says
After all that organizing and work! Quel dommage! Breathe deeply. Thinking of you.
Debbie says
I didn’t even notice the ad. Had to scroll up to check it out after you mentioned it. Have followed the MM (mattress mess) on FB today, how frustrating!
Haworth says
I’m reading all of this, Claudia, knowing the outcome, and it pains me to see your excitement and know that the next day you were crushed with disappointment. But…. at least they are honoring our order and while it won’t be easy to “camp out” in your own home, at least you know the end is in sight. I just hope your poor back isn’t a casualty. That’s exciting news about Don’s role in Elemenary, and in the Chekhov. I hope you won’t be wrestling with a new mattress on your own while he’s away!?
