A Bit of Ennui and Some Music

January 13, 2025 at 9:19 am by Claudia

I haven’t been taking any pictures lately, though I did take this one the other day for my Blythe IG account. I’m always taken by Pru’s expression. Boredom? Ennui?

Yes, the tree is still up and we’re hoping to keep it up until at least Wednesday.

A member of the Blythe community who lives in Altadena, CA lost her beautiful old Craftsman home in the fires. Corinne, a student from my days at Boston University, also lost her home in the same community. It’s absolutely heartbreaking. I can only read about the fires in bits and pieces because it’s just too much to take in. I pray the Santa Anas depart as soon as possible.

We’re due for more frigid weather, apparently, with high winds (again!) on Tuesday through Thursday. But I will not complain. We have heating oil and we’ll be fine.

Don has been doing some recording lately. He deleted his YouTube channel content, but he is posting new recordings on his Bandcamp account. He recently recorded some songs with acoustic guitar accompaniment resulting in a new album titled That’s All I Know.

You can download the songs for free. He’d love it if you gave it a listen.

Here’s the link.

He’s real proud ot it.

Thank goodness, All Creatures Great and Small  has a new season airing on PBS. We watched the first episode last night. Boy, do we need it!

Alright my friends. I’m going to sip my coffee.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday,

Good morning Claudia. We awoke to an 18 deg morning without a heater. Luckily our Mr. Fix It came and did his magic. In the short hour we sat next to our gas fireplace trying to stay warm, we talked about homelessness and also how people stayed warm in the way back when. A sobering conversation. We are very privileged and thankful for what we have.

I was caught in a fire situation long ago. Not a huge fire, but fast enough to have a 20 minute time frame to get in and out of my home. It was nightmarish. Our little town came together and we ended up lucky. The CA fires are so hot and fast and big, I can’t wrap my head around what these people are going through. And the BS from the outside world is simply amazing. I can’t watch anymore either.

Beautiful Pru. She is definitely deep in thought. Sometimes tells me she enjoys the tree as well.

We have had no snow. I told my husband this morning I just want one snowflake…just one. Within 5 minutes we had beautiful dancing snowflakes. An hour of beauty. Mother Nature heard my wish and knew how badly she was needed I guess. My heart feels a bit lighter.

You’re in Colorado, right? And you haven’t had snow yet? Very strange. But we don’t get nearly as much as we used to get.

But I’m so glad you saw some dancing snowflakes.

      Stay safe, Verna.

Yes. We sit in a valley at the western edge of the state. The rest of the state is getting walloped. I guess it’s better to drive 90 miles to see snow than have 10 inches outside my door. Be careful what you wish for right? Have a lovely day!

I know what you mean about watching coverage of the California fires. I feel so sad and helpless … it’s beyond heartbreaking.

Our daytime temps, where I live in Oregon, are in the low-mid 40’s. You and Don try to stay warm!

I actually woke up at 8! Fibro is a crap kind of disease. I was sometimes sleeping up to 16 hours a day. Thankful for mike in cleaning up our big city yard and patio, and he brought in the veggies. Thankful too that his tumor hasn’t grown. I am negative too much and ought to be thankful more. Well, its sunny on our snowy street so that’s great. For the believers, God is good.
I hate politics, but man, such a mess!! So sad for LA, hope it rains for days – soon.
Yeah your dollies looks cute. I received most of what I ordered for my girls for Christmas, but I think I could have made the toque. Our tree is still up. Our house is a bit antiquey, a bit I’d modern and with a contemporary leather couch that doesn’t work at all. But we can’t afford a new couch. Too bad.
I visited dad last night. He hasn’t been feeling well so Roger drove here again from the BC mountains in the snow. He’s a great bro.
I took a shower yesterday and my hair dried in ringlets. I wish I knew how that happened. It’s been growing.
I listened to one of your husband’s songs recently. He has a wonderful voice. You too are really awesome!!
    It’s 10:30 and I haven’t started my day. Gosh

Thanks for sharing Don’s music. Love listening to his music. Stay warm. We had a huge snow last week – 9″ in my back yard. Mia loved it. Best snow we’ve had in many years. The kids sure enjoyed it because school was out. Stay warm!

It’s heartbreaking hearing about all the loss in southern California, the people who lost their lives, homes gone, schools, libraries, restaurants, treasures…gone. Sad.

We’re having some strong winds here. I feel for all the first responders battling the fires in the stronger winds that were expected today.

I listened to Don’s song…I really enjoyed it! He has a great voice! Thanks for sharing the link!

Thanks for sharing Don’s link. I’ll check it out. And I hear you on “All Creatures.” That, and “Call the Midwife” have some of the finest writing on television and I’m always shocked they don’t get a mention in the awards. I’m in love with all the characters, so beautifully acted and defined.

You have a deep history with California. While I’m only a degree away from people there who are — so far — still safe, it is simply dreadful in every imaginable way. I’m so very sorry for your friends who have lost all. My heart breaks for them and for all the others.

The big tree is down and I’m reclaiming some of my living room real estate. Probably another down tomorrow. But that woodland tree is staying up as long as I need it!

The temps are going to be quite frigid here as well for the foreseeable future. Any complaints I may have however, seem irrelevant, considering all that the people of Los Angeles are going through. Such devastation. It’s mind-blowing.

I think Pru looks wistful, lost in thought perhaps, about the magic of those Christmas tree lights. Glad to hear you are keeping them up til Wednesday.

Thanks for the link to Don’s songs…much appreciated. Enjoy your evening! ;)

Single digit temps today and tomorrow here. I think we’re already ready to bid January goodbye. Nothing but bad news. I cannot imagine all those people in CA losing everything. I’m concentrating on super cleaning the house and decluttering in readiness for hosting a sort of family reunion for what’s left of my side. My nephew in CA is even flying back for it. Haven’t hosted over a dozen for dinner for a long time and everyone is contributing.

I’ve bookmarked the link to Don’s music and plan to listen during the day tomorrow. And, yes, thank goodness for “All Creatures.”

    Take care,
    Kay

dear Claudia/Don — so very heartbreaking to see fire destruction — absolutely HATE to hear/read re politicians debate whose fault all of this is — I feel there is ALOT of blame to go around BUT that does not help the situation at all — just cannot imagine all the lives lost along with loss of physical possessions — totally unbelieveable AND I feel it is possible to happen anywhere/anytime — all of us are vulnerable — so like you all, am praying continually — for safety,
health, hoping for better days for those sad, stunned Cal families. And for the brave women/men willing to fight the flames of this incredible black mark in our history. stay safe/healthy

It’s hard to fathom what the people in California are going through. So sad. They’d better get the help they need from the government. I listened to a few of your hubby’s songs. He has a nice, rich voice. I love acoustic. Keep warm!

Thanks so much for sharing your Dear One’s music. I made me smile.
This past year has been challenging (stupid cancer). But seeing the lovely Blythe faces and hearing the calm music is helpful. I wouldn’t wish this disease on anyone but so many good things have come from it. Reconnecting with precious old friends and feeling the support from all around me. This year will be better. Thanks again.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
