A Bit of This, A Bit of That

December 29, 2021 at 10:01 am by Claudia

Admittedly, I worked obsessively on the puzzle yesterday, with a long session in the morning and then another one in the afternoon. I finally got the Tower of London in place in the late afternoon and Don said, “Enough! Go sit down. Dinner’s almost ready!” But he understands. He’s the same.

I love, love assembling jigsaw puzzles. I get in a zone, I talk out loud to myself as I fit pieces into place, I feel anxiety fade away. But I must do it all by myself – no help from others. I don’t know how I’d do with any sort of communal jigsaw puzzle. Not too well, I suspect!

I finished the Simenon/Maigret and have started Cloud Cuckoo Land  by Anthony Doerr, who wrote one of my favorite novels ever, All The Light We Cannot See. He’s brilliant.

A package arrived yesterday from Northfield Primitives (in Yorkshire, England.) Of course, I had to photograph this new member of the family. Meet Bertie:

Imogen has been walking him.

Isn’t he adorable? Isn’t she adorable?

We watched a new documentary about Kurt Vonnegut the other evening and it was excellent! If you’re at all interested, it’s on Amazon Prime. There was so much I didn’t know about him. What an amazing and brilliant man he was.

Okay. I’m off to organize and clean up my studio/office space which I said I would do yesterday.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Claudia — such a sweet companion for your girls! I totally understand your ‘obsession’ w/jigsaw puzzles as I suffer w/the same thing, haha! Only one grandgirl understands how I feel when we begin a puzzle and can get ‘lost’ working on it b/c she is the same way !!! so glad you/Don have each other/know each other so well, stay safe/healthy and enjoy the New Year!!

Cute pup! Wish I had a live one. I am anxious to hear your review of Cloud Cuckoo Land. I agree All the Light You Cannot See may be one of my favorite books of all times, but I’m having difficulty with this one. I may need to stop and then revisit.

    cuties!

great puzzle (and putting it together so fast)!

i love jigsaw puzzles and enjoy working them with my family around the holidays (a family tradition).

happy sorting. i grumble about such tasks (when I’d rather be with my family, knitting, etc.), but know it’s worth doing … same with daily chores to maintain things.

    lunch break is soon over.

    stay safe, well!

I still haven’t got to it – tomorrow, instead. I did other chores around the house and finished the puzzle.

      Stay safe!

Bertie is adorable! I’m afraid I’m selfish when doing puzzles; we have relatives in and out of the house all the time and everyone thinks it’s ok to stop and try to find pieces. I hold my tongue!!

I’m so glad that Don has absolutely no interest in doing a puzzle! And we don’t have people in the house – rarely, and I suppose even less now that Omicron is out there!

      Stay safe, Jen.

Puzzles are very addictive. No wonder you wouldn’t get up until Don said it was time to eat.

I had a friend over yesterday who confessed that he has been into puzzles lately just to “survive”. And it made me think of a time I had done just the same.

    Happy end of the year!

Bertie is just the cutest thing ever! Oh, four-star adorable!

And that puzzle is a killer but well done. It must be tremendously fun to do but very demanding! I don’t mind doing puzzles with someone else working on them so long as we don’t do it together! I have a New Yorker one to start after the first of the year!

I finished the Shakespeare and tomorrow I’ll start on the New Yorker puzzle Don gave me for Christmas.

      Thanks so much, Jeanie.

      Stay safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
