A Cool Morning

July 30, 2023 at 9:09 am by Claudia

What’s that? A cool morning? Yes!

The front that went through yesterday brought lots of rain and thunderstorms, but it also carried away the extremely hot and humid weather. This morning is so much cooler and sunny and just plain lovely. Thank goodness. And, breaking news: the week ahead is supposed to be fairly dry.

I have so much clean up to do outside; things I haven’t been able to do because of the weather. Everything is overgrown. I look forward to doing a bit of that today – but not too much. I’m going to try to police myself and not overdo.

In the meantime, I just might grab some porch time.

I finished Fifth Business  yesterday. I love Robertson Davies so much! Instead of going directly into Demon Copperhead, I’m going to go for something light – The Thursday Murder Club.

And I want to tell you about a series we’re watching that we absolutely love: Extraordinary Attorney Woo. It’s on Netflix and it is so well done! It comes from South Korea and the protagonist is a recent graduate from law school with honors who happens to be autistic. She is an extraordinary character, beautifully acted by Park Eun-bin. The series itself is beautifully produced and art directed. It’s funny, moving, magical, and charming. We are completely in love with it and are happy to hear they’re shooting a second season. It’s good for the soul. So nice to see a series dealing with autism in a moving and humorous manner. I’m learning a lot. Z is on the spectrum, so this really resonates with us.

I recommend it highly. Thanks to our friend Adrian for recommending it.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Another series that deals with autism is “Astrid”, also I think on Netflix. It’s French and has to be subtitled unless your French is very very good, and the sensibility is very French so sometimes a bit startling from my perspective, but a good watch.

We (south of you a bit) are also having a blissfully cooler drier day, which is a good thing because there are so many blown down branches etc that some clean up time is essential. With your larger and it sounds like more rural property I wonder what you do with this type of debris – we get a weekly city pick up of “bundled brush” which means a certain amount of handling but it really has to go somewhere!

I love subtitles and have no problem with them. Obviously, the Korean series is also subtitled.

We just make a pile of debris and let it decompose over the years. We have two piles. No one picks up our debris, unfortunately.

      Stay safe, Ceci.

Yay for cooler weather. Us, too. It is so nice to open a few select windows to enjoy the quiet sounds of a Sunday morn….until the lawnmowers start. Grrr. (There’s always one in the neighborhood!)

I’m sure your gardens are a bit overgrown with all the rain you’ve gotten. I’m glad to hear you do not intend to overwork yourself, and that you do intend to get in some much needed porch time.

    Enjoy your day! ;)

Hurray for cooler less humid weather. Take it easy with clean-up.

Had my COVID bi-valent shot Friday afternoon so expected a weekend with high fever. Binging the crown as I lay motionless against my pillows. Everything hurt! Felt so much better last night but woke up to 100.2 so it’s another binge day. No appetite either.

After The Crown, I’ll return to Extraordinary Attorney Woo. I’ve seen two or three of the episodes but with subtitles, I think I need to be fever-free to concentrate.

This cooler, drier weather is glorious. I have so much more energy. I hope you enjoy The Thursday Murder club. It has wonderful characters and great humor. I’ve also read the two sequels, equally as good.

I’m just east of you in western Mass. It seems we often get the same weather as you and today is just lovely.

Another wonderful series about people on the spectrum is As We See It on Amazon Prime. The characters with autism are played by actors with autism. I finished season 1 last night and was looking forward to season 2. Then I read it was canceled. If you have Amazon, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Lucky you with the cool weather! Deep South here and it’s 97 but heat index is 107! I actually cut the grass this morning before it became unbearable. When my gas mower died years ago I bought an Echo battery charged electric mower and I love it. I thought I’d mention it to you in case you need to replace yours in the future. It’s very light weight and I don’t have to deal with gas cans anymore, plus much more environmentally friendly. We are on 1 acre but I have slowly over the years made my beds bigger and bigger so there is less grass to mow. Take care and enjoy your weather! Jen

We have almost 2 acres and most of it is grass, so I think we’ll stay with a gas mower. A lot of our property is difficult to mow. But thanks, Jen.

Glad you have cooler weather, Claudia. We do, too, and it’s wonderful. No AC, no fan on. I don’t mind subtitles, either. You soon get used to them. Enjoy your porch.

Claudia…..today was and is a lovely day. We took a ride out east and sat on the terrace of a dockside restaurant and had a meal….nothing elaborate but it was nice….not hot with a nice breeze. I found myself listening to bits and pieces of the conversations at tables near ours. I suppose I was eavesdropping but after over fifty years of marriage….I know enough to just enjoy the moment and let my husband tackle his lunch. I was hoping for something interesting …never materialized. Thankful for suggesting good tv. series, books, movies and for your wonderful nature photos. Yes, a podcast with your guy would be awesome. In the meantime…I can only speak for myself but I look forward to the day when the orange cheetoh is locked up.

We also have no humidity just in time to get something done in the yard. Since it’s been so hot and time outside limited, the weeds are overwhelming. In five minutes of bending and pulling, I’ve got a garbage can full. But it’s such a great feeling ripping that stuff out by the roots. Best of all is the sitting outside part with the non-humid breezes blowing.

    Take care,
    Kay

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
