A Cricket Named Jiminy

August 19, 2012 at 8:20 am by Claudia

There’s a cricket in the house.

We’ve named him Jiminy.

I saw him scurry under the living room sofa last week. I tried to capture him to put him back outside, where he must surely prefer to be, but he was far too elusive.

I rather like the sound of crickets and I find I don’t mind the sound of one in the house. It’s a comforting sound. At this moment, as I write this, I don’t hear him. Where are you, Jiminy? I miss your music.

Riley is amazing. Yesterday, I lost count at how many times he got up on his own and walked around the living room, kitchen and den. Twenty? More? He’s certainly improved a great deal in the last two days. This morning? Already up and down several times: checking for crumbs on the kitchen floor, going to the water dish, heading toward the kitchen door so that I know he has to go outside, walking over to my chair so he can settle down beside me. He’s a fighter, my Riley. So, we’ll continue to fight right along with him. What a teacher he continues to be.

I’m leaning toward Saturday for our “A Favorite Thing” party, simply because there aren’t a lot of parties/memes on Saturday. Any more thoughts on that one?

Happy Sunday.

Tell Jimmy I can send him some friends that elude me in my basement!

This is such a wonderful post Claudia. Seeing a photo of your cozy cottage…learning of Jiminy in your house ….and finding out Riley is having some good days….it’s all so comforting on a day when I need it. Thank you.

As far as the party, when you start it up, would it be possible for you to explain in detail how to do it? I have never done one – and feel like I’m about the last one in the world to do it – I need some help! :) I like the idea of Saturday.

I am happy that Riley is having better days, that must be a welcome relief from what’s happened before.

A cricket, I had thought we heard them in the trees, but it seems they might be Cicada’s?

The tiny tree frog has taken up residence in the BBQ for now…that’s put a damper on our cooking outside.

I like the sound of crickets and I’m listening to one right now outside my bedroom window. We seem to have a ton of crickets this year. Every time I move a plant outside, one pops out. I’ve never noticed them around before and I’ve lived here 12 years.

Good news about Riley! How’s Don? J

Haven’t had a cricket in the house for awhile. How are the dogs handling it? Knocked my back out again. Must be from that fall earlier in the week. I sleep a lot just to avoid the pain.

Crickets! I used to live in a house that got infested with crickets every year (hundreds of them), and now I have a cricket phobia! lol

That Riley is full of surprises! I’m glad he’s having a good weekend, which must improve it for your. Your place looks very inviting, by the way: I’d better do a few household tasks around here!

Riley has got his second wind! Maybe the cooler weather is making him feel better. Sat sounds good to me for the party. Can I bring something? Oh, not that kind of party! ~ Maureen

Crickets are supposed to bring you good luck, you know? I kind of like their crackedly little sound.

I am so glad about Riley. As long as he continues to fight to improve I would hang right in there with him. Blessings to you- xo Diana

The chirp of a cricket is a lovely thing. :-)

I’m too new here, to know what problems Riley has had… But I certainly wish him well, with recovery, etc.

Our lake house gets tons of crickets. They don’t bother me much except when I’m trying to sleep and one is under my bed. We can all learn something from Riley about perseverance.

The cats here usually hunt any crickets that get into the house … except the ones in the basement, where the cats are not allowed to go.

Sweet Riley! You made my day.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
