Morning moon as seen through the branches of the catalpa tree. The catalpa is always the last to get leaves, but you can see them here. Soon they’ll be huge, heart-shaped beauties.
Indulge me. I saw my lone dove on the birdbath yesterday and took about 40 pictures. No, I won’t post all 40, but here are some of my favorites:
He liked to flick his tail in the water.
And then he took off for some dining on the ground.
You know how I feel about mourning doves. So beautiful. This one did a lot of preening and taking care of business, not in a hurry, just enjoying the time at the bird bath.
By the way, the other day in the pouring rain, and I mean pouring, a catbird was taking a bath in the birdbath. It made me laugh.
Today, no more wind, thank goodness. I’m going to work outside, run some errands and just plain enjoy a day without rain and wind.
Happy Tuesday.
Awwww…lovely dove. We don’t seem to have doves at the lake and I miss their cooing. But, from where I sit at the computer, I can see a nest being built by a robin—or robins. Hard to tell at this point. I question the choice of nest site. though. It sits atop a column that holds up a pergola, now strewn with bare threads of wisteria and drying seed pods from last year. Soon it will all be covered with leafy vines. I hope it doesn’t make for a difficult flight path into the nest. But right now it’s fun to watch the construction process.
Fingers crossed that access to the nest stays open. I’ve seen birds flying behind my climbing hydrangea, so I suspect a nest is there. And the brown thrashers are flying into the wild roses outside the kitchen window – also a nest, I think.
My daughter sent me a photo she took of a barn owl sitting on its nest. She sorted it high up on a column of a building on campus. I’ll send you the photo via email. Enjoy you day…it sounds similar to what I have planned.

How wonderful! I love owls.
The pictures of that single dove captures their peaceful and calming presence. they truly demonstrate that ultimate beauty can be quite simple . Watching them sets the world to rights. Taking care of our home, especially outside work, always seems to be a way of setting something right in our little home patch. A helpful way to spend time when our country seems out of control and we feel helpless to stop the wrongs. Enjoy your beautiful home patch! Dianne
Some peace in the midst of insanity, Dianne.
Oh…the lone mourning dove….so serene, peaceful…just tending to life. That’s as it should be for all. I went to a favorite nursery yesterday…I succumbed to the temptation of two beautiful hanging baskets. How could I not resist? It is to be hot and humid here today…85. Good day to lay low. Enjoy your day! ;)
Lay low. I have to buy some baskets, but I haven’t decided what to buy!
That’s the real problem…I was overwhelmed by the selection. Good luck! ;)
Oh, I know! I’m cheap, however, so I go for something that will last all summer. Not so easy to find!
Isn’t it wonderful to have birdie friends living so close by! In two weeks I begin my “Fridays off” schedule for June & July, sometimes even into Aug. Friday mornings relaxing on the patio in the back garden, reading, crafting, or just contemplating life. This is the third summer I’ve done this (I work for nice people). So far we have chickadee, robin and house wren nests all around and I so look forward to hearing them all serenading me on an early summer’s morning.
It is. I love my birds. Friday Off sounds like a very civilized thing to do, Kay!
Oh, that’s so nice that you finally have a day without wind and rain; enjoy it!!
Just a little breeze later in the day.
Doves are the sweetest birds. xo Laura
They are terribly sweet. I think they’re my favorite bird. He was back at the birdbath this morning.
I just love your doves, dear Claudia..they actually seem to pose for you.
How cool and sweet is that?
Very.
Have a beautiful day,
love, Katheryn
They move slowly, take their time, stand in one place for a while, so getting photos is much easier than with other birds.
I love watching the doves. I have seen a catbird on my block. They are fun to watch. That morning moon is something else. I looked for it this morning but could not find it. Thanks for sharing the photos. Enjoy the day.

Catbirds LOVE taking a bath. They’re known for it. This guy was having the greatest time, bathing in the rain!
Those doves nest in the craziest places! We have nests of Robins, Sparrows, several Wrens, and some Blue Jays in the yard. The sparrows are already feeding their first batch. They certainly are noisy little things. Also, yesterday I had a Grosbeak at the feeders and this morning a Bluebird!!!! Such a fun time of year! The Orioles came back last week, but I still haven’t seen a Hummer.
Did some plant shopping today which was fun. Hope you are having a terrific Tuesday!
For some reason, we only have bluebirds around here in the winter! I don’t know why. I’ve researched it and can’t come up with an answer.
I’ve had some doves eating under the bird feeders but haven’t seen them in the bird bath. So many great photos! Glad you are having a good day. We are getting hot here in GA!! Hugs!
It’s getting hot here, too! 89 today!
I love my birds, too! My goal has been to get some hummingbirds but so far, no luck. They are definitely here because so many talk about them on FB. Keep doing everything I’m told but thinking they just don’t like me. It’s been so nice here for several days & I’ve been working in the yard. This is only my 2nd summer in this house & the yard was nice but few plantings & no garden. Slowly I’m getting there. It’s a pleasure to turn the tv off & escape. Enjoy your nice weather!
I only see hummingbirds a couple of times a summer – I’m sure they’re there, but they are so quick that I often miss them.
Turning off the tv and escaping to the garden is just what we need right now!
Such a pretty dove. I hope he finds a love.
Thanks for sharing your garden and all the goings on there.
Ciao!
Monica
He’s been without one for two years now. I hear him calling but no mate. Makes me sad.
Once I saw two pairs of robins come down to our birdbath. The males stood guard while the females bathed and then spread their wings out in the sun to dry. then the males had their turn while the females went up on the fence out of predator reach. Loved watching that.
Isn’t that wonderful? Watching birds is fascinating!
