A Dud

January 26, 2023 at 8:57 am by Claudia

Well.

This is what we saw during the supposed ‘big storm.’

Maybe a 1/4 inch more fell after I took this picture.

This is what we have this morning:

It morphed into rain. By the time we were ready to go to bed, the only place I saw snow was on my car.

Very disappointing. I stressed over what day to go to rehearsal for two days. I wanted to go yesterday. Darko wanted me to go yesterday. I poured over every weather forecast. Don and I talked about it several times. On Monday night, I was sure I would go Wednesday. By Tuesday morning, after reading yet another update on the forecast, I made the decision to go that day because I was worried that driving conditions would be too dangerous on Wednesday. That didn’t happen.

Also, Don and I were looking forward to an old-fashioned snow storm.

This January has been abnormally warm. What will February bring? The same? We live in the northeast, for heaven’s sake!

Sigh.

For one brief moment in the morning, there was enough evidence of snow for me to take a picture.

Imogen in the snow.

At least there was apple pie in the afternoon.

I don’t see any possibility of snow on the horizon. Maybe some snow showers, but that’s about it.

Boo!

I’m in that stage where I know my current job is finished and that always brings a ‘down’ feeling. The fact is, I feel more alive when I’m working – even with all the travel hassles. I love my work and I love helping actors be the best they can be. Don almost always comments that I look ‘really good’ (of course, I have makeup on, so there’s that) and that work agrees with me. Transitioning is hard. They present the show to producers, etc., on Friday.

But I’m grateful for the work and I’m ready for whatever comes next.

War and Peace  continues. We’ve now started Part II.  And I’m really enjoying The Dictionary of Lost Words  by Pip Williams. Hey, before I forget, if you’re a Deborah Crombie fan, her new book – A Killing of Innocents –  comes out on February 7th! With Crombie, we always have to wait a long time between books, but the wait is worth it.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

We are getting a bit of snow each day this week but not too much at once so it has been beautiful and not too scary. My grandchildren are supposed to come out on Saturday to go sledding on a small hill nearby. Should be fun. It has been a mild winter for Illinois so it is nice to have a little snow fun for a few days…
    Stay safe and cozy, Claudia!

I put A Killing of Innocents on request at the library yesterday. Fingers crossed that they’ll get a copy. In the meantime I’m reading an Elly Griffiths—Postscript Murders— that’s a relatively new series for her. It’s about DS Harbinder Kaur (“Best Gay Sikh Woman Detective in West Sussex”). Okay. I’ve needed a new series since I’ve finished all of her Ruth Galloway and Magic Men books.

I resered it, too, though I wish I’d done it earlier. Forgot about the book coming out. Anyway, there are maybe 10 copies and I’m 22nd in line.

      Stay safe, Shanna.

I am also in a slump….Cannot get my creative juices flowing. Spent most of yesterday cleaning up my desk and making orderly piles ….only to rubber band them and stash them in a big plastic bin. So much for the Marie Kondo rule of creating order out of chaos. We got so much rain that my car actually looks clean. I find that when I am in this mood….I need to get out and take a drive somewhere and take a walk. I am with you…love the country but need the stimulation of the city. I will end up in a small town nearby…stop in for some coffee and browse some of the shops. I need the excercise . That is the plan…..

Liked the snow photo. … are you going to start painting again?

I’m not really in a slump, just feeling a little down. But I empathize with you, Maria. Good idea to get out and see the world with fresh eyes.

I’m not motivated to paint at the moment.

      Stay safe.

Just took a closer look at the photo. How cute and clever…..the footprints. Really….do a storybook ….photos and comments of your girls. It would be charming. Just a thought.

The no-show snow must have been very disappointing but Imogene looks like a little red cardinal. Love her footprint in the snow. And her cute hat matches the colour of her eyes. That transition period between jobs must be difficult. I think your secret is that you enjoy both worlds so much. Hugs, Elaine

While you aren’t getting snow…we are getting nuisance snow. The inch a day variety, that demands shoveling or sweeping. We never thought about snow removal before we bought our home 39 years ago. Living on a corner…double the sidewalk…it’s been a chore. But, I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

I’m sure there is a letdown for you after working. I’m sure the weather doesn’t help either. It’s downright depressing. But, I do love that pic of Imogen. She looks ready to take on the day, with that pretty red coat and that snazzy hat. Enjoy your day! ;)

Donnamae, I’ve been worrying about Chris. I just checked and she hasn’t left a comment since 11/23. I don’t know if you correspond with her other than on this blog. I’m going to write her and check in. But if you know anything, can you let me know?

      Thanks so much.

      Stay safe.

          Thanks, Donnamae.

Imogen’s looking good! We got about two or three inches, not the six predicted. And it’s in the 30s today so melting. Still looks pretty but not for long.

I hope new good work comes along soon! I know that let down feeling. But it sounds good, all that’s going on these past months. More will be around the corner, I hope!

we seem to get about half of whatever precipitation is forecasted. sometimes that’s good and sometimes it’s a bummer. same for you?

hope you get some pretty snow soon … a manageable amount. :)

i like the comparison photos and especially imogen’s style and the shed.

i hope you and don get more job opportunities soon and can take your pick. and that in the meantime you enjoy good books and easy days and apple pie. :)

cold here so there’s still snow on the ground (good, beautiful). icy spots on sidewalks and parking lots not good or beautiful. more snow might come tomorrow night and saturday and i’d be glad … i like snow much better in january and february than march or april!

lots to do tomorrow so will close for now with hugs and prayers for you all. stay safe.
    goodnight!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
