A Favorite Thing #11

November 9, 2012 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

Welcome, friends, to A Favorite Thing #11. I hope you’ve had a good week  – it’s certainly been an exciting one. As I write this 3 guys are down in my basement putting in a new boiler/furnace. The smell of solvents is so bad I had to take a walk outside for a while. So, though we are heating our home with portable heaters, we’ve had to resort to opening the windows, which sort of cancels out the heat, don’t you think?

Let’s look at some of last week’s highlights:

Brenda, of Cozy Little House, shared her new Strutting Rooster drawing. Brenda has a barnyard theme going on her mantel and this $6 find added another fun layer. Very nice, Brenda!

Pat, of Corn in my Coffee Pot, shared the Green Monster – her beloved computer, now all spiffily upgraded by her computer whiz brother. Same outside, all new inside. Don’t you love that green color?

Melanie, of Comfy House, shared her 3 babies with us – her rescued cats. Zippo arrived first and a pregnant Clementine arrived years later. Both of them showed up on their doorstep. Monkey was one of Clementine’s kittens. Aren’t they adorable?

Thanks so much for sharing your favorite things each week.

This week, my favorite thing is Baseball. Perhaps it’s because I’m in mourning now that the baseball season is over. I didn’t really fall in love with baseball until I was married, though I had attended some games in the past. When Don and I were living in San Diego, we started to watch the San Diego Padres. The ballpark was fairly close to our house so we went to see some games. Soon we were hooked. After we moved to the East Coast, we became Boston Red Sox fans. (I think I initiated that since I had lived and worked in Boston for several years.) We subscribed to MLB Extra Innings so that we wouldn’t miss a game. Through it all, we’ve also cheered for the Detroit Tigers (my hometown) the San Francisco Giants, the Rays and even the Mets. But never the Yankees! (Although we did go to a Yankees game in the old Yankee Stadium and had a great time.) Last year, for Don’s big birthday, I gave him tickets to a Red Sox/Yankees game at Fenway Park and we spent a wonderful day in Boston.

I miss you, baseball. I can’t wait for Spring Training. What the heck am I going to watch on television in the meantime?

Now it’s your turn! Share a favorite thing with us. By the way, some of you have asked about the red X that appears on your photo. It’s there so that you can delete your entry if you need to for some reason. It eliminates you having to contact me to edit your entry.

You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.

One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do. It’s also nice if you leave a comment here, as well.

I’ll be happy to coach you on how to endure the grief that develops when your favorite baseball team loses. I am an expert of sorts. My favorite team is the Chicago Cubs. They have not won the series in my lifetime. In fact I don’t believe that they have won the series since the Ottoman Empire fell. I am however, hopeful each spring and Wrigley Field is my Mecca. Thanks for hosting one of my favorite parties!

    Big Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

Hope you get your heat going soon, as really cold temps are not far behind – I don’t like cold. Love the pic of the furbabies. I miss having a kitty or two, but allergies took over. :/
I joined in with one of my favorites – the colors of Fall.
Thanks for hosting again this week – you are appreciated. Enjoy your weekend.

I hope someday I can get into sports. What’s wrong with me? It just doesn’t grab my attention. I see how my husband enjoys all sports and it makes me happy to see him happy. I do love your photo! Your photography is amazing. Thanks for hosting and have a great weekend!

I always followed Blue Jay games but got away from it years ago. But I have to say I am lovin’ that egg cup. :)
Thanks for hosting the party, Claudia. I’m off to visit some blogs. Have a great weekend. Hugs to Scout.

Thanks Claudia for hi-lighting my BIONIC computer! I’m really loving it.
I also, was wondering the other day– what would I watch now on TV now that baseball season is over…and then my son gave that KINDLE! Now…I think it was you I admitted to, when I said…I like to hold a book in my hand to read. But, I must say…this little gadget has been fun! So I am glad to have it now.

Love your baseball and YOUR LOVE FOR THE GAME!

Hope the furnace was fixed, if not I wonder if the bed comes back downstairs with two heaters in the room. We used to put blankets over the doorways and close off everything we could and bring all the mattresses down and heat with the fireplace. Ouch, a memory I would rather not remember. Cold winter is darn cold.

Thanks for hosting. Love love love joining in.

Hi Claudia! I lost you thru blogger for a while! Good to see you here! Love your share and baseball comments! My dad was a lifelong Yankees fan and he once caught behind the plate while Babe Ruth was up to bat! Way before I was born, my dad played semi pro ball so all of us love the sport! My mother would go into baseball withdrawal and sit with the remote in her hands searching for a game! She loved it as much as my dad! We have the Rockies and they are usually in the bottom of the barrel but we still love our home team! Your story today made me smile! Thank you and enjoy the weekend!

    Hi Claudia

Week 11?! How did I miss 10 weeks worth? Hmmm I need to pay attention:)

You ball game love reminds me of my Nan – she loved the Pirates and always had a radio on with the game when she couldn’t get to a tv.

    Have a great weekend!

    Hi Claudia,
We never realize just how comforting it is to be warm until the power goes off or our furnace breaks. I’m glad you were able to get it replaced. You’ll be toasty all winter.
I love each one of the blogs you have featured. Brenda’s blog is one of my very favorites and has been for a long time. She has such a knack of making a house a home with all her country touches. Lime green computers and a trio of darling felines….I’d say they fall in the category of “favorite things”, too!
I hope you have a warm and wonderful weekend, my friend.
    Blessings,
    Carolynn

Nice to hear you are a fellow baseball fan! I miss it already too– about the only thing I watch on TV. I’m a diehard Cubs fan– was born one and will die one. Susan and Bentley will understand that!! Thanks for hosting again!

Hey Claudia. This is my first time to join in. I don’t like big linky parties where it is overwhelming to get through the list of entries. This one is just right and I am currently making my way over to visit every participant. My kids both played little league for about 10 years. I was never a sports fan but loved being involved and watching while they played. Of course, I’m pretty glad they both decided to “retire” too. Now I’m not running to the ballfield during the week and on weekends. I finally have “me” time. Best wishes, Tammy

I know what you mean about being sad when your sport season is over, Claudia. I only follow one sport, Indycar racing (not Nascar!) and can’t believe when the short season they have is over. I don’t care for any other sport, so I too feel there is nothing to watch on TV after Indycar is over.

Thanks for hosting, my chilly Hostess with the mostest! I just found Brenda’s blog through you… love her farmhouse thing she’s got going on! I can’t say I get the baseball thing… not one bit. But I do get the sweet little egg cup it’s perched in! Hope you’re all warm and toasty again! :)

So Claudia, are your feet finally warming up? It’s been a trying and cold week I bet.

Yes many of the customer service reps live in India, or abroad, ask next time you speak to one, you will be surprised.

    Hi Claudia,
Although I don’t watch baseball, I loved playing it in high school and in a community team after I was married. I was the catcher. Such fun! Wow, was that ever a blast from the past. I bet I couldn’t even throw a ball now : )
Thank you so much for reminding me of my past life!
    sending hugs…

I guess you’re using kerosene heaters? We have one for emergencies since we’re prone to ice storms in north Georgia. I don’t watch baseball except for when the NY teams are in the World Series – so I don’t watch baseball :)

No, we used the kind you can plug in – we didn’t lose power, our boiler just stopped working.

My camera is with me all the time to capture the beauty that is all around. Amazing how that beauty takes so many forms. Hopefully, my eyes are always open so I don’t miss it.

I’m sorry I haven’t been able to participate over the last few weeks, Claudia, but I do hope to do so again soon. I love your baseball-in-the-eggcup photo. (And I’m relieved to hear you’re NOT a Yankees fan!) I only really began to appreciate baseball and follow the games over the past decade or so. There is something iconic about having a game on the radio out on the porch on a hot summer afternoon. I look forward to looking through the Favorite Thing links people have sent you over the past few weeks.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
