A Favorite Thing #32

April 12, 2013 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

afavoritething

It’s the end of the work week for some of you and that means it’s time for A Favorite Thing! Number 32, to be precise. I hope you’ve all had a good week and are seeing some signs of spring in your neighborhoods. Goodness knows, it’s been a long time coming!

Let’s look at some highlights from last week:

Hoosier 002

Denise, of Second Time Around Finds, showed us her latest find: a Hoosier Cabinet. I’ve always wanted one of these and her cabinet looks particularly nifty. Denise also collects vintage pyrex – doesn’t it look great in her cabinet? She’s a girl after my own heart.

MT BAKER AND SILO

JoAnn of Scene Through My Eyes, shared many different views of one of her favorite things: Mt. Baker. What a glorious mountain! Lucky JoAnn, to have this view close at hand.

Leisa, of Day by Day, shared one of her favorite photographs from her travels. This was taken in a little beach town in Venezuela. Her post is entitled, Beautiful Decay. And it is beautiful.

This week I’m sharing one of our favorite things. I say ‘our’ because Don and I found it when we were looking through a tiny antique shop. We both stopped, stared and promptly fell in love with it. It’s the Bunny Rabbit Cookie Jar on the left. I’m crazy about rabbits. (And sheep. And all animals.) And we’re rather fond of the rabbits that share our property with us. But it was the quirkiness of the design that drew us in: the legs that are handles, the legs at the bottom of the jar, the slightly crazed look in the bunny’s eyes, almost as if to say “How did I get turned into a cookie jar??” And then there’s the bow tie, the polka dots and the wonderful colors.

rabbitcookiejar2

I’ve never seen another one like this. By the way, I didn’t take a picture of the back, but there’s a cute little cotton tail back there. The antique dealer agreed with us that this particular piece might be English in origin. It just has that look to it. But, alas, there are no markings, so we can’t be sure.

Now it’s your turn!

You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.

One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do. It’s also nice if you leave a comment here, as well.

Have fun!

Hi Claudia, thanks for hosting. I am home this week and insured my old blue truck and went fence post searching, ok in my area to gather cut trees along the road allowances. I love working outside and then rebuilding fences. The deer love my plants and its an ongoing job making fences to keep them out.

    Hi Claudia,

My favourite thing this week is a place where I am dreaming of visiting. Mousehold Heath, near Norwich, England is a nature reserve and woodland full of history and haunting beauty!

Thanks for hosting and hoping you have a sunny spring weekend!

That cookie jar is very unique and adorable. I started visiting some of the participants this week and on one, my comment wouldn’t post because of an internal error — seems my country is banned because of a high amount of spam. Ha! Oh well! Hope you are having a good day. Tammy

Aww your bunny rabbit cookie jar is delightful. I smiled when you said you love rabbits – as that’s one thing I’ve learnt about you Claudia, you LOVE all animals!!!
Thank you for hosting “A Favorite Thing” this week – I’m sure you would much rather be spending that precious time with Don hearing all about Prague! What an opportunity he had.
Enjoy your week catching up together.

Love the bunny cookie jar – it’s so you!!!

Sorry, couldn’t make it today – have my photo challenge post up as I am participating in the fun (and educational) get together at Donna’s. This will be a monthly affair so please forgive me when I’m missing from a Favorite Thing. Will be back next weekend though!

Worked in the garden all day, very tired, but off to local theatre tonight – The Importance of Being Earnest! Seen it several times over the years – usually good fun – and at least I get to sit down and do nothing else!

    Hugs – happy weekend,
    Mary

    HI Claudia!
I just love that little cookie jar. I am so interested in pottery lately. I had to *google it. I found a link to one in the images that looks amazingly like yours the colors may be a tad bit different. It was an etsy link…and it is sold already.
Anyway…she said it was made in JAPAN. I’m including the link. You might decide to inquire and see if she has any more information on it. If you’re interested.
    here is the link:

…and if you don’t, no biggie!
    It is adorable.
Do you keep cookies in it?
I just have to know…or maybe treats for Scout. Or bobbins of thread?

    enjoy!

What a treasure! I’m so glad it found a home with two people who love it and keep it out to enjoy every day.

The blue door above makes me want to put some French blue paint on the old smokehouse door. It would probably take a few years to weather it so beautifully.

I love your bunny jar, Claudia and Second Time Around was definitely my favourite from last week. I’ve been looking at hoosier cabinets online all week and wishing my kitchen was big enough. My sister Connie has an oak one but her decorating style could never be called cottagey, quirky or retro. (My nice way of saying its charm is wasted on her!) J

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
