Hello everyone and welcome to A Favorite Thing #39. It’s been a crazy week weather-wise: one day cool and rainy, the next in the nineties and humid. Some of you are dealing with tornados. And it’s only May!
I just have to note that tomorrow is my parents’ 67th Wedding Anniversary. Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!
Let’s look at some highlights from last week:
Karen, from My Little Home and Garden spotlighted May’s flower, the lovely Lily of the Valley. It’s always been a favorite of mine, as well; such a delicate, pretty flower. And Karen, I remember that perfume! It was a favorite of many of my mom’s friends.
Julie, of Julie’s Little House, shared her favorite thing – her new kitten, Eilish. Oh goodness. Look at that adorable little ball of fur! I would find it very hard to resist that face. Congratulations, Julie!
Lynda of The Auld Grey Mare, shared this recipe for Almond Flour Coconut Waffles. My mouth is watering as I type this and gaze upon her photo. They sound delicious. Thanks, Lynda.
This week my favorite thing is an essential. It helps to make this blog possible. It is never far from my side. It has enlarged my world and the way I view it. It’s my camera.
When I started this blog, I had a tiny Canon point-and-shoot. Then, a few years later, I graduated to a Canon Bridge Camera – sort of the top of the line in that category – and I loved it. I wasn’t ready at the time for a camera that would take different lenses. I still have that camera. But as the blog grew, my photography skills grew and I found myself wanting one of the Canon Rebel line of cameras, DSLRs that are very user-friendly.
Finally, after a few years of dreaming and hoping, we managed to get enough money together to buy one for my Christmas present. I still have a lot to learn, but boy, do I love it! Now I want a telescopic lens. And a macro lens. But for now, I’m content with the two lenses I have and the joy of using my Canon Rebel T3i. It is, along with my laptop, one of the tools that I consider an absolute essential.
Now, it’s your turn!
You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.
One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do. It’s also nice if you leave a comment here, as well.
Have fun!

I am still working with a point and shoot and I am soooo ready for something more advanced. You have always taken such beautiful photos and they will be even better now. Thanks for hosting.

Happy Anniversary to your mama and papa! That’s sooooo wonderful :) I am learning to love my canon rebel. I feel like I’m never gonna get over the learning curve, but I’m getting better. The kids bought me a new lens for Christmas, and I feel like I’m doing better with it now.
Thanks for hosting each week. I’ve found some wonderful new ladies to follow here :)

So happy you got that new camera, Claudia. I was tempted to get one too, but am still hesitant because of carrying the other lenses around. But I do love what they can do, so who knows…

Every one of your features is a favourite thing of mine! Having finally been able to upgrade my camera, I understand your love affair with yours.

Hello, Claudia
What a nice surprise to read your post and see my photo; I’m glad you liked the Lily of the Valley and am happy it conjured up some pleasant memories for you. As someone born in May, I’m a bit partial to it.
Happy Anniversary to your parents. I know from your writing that their road is not currently an easy one, but I do hope that each one is able to find some pleasure in their special day.

I never had a good camera until right before… the big DIGITAL CHANGE…my husband and kids gave me a Canon Rebel 35 mm. I had to take the film for developing. But oh man! I took some great pictures with that camera. I still have it…but I’d much rather use the digital point and shoot that I bought at the pawn shop a couple of years back…
I’d love to have a digital 35 mm– (whatever it’s called) I’d really work at being a better photographer then. As it stands… I learn while playing around with what I have.
I know you love your camera…you take great photos too. I can see why it’s a favorite. :)
Not just for blogging…but recording life!

Hi Claudia, thanks for hosting. So many sweet stories of family weddings. I’ve been gardening/building new garden beds and areas all week. Exhausting, fitting it in before my afternoon shifts. I love gardening.

Hi Claudia,
Happy Anniversary to your parents! My gosh, I can’t even imagine that…sixty-seven years, quite an accomplishment! I appreciate you sharing some details on your camera today. I JUST posted on my frustrations I’m having with my Sony Cyber Shot, a point-and-shoot. I’ve had it for 14 years, and although it’s definitely time for an upgrade, it’ll have to wait! In the meantime, trying to be as creative as possible with what I have.
Have a great weekend and thanks for hosting!

I am uploading a story about the cool weather spell and yes we are right back to the heat wave again here as well. In fact, it is not quite six in the morning here and it feels humid and airless like a stifling August kind of morning, not a spring one! :)

Good Morning Claudia,
Yesterday I went to George’s niece’s wedding which was a wonderful day. They have been married for 1 whole day and are at the beginning of their married life.
Whilst your parents have been married for 67 years…. how wonderful. Happy Anniversary to them both.
Best wishes to you,
Daphne

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary to your mom and dad!! 67 years, Wow!
We lived in San Antonio the year of the cicadas. My daughter was born that summer and will be 34 next month. I just remember going outside and listening to them. They were so loud!

Oh I agree Claudia…my camera is one of my favorite things too! I grab it almost every time I leave the house…and if I don’t…I’m sorry. This week I shared my table because I love polk-dots. In fact, my favorite dress of all time was navy with white polka-dots and among all the white dots there was an occasional yellow. I wore that dress so much that it actually got white along some of the edges…and I didn’t care. It was a quality 2-piece from Jones New York and with it’s jewel neck collar fit perfectly. I’m 10lbs heavier now, I doubt that the skirt waist would fit my waist. I never thought that would ever happen. ;) Haha!
What is there about polka-dots that just make a gal happy?
Wishing you An Extraordinary weekend!

Dear Claudia
Wishing your dear parents a very “Happy 67th Wedding Anniversary” – WOW what an achievement that is!!!
1st June is a ‘special’ day in our family too as it is my second granddaughters birthday!
Well I’m so pleased you’ve shared that information on your camera hmm – so that’s how you do it!!
I’ve made a note and the Canon Rebel T3i is on my wish list if I ever scrape up the cash – hopefully one day.
Like you I’ve got interested in photography since starting blogging too and I have a very basic point and shoot Panasonic Lumix at the mo – but it does the job!
Wishing you a happy week, only 12 days until I visit my family in France – I can’t wait!!!
hugs
Shane ♥
