Hello! Can it be possible that we are on our 40th A Favorite Thing? That number sounds so solid, doesn’t it? 40 weeks of this weekly get-together! It sure has been a delight for me to host this gathering of wonderful people. Thank you.
Let’s look at some highlights from last week:
Sheila, of Note Songs, shared this gorgeous dragon tea set that is her mother’s. Isn’t it striking? It’s been a part of Sheila’s life since she was a little girl.
Cindy, of Cottage Instincts, found this piece of McCoy Pottery for – get this – $4.00. Anyone who reads this blog knows that I collect McCoy and I don’t have this piece. Sigh. Lucky Cindy!
Pat, of Corn in My Coffee Pot, shared her newly adopted, adorable dog with us. The post was entitled ‘Drop Off Dogs’ – around her neck of the woods, people find a yard with toys in it and drop dogs off in the dead of night, hoping, I suppose, that someone will fall for the poor dog. Makes me crazy. When I lived in San Diego, people did the same thing but they dropped the dogs off in the canyons. I don’t understand it. Why not take it to a shelter? Or a Veterinary Hospital? Even better, a no-kill shelter? Oh, don’t get me going on this one. I’m just so glad that Pat and her husband were the ones to discover this adorable darling. His name is Buster. He now has a forever home.
This week my favorite things are:
Peonies. Peonies are my absolute favorite flower. What’s not to love? The blooms are lush, the scent is heavenly, and they only bloom for a short time in early summer, thereby keeping their mysterious elusiveness intact. The first week of June is always the bloom time for my peonies. We are getting SO MUCH RAIN, however, that I have to run out and rescue them when I can. Peonies don’t stand up well to heavy downpours.
Now it’s your turn!
You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.
One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do. It’s also nice if you leave a comment here, as well.
Enjoy!

Thanks so much for the feature Claudia :) I’m thinking I might actually develop some of those lilac pics and make a wall collage in my new bathroom :)

Hi Claudia ~ happy Friday! Speaking of drop off dogs, years ago someone dropped off an adorable Pomeranian in our yard. We already had one Yorkie, a male (Bitterman) and knew we could not keep her, so I took her to the pound and told them that I would only give her to them if they could absolutely assure me that she would go to a loving home. They did and I dropped her off and told them to call me as soon as they found a potential home for her. Well they did call and I rushed over to meet a lovely woman who had lost her dog recently and was so happy to find this little Pom. I felt relieved that she was going to a loving home. How and why people do this I will never understand. It breaks my heart to think of all the wonderful dogs who are abused, neglected or abandoned. Shame on them!
Big Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

Congratulations on 40 weeks!! We found an abandoned dog in one of our rent houses and called around and found a no-kill shelter. We had to pay to have it neutered but they took his photo and had the cutest ad on their web site for him. When he was adopted, they had the family that adopted him call us and tell us how much they loved him. Made us feel so good. We knew we couldn’t keep him but it was so great to know that he was in a happy home.
Have a great weekend!
Judy

Dear Claudia
Thank you again for hosting this lovely Saturday party.
This will be my last one for a while as I’m off to France to spend time with my gorgeous three granddaughters!!
Your peonies are divine and such magnificent colors. I can’t grow them where I am as it doesn’t get cold enough – I’m told they thrive in colder climes, so that’s definitely a plus for those who get snow!!
I can tell by your writing you are settled and happy back home once more! Don and Scout will be happy too!
Enjoy your weekend dear Claudia!
See you in August
hugs and love
Shane ♥

Peonies are my favorite right now too. When I lived in NY I had some that were gorgeous, but here in NY I have a massive planting to enjoy. They were the inspiration for the photo I snapped. As for the rains….we got hammer last night and the outsides of my peony stand were laying or almost laying on the grass. Those all got picked and put in a huge vase. Talk about stunning!
Thanks Claudia! Hope your weekend is Extraordinary!

40! Wow! I’ve only participated in a few but it sounds like it’s going well. I would link to my peonies that I bought from Vons last Saturday … but they are store bought ones (and the petals are all fallen from them too) and just not as pretty as yours.

Hi Claudia:
I thought the same thing when I saw your title in my blog roll. “This is Number FORTY, already? Wow!” Time sure flies, doesn’t it? Thanks for sharing your peonies. They’re gorgeous! I’m also glad that your friends decided to keep Buster. They’re wonderful people with big hearts.
I hope you have a great weekend.

Hi Claudia,
The number of posts on peonies this week were only outnumbered by my comments about them! One of my first posts was about peonies and how I miss them so in the Mediterranean, but I can’t be too greedy as we are blessed with an abundance of exotic beauties! Your flowers are a perfect pink and I’m sure precious. Enjoy them!

Thank goodness Buster has a loving home now. Our house has been a “dropping off point” for years. For cats and
dogs. Makes me CRAZY too!!!! I could write an entire page on how crazy it makes me, but will spare everyone.

Hi Claudia, on a brief blogging break but stopping by. Love your choices, especially Buster. He was meant to be with this family, they may not have found him otherwise. But it really is a careless thing to do, just drop them off. Happened to a friend of mine in VA, of course, she kept the dog, too. xo

We recently moved to the mountains where we have 3 acres. It does snow here, but it is also hot in the summer. I wonder if peonies would grow here? Actually, hubs is outside again this weekend building a “you rabbits stay out” fence. I think we moved to a rabbit, squirrel, and gopher farm! I have always loved your blog – and now that summer vacation is here, I have more time to blog. It will be fun to spend time here again.

Oh, the color of those peonies! Like a raspberry sherbet! I thought that McCoy vase was one of yours until I read it. I know you felt it would be right at home on your shelf, Claudia. And oh, sweet Buster. Thank God he has a good home now. I’m like you in that I can hardly stand to think about it. Don’t you wish you could just gather them all up safely and adopt them out to the best families to match them? One of the sweetest dogs we ever had was a wiry little brown terrier that was in the parking lot at our kids’ school. One look at the pitiful little thing and our son threw his books in the car and went to it and picked it up and got in the car with it. That little sweetheart, Pupalena, rewarded us with so much affection. They’re just waiting for us to take them, folks, give them a bath, feed them, visit the vet (it has to be done), and love them like they’re the dog we’ve been waiting all our lives for.

Hi Claudia–
Just getting to the pc today…and saw that you featured my little “Buster”… thank you! We’ve had him two weeks… and we love him so much! He is definitely a keeper. His leg is better and he’s no longer skipping…but putting full weight on it and running and jumping like a healthy little pup! He’s still learning the rules… but we’re having tons of fun with him.
Thanks again for featuring him and Thanks everyone else for your sweet comments on our lil’ Buster. :)
