A Favorite Thing #44

July 5, 2013 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

afavoritething

Welcome to week number 44 of A Favorite Thing. I’m so glad you’re here.

Before we move on to highlights from last week, I want to let you know that I will be taking next week off. I have two long days of work in Manhattan on Saturday and Sunday, which will involve about a 12 to 13 hour day both days. I just won’t have the time to prepare the post and/or visit you. So we’ll take next week off and resume again on July 20th. Thanks!

Let’s look at some highlights from last week:

peonie2

Chy from Our Little House in the Big Woods, shared her peony buds with us. Chy lives in Canada and her peonies are late to bloom this year. She knows how much I love peonies! Thank you, Chy, for giving me another glimpse of these beauties.

Blog Orchid 3 01

Daphne, of Ivy, Phyllis and Me, shared her beautiful orchids with us. Not only that, she also gave some great tips for growing them. I love orchids and I just might try my hand at growing them. Thanks, Daphne!

moms blackberry pie

And finally, Michelle of The Bashful Nest shared this incredibly tasty looking pie with us. It’s Blackberry Crumb Pie, made by a bakery in her town called Mom’s Apple Pie. Isn’t that the best name for a bakery? I am a certified pie lover – I’ll always go for a pie instead of cake. I would like a piece, Michelle. Pretty please?

This week I am highlighting one of my favorite things in the world. In fact, I have it every day. Like clockwork.

peets

I love coffee. I love this coffee – Peet’s French Roast. It’s the only coffee I drink. If I can’t get it already ground, I buy the whole beans and grind it right there in the grocery store. I buy a bag of it to take with me on the road. If I’m only going to be gone 2 or 3 days, I measure out the precise amount I will need and put it in a plastic container. 3 scoops. 6 cups. Which really equals about 3 mugs full. I only drink it in the morning, never after 12 noon. If I drink it later in the day, I have trouble sleeping. To me, it’s the best coffee in the world.

Now, it’s your turn.

You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.

One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do. It’s also nice if you leave a comment here, as well.

Enjoy!

I like Peet’s Coffee to but have not yet tried the French Roast. Since I am almost finished with my current bag of beans,
I will give it a try. Thank you for hosting Claudia and have a wonderful weekend.

    Big Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

Hi Claudia, I thought I’d try the Favorite Thing.. my post is about a country 4th of July. I’m just like you with good rich coffee, we get a French roast from Costco that I love – and I only have 1 mug in the morning and don’t drink after noon either. Enjoy your trip! Teresa

Hello Claudia! I do hope you had a lovely long weekend. It’s always a treat to come by and see what’s blooming in your gardens. Though it does cause me to miss the ones I have long-tended and left behind. Though I give it my best shot…this garden is only temporary for me and my heart is not in fussing with it like I normally would. So…I will enjoy yours!
My favorite thing this week is a vintage window that a dear friend gifted me with when she came to visit at Thanksgiving. I have decorated it for several seasons and thoroughly have fun creating something new for it. By Thanksgiving I should have a whole year’s worth of decor for the window. Isn’t that fun?
Hope your time in NY is blessed…

    Hi Claudia,

Although I’m a rookie in the coffee arena, I have to say that after spending 3 months in Toronto and sipping on various blends, here in Europe, I am grateful for a German brand called Jacobs Kronung Flavors, with hazelnut being my favourite. I mix it with the regular aromatic blend, and the result is pure pleasure!

Hope you have a productive week! Don’t forget your java!

I have never heard of that coffee but between all of the sugar and cream I put into coffee I suppose any will do …though I’ do like a milder coffee. I know that Starbucks coffee seems to strong to me…so see? No coffee expert here:)

I am going to go enjoy those peonies..I think I missed them last week. Have a wonderful weekend! :)

I’ve always wished I was a coffee drinker, can’t develop the taste – but yours sounds like it’d be delish. Thanks for hostessing the party, have a great weekend.

I agree with you, Pete’s is the best. And we like it strong, too. My daughter makes it in the French press, and oh my, it’s delightful first thing in the morning! Have fun next week.

I love popping in to see the favorites! I have never had Peet’s coffee-I don’t believe it is available here. I really love a good coffee and I’ll have to look for some when we travel- xo Diana

Hi Claudia, I have been fortunate to be able to spend time working on my yard for a couple of weeks. Never know when the next ‘job’ call will come, hopefully it will be on the Island so I don’t have to fly in and out for work. Hope your days away from home are ok, that Scout will be fine. Thank you for hosting, see you again in 2 weeks (for Fav Fri) but I read your posts every day.

Claudia, my Amanda heads to Peets in Harvard Square or Coolidge Corner at least 5 times a week! As a matter of fact, I got her a Peets gift card for Christmas this past year.

You should definitely get hummingbird feeder. You can hang it high enough that no cats would be able to reach the hummers. Unlike a typical bird feeder where seed ends up getting scattered on the ground (thereby attracting a variety of ground feeding birds and small mammals that could fall prey to cats), there’s nothing to attract wildlife that would be vulnerable to the kitties that roam free.

Hoping to see photos your hummers soon!!! I know your camera will do a MUCH better job of capturing them than mine does!

I’ve had problems with cats and our Chips.

Busy weekend here on the island, so I’m just catching up on blogs tonight. What a treat to open your link to “A Favorite Thing” and see a very lovely peony picture. Took me a moment, a very blonde moment, to realize it was my picture!! Thank you Claudia for making my day. I’ll send a pic or blog the flowers that our daughters have told us did bloom the other day, full & colorful.

One of my treats at the end of a busy weekend is to tune in to see what everyone contributed. Fun to read!! Thanks for doing this each week.

Have a great week. We’ll miss not having AFT next week but I’m sure everyone will be saving a post or two to submit once you’re back to schedule.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
