It’s time for A Favorite Thing, week number 2! Thank so much to everyone who participated last week – I loved reading your posts and hearing your stories. Every week, I will randomly pick a few highlights of the week before. Last week, we saw this darling chair from Carolynn at Chenille Cottage. She’s had it since 1975 and she recently made a new red toile cover for it. I love red. I love toile.
Isn’t it adorable?
Sally Ann Magundy shared a ceramic donkey that belonged to her mother, along with a wonderful photo of her mother, brother and some friends in Tijuana.
Sally’s mother always kept stray buttons in that basket and Sally would play with them as a child.
And Donna, of An Enchanted Cottage, shared the surprise she found when sorting through her late father’s things. He had stopped wearing his wedding band many years before after witnessing someone catch his ring on something and get injured. Much to her surprise, she found her father’s wedding band in a tin box – inscribed with her parents’ initials, the date they got married and the word, love.
Priceless.
This week, my contribution is simple. All of you who read this blog know that we lost our beloved dog, Riley, almost 3 weeks ago. During this time of heartbreak, we are so grateful that we still have our girl, Scout. She’s 13 ½, slowing down a bit, but still feisty as ever. Seeing this face every day keeps me going.
I just took this the other day. How can I cry when I see that smiling face?
Now, it’s time for you to share a favorite thing of yours!
You can link up any time from this evening through Sunday night. Make sure you put in the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come on over, paste the URL info into your link info and there you go! If you have any questions about it, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. (When you copy your post URL into the link, make sure that http:// only appears once, otherwise the link won’t work.) Also, please link back to this blog on your post. That way those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.
One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit other blogs. They are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do.
Have fun everyone!

Love toile too ~ every season I change the valence on the window over the kitchen sink with the seasons from black, to red to green. Can’t get enough of this wonderful fabric. Fun party, Claudia.

Hi Claudia,
Thank you so much for including my post in those you mentioned, so very kind of you, it really tickled me to see it here! I’m trying to think of a good one for this week. :)
I’m so very sorry to hear about your beloved Riley’s passing. We lost our oldest Golden in 2007 and I don’t think I’ll ever get over the loss of our sweet sweet boy, Burley. I’m completely besotted with dogs and I’ve had dogs my whole life but I’d never had a dog before who loved me as much as he did. He always wanted to be at my side and was my constant companion and best pal.
After we had Burley for two or three years (we adopted him from a rescue when he was nearly 8 years old), we adopted a young female from the same rescue, so he could have a pal while we were working. She is now 13 1/2 like your darling Scout. What a precious girl you have, she looks so thrilled to see you at the gate and see what plans you’ve got.
Sending you lots and lots of hugs!
Sally

Hello Claudia,
A blog friend was kind enough to send me a link — she found you and knew your party would be right up my alley, and it is. I love favourite things with a story. So, so sorry to hear about your beloved dog and I am happy to see that you still have a smiling face at your gate to keep you company. Your cottage is lovely… you’ve got my kind of style (any my, but we have good taste, he he.) Love your work on your dollhouse too. I’m looking forward to having a look around. Thanks for hosting this fun party! :)

Hi Claudia,
A Blogger Friend- Linda from A La Carte posted about her FAVORITE THING and it’s such a neat and fun idea!! I’m going to post next week and am already trying to think of which favorite thing I want to post about! So much fun sharing!!

Now that’s a favorite face! You’re absolutely right, Claudia….. when she smiles at you that way, you just can’t help smiling back. Animals are so wise and dear. What a blessing! I hope you have a lovely week ahead and are enjoying some of the same glorious weather we’re getting down here in New England.

My dear sweet friend…
I want you to know how terribly sorry I am about your loss. I know that ache, and I know it well. My pets have always been my children, and I lost my two girls just prior to embarking on my blogging life. It helped, just as I know it will help to have your blogging friends along with that smiley faced Scout greeting you, loving you.
My computer and I have been sick and off the blog circuit, but I happened on this today. I borrowed Mr. Magpie’s IPAD, and while it is difficult to type on this, I still wanted to send my love your way. I hope to get a new computer some and get back to blogging. We’ve just had a lot of house expenses that came first.
In the interim, please know I am thinking of you and sending you warm hugs and tender thoughts across the miles. Also note my change of address.
Love you…
XO,
Sheila

P.S. That should read “soon” and not “some”. The type is so small I have trouble seeing it! Yikes!

So sorry for the loss of your other dog.

Great photo of Scout!
You know it really takes time. People that don’t have pets or love their pets like a family member just don’t understand the grief you feel at the loss of a furry friend. it’s been a year since we lost Maxie and we are just now able to even speak about him to each other and are just now talking about getting another dog. A year later I still cry.
I totally agree about the link party thing. I remember when it was normal to visit everyone that participated and now some of them are so big it’s impossible. That’s why I don’t really join in on a lot of them – they’ve just become so impersonal.

Oh, My goodness, Claudia! I just discovered that you featured my red toile rocking chair. I am deeply humbled. It was a trial and error project. I am a novice at trying my hand at slipcovering. I do love giving old things new life and this chair was certainly ready for a new face.
You are so kind to have chosen me to be one of your highlighted blogs.
Thank you so very much!
Blessings,
Carolynn
