A Favorite Thing Saturday #6

October 5, 2012 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

How can it be week number six of A Favorite Thing! But it is. So let’s look back at some of the contributions of week number five.

Haworth shared Mr. Tyger, a gift to her during a hospital stay. Mr. Tyger is beautiful and formidable and Haworth adorns him in his crown and a ring of holly during the holidays. Late winter brings some decoration in the form of Mardi Gras beads.

Becky is over-the-moon about her new laminate floors. I don’t blame her. After years of carpet, her beautifully decorated home looks even more beautiful, if that’s possible!

And Sarah writes about her Peanut Bird. The Peanut Bird used to belong to her father-in-law – whenever he wanted peanuts, he would go to the pantry and bring the bird out. Years later, it came to live in Sarah’s house and is now proudly displayed on her baker’s rack, bringing back wonderful memories of a beloved father-in-law.

———————————————————————————

This week I want to share another Favorite Thing with you. But do I dare to call him a thing? Oh no!

Meet our beloved Monty. Isn’t he handsome? Monty came to us when we first moved out east. We were living in a small hamlet and often went to another small town on the Hudson River to go antiquing. One shop, an adorable shop, that unfortunately didn’t last very long, had some of these cows on display. Each one was slightly different and I was entranced. So was Don. This guy with that innocent, slightly hang dog look, wormed his way into our hearts and we took him home.

‘Mont’ were the first four letters of the hamlet we lived in, so the name Monty was born.

I ask you, could you resist that face? He usually lives in the den, but I brought him out to the living room where the light was better. He told me he likes this stool and might he please stay here for a while?

Of course.

Now, it’s your turn!

You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.

One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do.

Enjoy and have fun!

I am head over heals for Monty! That is one adorable cow. Thanks for hosting Claudia. Now that my chicken collection has filled the coop, I will be on the lookout for cows next. If David asks me why, I’ll just send him over to your cottage so he can meet Monty. Have a great weekend!

    Big Hugs,

Always a pleasure to join in with Favorite Thing Saturday. This week it is memories of my dear beloved Grandma who was a centre figure in my childhood. Thank you for hosting.

I love my gardening and autumn is a great time for upgrading beds and cleanup but I also have favorite pieces of copper and ceramic that I keep where I can enjoy them. Thanks for hosting.

Yes, Mont has that manly squared jaw that I think makes him all the more appealing…like a sturdy cowboy, if you will. He is Moo-varlous (sorry, couldn’t help that one! ha!) Love the piece he rests his laurels on, too. Very nice.

And my dear, I am blushing over the kind words you wrote about my ol’ house. And thank you for that.
And thank you for your friendship, too. The weather is cooling and I brought out my green scarf today. It is still my favorite one.

    xxo

I love your Monty and I hope to next weekend perhaps join when I get my head together. But I have to say, MY favorite thing that you’ve featured is that Peanut Bird. That just makes my heart melt – what a wonderful thing to have kept and to remember her FIL by. Oh my. Ann

How I love the Fall. It is my favorite season of the year with it’s welcome cooler temperatures, crisp autumn leaves and abundant harvest. I chose to share my visit to the Oregon Coast…where I grew up. It is truly one of my favorite things!
Thank you, Claudia, for hosting all of us!

Monty is lovely. He reminds me of Ferdinand who is Spanish and loved the meadows and flowers more than a fight. Happy weekend to you!

Monty is very cute! Claudia, have you seen the place in Hyde Park with the full size cow, horse, etc. standing outside. I think it’s an auction house. Perfect for the front yard! :)

Great features and I love your mooooving story about Monty. He is a cutie. Hoping I can find some time to peek at all the others. A busy weekend for us; Canadian Thanksgiving and we celebrate Christmas with my parents before they head south for the winter. No bloggy time for me! I will however make time for pumpkin pie(s). :)

I agree with you that the link parties have become so large that it’s impossible to visit all. When I first started linking, I would link to parties of 50 or less. That way, over a few days, I could visit all. Now, I have trouble finding small link parties. Progress, I suppose. :)
    Thanks again, bj

    Claudia,
Thanks for hosting the link party. I’m sure it will grow but some parties are so huge, we never really get a chance to connect with anyone. It’s been quite a summer for both of us. Lot’s of change. I love Monty. He would have found a place in my home because he’s so unique. I love the old stool that he’s perched on. Thanks for popping by my space. Your blog is evolving and looks great! You still provide an intimate cozy space and that’s what I love about you.You talk about things that are near and dear to my heart. Know that I’ve thought about you often this summer and although I didn’t post……..I still visited my favorite blogs.

    xxooo Sandy

Hi Claudia, I came over to sign up for the Favorite Things party but I don’t see the Linky anywhere….not sure why so maybe next week I can do it. Love your cow. To me he has kind of a quizzical look on his face. :) And I loved your story about meeting the blogger living just around the corner from you. I live in the country too so I understand “around the corner”. LOL. Hope to see you next week for the party. I always have a favorite on my blog. xoxo Lynn @thevintagenest

P.S. I totally agree with what you said about people signing up but not visiting at the parties. I have noticed that a lot. Seems people just “link and leave”……. never visiting the other bloggers or thanking the host. Pity because you meet some fabulous bloggers thru the parties. :)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
