Welcome to A Favorite Thing #8 – we’ve now shared two whole months of favorite things. I don’t know about you, but I can go on indefinitely. Let’s look at some highlights from last week:
Susy, of The Feathered Nest, shared some ballet shoes that her friend had embellished for her, along with a delightful story about her own ballet shoes. (I had a choice when I was a kid: dance lessons or piano lessons. I chose piano, but I always wanted to be dancer!)
Still Woods Farmhouse shared the gorgeous vintage automobiles that are part of Cruisin’ the Coast, an amazing event that takes place down on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. (I want a vintage car. Or a vintage truck. In aqua.)
Elaine, of Sunny Simple Life, shared her chickens with us. She described them and all their activities and I’m fascinated. I can see why she loves them so. (I’d be too afraid of predators around here, but I am a wee bit envious. They are beautiful.)

This week I’m sharing something from my childhood with you:
This egg cup was given to me when I was a very young child – no more than 4 – by my godparents, Edith and Nick. In those days, Fannie Farmer candies would come out with an egg cup as part of their Easter line. I had this egg cup for, ahem, some years before I looked at it anew and thought, “Maybe I should collect figural egg cups.”
I started a collection, which must be numbering close to 50 by now, that I love. I have another Fannie Farmer egg cup that I’ll share another time with you. But this one, this is the most special. My godparents are both gone now and I loved them dearly. They lived down the street from us and I spent countless hours at their house. I miss them. And I thank them for everything – especially this darling egg cup.
Now it’s your turn! What do you have to share this week?
You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.
One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do.

Ahhh ~ thanks for featuring my ballet slippers Claudia (: I love your egg cup collection ~ wish I had one because they remind me of my English grandfather. Do you have them all on display?
I stopped in just to link up. We have our nephews for the night and we’re in between pizza and movie. I’ll be back!

Hi Claudia,
I sure enjoyed your post…and, what a sweet treasure your godparents blessed you with as a child. They would be so happy knowing that you still treasure it so many years later. With all the places you have moved to it’s wonderful that you have been able to preserve it.
This is such a beautiful time of year and I look forward to each Autumny post on the many creative blogs that I visit.
Thank you for taking the time to host all of us and for your kind comments, my thoughtful friend.
Blessings,
Carolynn xo

Love the ballet shoes and chicken, you have 50 egg cups, I tried to buy two a couple of weeks ago because I broke my last one I tried about 10 different places and found a place that sold them, these were made in China and I think they must have been made for duck eggs as they were so big.

Morning dear Claudia – just a quickie hello/goodbye – off later today.
Wonder why my link comes up with that red X – seems a weekly thing. Any idea? Am I doing something wrong? Today I had difficulty adding my post URL – it kept wanting to add it automatically, not the correct one for today’s post. Was eventually able to change it though so guess it’s working.
More from Europe’s great cities and seas later hopefully.
Take care dear – Mary X
Claudia says
The red X is only visible to you. It has to do with your entry. It doesn’t show on my page, so no one else sees it. Maybe it gives you the option to delete your link, if you need to re-enter it?
As for the URL, did you copy and paste it? I entered one for someone today and it worked.
Anyway, I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. Have a great trip!

Elaine @ Sunny Simple Life says
Thank you Claudia for the nice feature. I really do love those chickens and some might say too much but how can you not love a pet that gives you fresh eggs in return and turns the compost so you don’t have to. Have a great weekend.

Claudia, that is such a special egg cup, and the memories attached to it are even more special I’m sure. You were so lucky that your grandparents were closeby so you were able to visit them every day. My grand parents lived almost a couple of hours away, but we would go every Sunday for dinner. Have a great weekend :)… Donna
Claudia says
Hi Donna, just wanted to say that the egg cup came from my godparents, who lived down the street. My grandparents lived closer to me than yours did – about an hour away in those days!
Linda says
Hi Claudia, I am enjoying your party so much, and I have found many new (to me) bloggers. My husband loves going to old car shows, so I have learned more than I ever thought I would about old chevrolets and impalas and, well, all of them! I did not know that Fannie Farmer produced those egg cups. I have a few very old china egg cups that I use as tiny vases, and some newer ones that we love to use for eggs. I agree that Elaine’s chickens are fascinating! So plump! Linda
Mary @ Ms Redo says
Your little egg cup is just precious, and I’m dying to see the rest of your collection! Thanks for hostessing the party, I’ve linked the post about our guest room redo, which makes it my favorite room in the house!
Laura says
I love your little egg cup, Claudia. I’m a little late joining in this week, but I’m so happy to be here, My favorite thing this week is finally decorating for Halloween.
Hugs,
Laura

Lynda at Still Woods Farmhouse says
Hi Claudia!
How surprised I was to see Cruisin’ the Coast event featured on your Saturday party! I hope all your readers head on down and visit us next year. Who knows, maybe we can set up a blogger party on the side! Thank you for sharing my link. Love those chickens too! I sent Santa a wish list long ago for a chicken coop and a few long Island Reds to reside at Still Woods! Thanks for the Saturday Party!

Your eggcup is so sweet, Claudia. And it comes with such a lovely history. (Fanny Farmer candies were a favorite in our house and a common gift for my mother and father on special occasions.) I’m sorry I wasn’t able to participate this past week but I look forward to looking over everyone’s favorite things. It’s always so enlightening and the stories that accompany them are so moving. Thank you again for hosting. Take care and have a lovely week ahead.
