A Foggy Saturday

December 28, 2024 at 9:15 am by Claudia

This morning, while Don was sleeping in, I spent some time trying to create a little bokeh with the lights of our tiny little tree in the den. I finally got it. If you don’t already know, you have to have a focal point at a distance from the lights. Focusing on this little tree allowed the tree lights to do their thing.

I will be playing with bokeh and the big tree later today.

Don’s gig was quite far away, so he didn’t get home until after midnight, hence, his sleeping in this morning. He has another gig tonight and, at the last minute, he’s subbing for someone who has Covid tomorrow afternoon. Needless to say, he enjoys it, but all the driving, along with singing for 3 hours is very tiring.

We’re getting freezing rain this morning. It was to start after midnight and I was a bit worried for Don on the drive home, but it didn’t impact his travel at all. Thank goodness!

What else? Not a whole lot. I finished the newest Michael Connelly and returned it to the library. Now, I’m reading Orbital by Samantha Harvey, which won the coveted Booker Prize this year. It’s about 6 astronauts working on the Space Station. So far, it’s quite wonderful. The newest Louise Penny is still on my TBR pile but I don’t feel moved to start it yet. I’ll know when it’s time.

Because of the rain, it’s quite foggy this morning. Actually, there’s more fog than when I first got up. As you know, I quite like it.

For the first time ever, I’m actually putting together a jigsaw puzzle that I already assembled. I’ve been needing something meditative to fill my time. I have donated the vast majority of my finished puzzles to a local senior living facility, but I did hang on to the first Laurence King puzzle I did – The World of Shakespeare. It’s been long enough that it’s almost like doing it for the first time – enough to feel the challenge and that was what I was looking for. Hurrah!

He has two new puzzles that I want to order, budget permitting: The World of Miss Marple and The World of Oscar Wilde. They’ll be perfect for the winter days ahead.

Alright, that’s it for today, my friends.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Good for Don. Being productive and getting paid for it is a real boost at our age. I love that he has a purpose he enjoys.

Well, I learned something today. Did not know a hazy background lighting actually had a name. The last two days we had really heavy fog but it’s gone now probably because the snow is also gone. The air keeps getting warmer and all that snow laying around contributed to dicey driving conditions.

Take care, and thank you again for your moving comment about our little Keeze.

It has to be precisely hazy, though. Not just unfocused. You can see those little light circles on the tree. They’re very defined.

We had an accident just down from our house this morning. The roads were slippery. I’m not sure of the cause, but the car went off the road and hit a tree and the tree caught on fire. Driver was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Fog + slippery roads.

      Stay safe, Kay.

It’s been a very foggy Christmas, today is misty and drizzling. For the two previous Christmases, my brother bought me the Agatha Christie and Poirot jigsaws and this year I received the Laurence King Agatha Christie puzzle book containing crosswords and quizzes.
I’ve been a fan since I was 13 years old and still have paperback copies from that era.

Hope that Don’s gig goes well tonight.

    Happy Saturday

I’m catching up on my blog reading while my son and his family are visiting friends in Chicago. They are staying at my home for the week and will be heading home on Monday. 3 adults and 3 children have really been an adjustment but we have had some fun moments. I usually head up to my room to read when it gets to be too noisy for me. I sound like an old grandma when I type that …but I AM an old grandma! ;)
Sounds so peaceful at your home, Claudia!

We’re having a gray, foggy morning, too. It’ll probably stay this way a good part of the day. Glad that things went well with Don’s gigs, the singing, as well as the driving. I’ve never heard of bokeh before, but it makes sense… very pretty with the lights! Enjoy your book and the puzzle!

I enjoy your bokeh photos and actually learned the term on your blog. Continue to have peaceful days. Other than a large family gathering today, there will be quiet days for me until NY Eve and even then it’s a very low key affair at my house. Yay, I don’t have to go anywhere.

The Laurence King puzzles are quite fun; I have completed the Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes, Fortunately, one of our local libraries has a a few shelves for a puzzle swap – I usual find one that piques my interest. Enjoy the quiet.

Did you know you inspired me to get a library card again this year? I read so many books for the very first time (I’m a fan of reading and re-reading and re-reading my favorite authors/books yet again).

It’s been really foggy here these past few days…warm air over snow. And I like it at first..but it kind of creeps me out after a while if it lasts too long lol. But today…while our snow has all but melted, the sun is trying to make an appearance at last.

I was curious as to whether I could attempt a bokeh pic with my iPhone. So after a quick google search….I attempted it, and it worked. So thanks for the inspiration.

Glad to hear Don’s gig went well, and that he didn’t have to negotiate freezing rain. Hope he got to slept in enough…sounds like he’s going to need to be well rested this weekend.

    Enjoy your day! ;)

It’s been very foggy here in the U.K. for the last few weeks too. I find it’s often the same this time of the year.
We have a free puzzle swap at our local public library and so I don’t have to buy puzzles anymore. I was lucky enough to find the Miss Marple one there recently. I enjoyed it. I started the Sherlock Holmes one yesterday. I do like the Laurence King puzzles, they’re nice and sturdy.

I really like them. I think I’ve done all of them but the 3 most recently released. They’ll be my project this winter.

      Stay safe, Fiona.

I saw both those puzzles when I was in London — they’re terrific and you can’t go wrong with either choice. We had a lot of rain in the overnight. Yesterday was 55 but I think temps are dropping this week. I hope Don doesn’t have too bad a drive today.

I like your bokeh. I’ve never tried that technique (though I may have ended up with it accidentally more than once!). Can’t wait to see what you do with your big tree!

Our temps are rising for the next few days, then we’ll be back to the cold again.

      Thanks so much, Jeanie.

      Stay safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
