I had to grab a photo of something…
Look at that Roseville vase on the top shelf. The really tall one on the right. I purchased it last year because it was a pattern – Columbine – that I didn’t have yet. No one was more shocked than me when I saw how tall it was. I had to scramble to find room for it. I’m still not sure if I’m crazy about it. I mean, I am, but it’s so big! I briefly thought of putting it somewhere else in the house, but it needs to be protected. My husband is a big guy – he has bumped into and broken several pieces of pottery over the years. He now points out ‘danger zones’ to me – places where he knows he might break something while attempting to do something else. I then take steps to remedy the situation.
I’m still laid up, but I feel some improvement. I’m being extra careful but also doing my best to move around during the day, so I stay loose.
It’s sunny today and we’re finally starting a stretch of warmer weather. Hurrah! It will be in the fifties this week and next with a couple of days in the sixties. It feels like we’ve made it through the winter. I see glimmers of spring. I heard the Carolina wren this morning and quickly looked out the window at the birdhouse. He was standing right in front of it, facing out, and singing away. I think he’s telling the world that the trailer has been leased for the season. Oh, that makes me so happy. To be able to sit in my chair and watch this couple ready the nest, feed the babies – heaven!
The other day when we were loading things for recycling, I noticed the robins nest that is nestled in the climbing hydrangea that runs up the front of the shed had tilted so much that it would be hard to fly in and out, so I carefully righted it. Even though the robins are a pain in the tush when they’re nesting there, they’re worth it.
So we’ll watch the snow melt today and tomorrow and say goodbye to winter storms. Never say never, of course, because we have had snow in April, but I’m going to stay positive. I’m getting that little tingle that says ‘You’ve been freed. Spring is almost here.”
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

The weather is warming up here in Illinois too. Like you, I won’t be surprised if it turns cold again but the cold weather certainly makes us appreciate these warming days! Hope your back heals soon!
Claudia says
Sun and some warmth, that’s all I ask.
Stay safe, Ellen.

I’m glad you and Don have come to terms about safe places! He’s wise to know his “trouble zones” and you are wise to find a safe place for beautiful things you want to see hang around for awhile longer. It’s a stunning vase — the kind that calls for gladiolas or sunflowers or tall branches of pussywillow or forsythia. But I suppose those only make it taller!
We’re due for a bit of a warm-up too, and I’m hoping it will last. As you know, we can’t always count on it in our parts of the world but it’s so encouraging to know that at least we are well on our way. I’m so glad the wrens seem to be choosing your “home” for theirs! Happy week and lay low!
Claudia says
I looked at our 14 day forecast and it looks like the fifties and sixties will continue!
Stay safe, Jeanie.

That tall, tall vase is a pretty one. Reminds me of the lakehouse where the columbine was prolific. It self-seeded so well, that it almost became a weed, growing in every crack and between rocks in the walls. I’ll miss it.
So glad that the wrens are back in their sweet little trailer house—don’t know which I enjoy more, the trailer or the birds.
Claudia says
I love columbine, but I’ve never found any on this property. I always mean to plant some, but never get around to it.
Stay safe, Shanna.

I love your Roseville collection, Claudia. For years I’ve admired Roseville but thought it was very pricey for me. Last April I found a small vase (White rose), at an antique show. The kind vendor took the price down to $22 for me and so I bought it. It’s only one year later and I now own 7 pieces, two quite large! I need to slow it down a bit this year. Maybe one or two pieces at the summer antique shows. Yikes!
Enjoy this sort of spring-like day.

It used to be hundreds of dollars. When I was living in San Diego, I really wanted to start collecting it, but I couldn’t afford it. Like everything, it’s price came down when eBay appeared on the scene. We’ve been out east for 20 years, and it’s only been in the past 7 or 8 years that I’ve been able to afford it. You got a great deal on the vase, Judy!
Stay safe.

Very nice photo. I too am a collector, not necessarily Roseville but other sentimental items. I cannot seem to give away things from family, nor can I pass up a dear piece that someone once loved. I have designated a couple charity shops where my things will be welcome someday. I love to see others collections and yours always are beautifully displayed.
Claudia says
Oh, there’s nothing I like more than seeing the things people collect! Isn’t it fascinating?
Stay safe, Sherry.

That’s a good tingle!
I know a little of Roseville, not a lot; have been to a couple of great museum/gallery shows which have featured it, and we’ve discussed before how my husband came by some family pieces; but, gosh, I’ve NEVER seen such a huge piece as yours; it’s really striking; I’m glad you have it. Roseville is very breakable, and it was loved in average households for so many years; so, to have such a terrific large specimen in good shape is quite something, Claudia.
Claudia says
Yes, I have to keep it inside the cabinet which I’m happy to say is tucked away in a safe place in the den.
Stay safe, Vicki.
