Sophie seeing sunlight for the first time in months. She looks rather stunned.
Well, I ventured outside for a bit yesterday to start cleaning up some of the garden – mostly pruning. But I was shocked by how quickly I got tired. My arms felt very weak, as well. That’s why I know I’m not completely over this crud. In some ways, I’m much better, but I clearly cannot rush the recovery process. I saw a post from a friend of ours in California who said that she and her family have had ‘upper respiratory crud’ for weeks.
We are both so sick of this.
But I did get a wee bit of work done. I guess, after I’m finished with the show, I’ll just do a bit every day – not too much, but enough to start to make a dent in the garden clean up. While I was out there, I had the chance to really look around me and I was shocked at how far along new growth is! I’ve missed a lot of it due to work and illness. There are leaves on the hydrangeas, the clematis has grown and filled out without my knowing it, the rose bush is leafed out – and that’s just what I could see from the porch. A sight for sore eyes.
Today, per orders from my husband, I’m taking it easy. I have a two hour drive to NJ on Tuesday and a return trip the next day. I want to make sure I feel fit enough for that journey.
Big news: Yesterday afternoon, around 3 or 4, Don’s cell phone rang. It was Adrian. Oh, what a blessing it was to hear his voice! It’s very weak but he talked about post transplant – or what he can remember of that time. At one point, his brother heard him quoting from Shakespeare. I’m not sure when this occurred in the aftermath of the surgery. He just shared bits of things with us and he didn’t talk long because he was very tired. But we told him we love him and that we are praying for him all the time.
It’s funny; as I heard Don’s phone ring, I had the strongest feeling it was Adrian. Then I heard Don gently say, “Adrian?”
What a blessing that call was.
We’re due for rain, heavy rain, tomorrow. And much colder temperatures.
Just saw two wild turkeys by the kitchen door. Beautiful.
Stay safe.
Happy Sunday.

It’s cold and rainy today but after the past couple of warm days, everything is starting to burst out here too. It is so nice to see. I will have to get out before the weeds take over…
Hope you feel better and have a safe trip this week, Claudia.
Claudia says
Me too. I’m worried about all the weeds!
Stay safe, Ellen.
Elaine in Toronto says
It must have been wonderful to hear Adrian’s voice, Claudia. Hopefully, he’ll grow stronger every day. Your garden is really coming alive. Please rest and take good care so you can handle the driving and overnight stay next week. Sophie does look a little surprised at seeing the sun. Cute in her pretty dress. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Thank you, Elaine.
Stay safe.

What a wonderful surprise to get a call from Adrian. While his voice may be weak, I’ll bet his spirit is strong.
I’ll bet it felt good to start on the garden clean up. A little bit everyday has become my new motto, otherwise it’s a bit overwhelming for me. Not to mention, just getting the muscles back in shape for gardening. Everything popped up out of the ground so quickly, and now it’s going to be colder and we are to get snow tonight into the morning, Ugh. So, Tuesday we’ll be back at it.
In the meantime, we are enjoying all the bird calls…some are totally new to me. There’s a pair of wood ducks that fly in to our neighbors yard and sit in their tree. I had never seen a duck sit in a tree before. Life is always interesting around here. Enjoy your day! ;)
Shanna says
Hahaha, Donnamae! Ducks do sit in trees—I saw one myself at the lakehouse. Of course, nobody believed me. Luckily it happened again when I had witnesses! (Some are still chewing on their hats.)
Donnamae says
Hahaha! I did take a few pictures for the skeptics! ;)
Claudia says
I hope that snow didn’t materialize, Donnamae.
Love the ducks in the tree!
Stay safe.
Donnamae says
Oh…it did. We didn’t get as much as they were thinking, but we have an inch and a half on the deck furniture! ;)
Claudia says
Well, an inch and a half will melt very fast. That’s the good news!
xoxo

Glad you’re catching up a little to the wonder of nature-spring all around you now; also glad your friend continues to get better. Enjoy your Sunday.
Claudia says
Can’t wait to get outside and do some work. Wednesday, for sure!
Stay safe, Vicki.

Claudia, thank you for updating us on Adrian. What wonderful news that Don was able to talk to him! I am continuing to keep him in prayer.
Safe travels as you drive to my home state and back.
Claudia says
We both talked to him – Don put him on speaker.
Stay safe, Denise.
Shanna says
So glad to hear again about Adrian and his progress. Medical miracles do happen! Enjoy your Spring springing. A bit jealous of your lilac buds, though.
Claudia says
This is a true miracle. We’re so grateful that our friend has a new lease on life.
Stay safe, Shanna.

What wonderful news about Adrian!! Every bit of success will be celebrated. I know I felt like the Staff where I was recuperating celebrated with me every time I met a goal. Those folks who are Doctors, Nurses, Nutritionists, Therapists, etc are true angels!!
We had 80’s for 4 days and today are under a Winter Storm Warning for 8-11 inches of the “s” word. Soooo over it!! Our Maple tree is leafing out. Most of my Perennials are pushed through the earth as well. Just crazy.
Hope that yours & Don’s recovery is pushing forward.. There is so much of that crud going around. Strep throat is also in abundance. Tis the season. Take care.
Claudia says
They are angels, indeed.
I sure hope you didn’t get that snow, Chris.
This crud has been awful. We’re definitely coming out of it, but my god, it takes a long time!
Stay safe, Chris.

We’re getting the rain too — and the temp has dropped radically. This morning I was in sandals and capris. Tonight I have on jeans, a sweatshirt and a shawl. And rain. Much more to come. Rick was to leave today for a five-day cycle hike to Bloomington, Indiana, to watch the Little 500 (of Breaking Away fame). Because of the expected rain and temps he will leave Tuesday morning and I’ll drive him to the Indy border with his bike. Rain is in the forecast every day this week. If it doesn’t come all at once, maybe my basement will miss flooding. Fingers are crossed.
You take care. Don is absolutely right, but I don’t think either he or I had to tell you that. Just chill and revel in Adrian’s good news.
Claudia says
Fingers crossed that your basement stays dry. We have a wet basement, so we always get something down there when it rains.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
