A Green Hat

September 29, 2022 at 9:34 am by Claudia

I ran across this yarn when I was decluttering the office and closet and immediately thought of Sophie’s eyes, which have been this color lately. So, I crocheted this little hat for her. It doesn’t match her dress, but I like this dress on her and didn’t want to change it.

A little crocheting keeps me calm.

I’m going to have to go into the city tomorrow or Saturday to watch a run-through of the show. They go into tech rehearsals next week so I won’t be able to see it again until October 9th. That means I have to figure out the Covid protocol – do I need to test myself before I go, how do they want me to submit the test results, etc. And then, of course, I have to figure out the logistics of getting there. The theater is not far from Union Square – actually, I think it’s quite near the Strand Book Store.

I think I’d prefer to go tomorrow so I can get the notes to the actors before they run it again on Saturday. We’ll see.

Meredith and her family are fine. They didn’t lose power. Some branches and a hibiscus are down, but they’re okay. It’s still very windy there. My heart goes out to everyone in the path of this monster hurricane. I never watch the Weather Channel but I was glued to it yesterday. The video of the storm surge was shocking.

Grateful for my family’s safety, but sad for so many Floridians who have lost their homes and businesses.

Realization: I always carry a book with me, especially when commuting to NYC. The Ink Black Heart is so large and unwieldy that I’m going to have to find something else to take along on the bus ride. I don’t want to have to carry a heavy script and a heavy book!

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

I am so glad Meredith and family are ok. Still waiting to hear from my Best Friend and continued prayers for all in the path of this storm. I just saw a trailer for ‘Spoiler Alert’ and it looks wonderful. I love Jim Parsons.
I’m just praying to hear from my friend this morning.

glad that your sister and her boys are safe, didn’t lose power or worse. thanks for letting us know.

prayers continue for everyone dealing with such awful, powerful storms and other hardships.

hope the work and travels go well and safe for you, everyone. good to find a book (not too big, not too short) for the bus rides.

creating on such a small scale looks tough … but again very cute! how long does it take to crochet a hat?

feeling about the same here … hot, cold, stuffy nose, runny nose, coughing, then not, fever, then not, all back and forth, plus headache, no energy … but thankfully the covid test came back negative and this too shall pass.

the skies lately have switched between being covered with interesting cloud formations to no clouds, just the brightest of blues. leaves have begun changing colors, acorns and pinecones are dropping to the ground. cooler weather here (welcomed … to a point). time to get out sweatshirts and jackets.

hope you all have a good easy day and stay safe.

Glad to hear Meredith and family escaped major damage. I feel for the souls left in Ian’s aftermath, and for those still to be in his path.

Didn’t realize you had to leave so soon for the run-thru. Is it ever possible for you and Don ‘to make a day of it’, and go together?

Cute hat…it really does match Sophie’s eyes. Enjoy your day…hope you get everything worked out! ;)

It’s such a tragedy. So much devastation.

There’s no sense in making a day of it since I’ll be working the whole time! I’ve mentioned before that after 3 or 4 hours of rehearsal and a two hour commute each way – that’s an 8-hour day. And Don would have to kill time while I’m in rehearsal.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

Things look really bad in Florida…glad to hear Meredith and family are ok. Hurricane Ian makes a Michigan snowstorm look like a walk in the park.
I know you prefer real books but an ebook on a tablet or even your phone makes travel so much easier. You could take a whole set of encyclopedias with you that way, lol!
How many hats have you made now? I’m guessing soon every girl will have one.
    Take care

I have books on my iPad. I just don’t like reading from a screen. I have plenty of other books around here I can take.

      I don’t know how many hats – maybe 6?

      Stay safe, Marilyn.

Such good news that Meredith and family stayed safe in the storm. Hope you get your travel plans sorted. Safe travels to New York and home again.

Sophie’s hat is so chic. Love that shade of green. I was wondering if the Blythe doll wigs are interchangeable or are they firmly affixed? I love how you can buy their hands in different positions. My Blythe doll arrived safely from Poland. I took a quick peek to see she was okay but I’m determined not to “play dolls” with her until Christmas. I enjoy the anticipation. Jessie Elizabeth (that’s what I’m calling her after my grandmother) is just so darned cute! Meanwhile, I’m shopping to add to her wardrobe and you know how much fun that is. So much to choose from. I just love all the little shoes.

At long last, I mailed the calendar today, Claudia. It is scheduled to arrive in 8 business days. I think it will be a fun give-away.
    Hugs, Elaine

There are wigs, there are what are called scalps, where the hair is woven onto the scalp. That part of the Blythe head is a separate piece. That’s what I prefer. I have one Blythe that wears a wig and I find it annoying because it keeps slipping all of the time.

I don’t know how you can refrain from playing with her! Can you sneak a little photo of her

Stay safe, Elaine. Thanks for sending the calendar.

Good news about Mere and company. I was thinking about them and I’m relieved they are safe. Good luck with the city trip and all that. I almost always seem to have some small vintage pocket-sized book (maybe an old — and I mean, very old — Agatha or something similar) that I can carry in my purse when I have to be somewhere that I’m likely to either have to wait or travel to. Even if I read them decades ago, they can be fun to revisit — or sometimes it’s just a newer book that isn’t too big and fits the bag. I was glad I had one day — four hours in the urgent care (pneumonia, unfortunately) and I actually finished it off. Safe travels this week.

Feel better, Jeanie. I’m so sorry you have to deal with this.

I’m taking a Simenon with me – they’re very short – so they’re perfect for trips like this.

      Stay safe.

I need a new Simenon. I haven’t read him for awhile and I love them — short but always well written and fun! I hope all goes well.

They’re great books of course but they’re great palate cleansers as well. I often read one between other books.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
