A Little Potpourri on Friday

December 16, 2016 at 9:19 am by Claudia

• Let’s start with last night’s sunset:

I was sitting in the living room and happened to catch that moment when the sun dropped below the horizon. Talk about beautiful!

• I think it’s interesting to note that the first rehearsal of The Comedy of Errors  is on December 19th, the day the Electoral College votes, and opening night is on January 20th, Inauguration Day. Thank heavens this is a comedy. As directed by Darko, it will be very funny, of that I am sure. Humor will be greatly needed and most definitely appreciated.

I wonder: is there a companion piece, The Tragedy of Errors, being performed somewhere? It would be most topical.

• Random shots of the cottage taken yesterday in the late afternoon. I tend to do this when I’m about to leave my little nest and travel to Hartford for a stay. I want to remember it.

• I’d take photos of the kitchen and the office, but there are bags of groceries and piles of things I need to pack taking up space in those two rooms, along with the bedroom. I’ll be doing more of that today and tomorrow. There are many practical and absolutely essential things I need to take with me, of course, but there are also all those items I need to take to make the apartment a home-away-from-home. That makes moving in a long process, especially in the rain that is forecast for Sunday, but it’s the way it has to be for me. I know the apartments very well, though, and that really helps. I know exactly what I need to take.

• Bokeh. I can’t help it.

And one more.

• Congratulations to my nephew, Meredith’s eldest son, who graduates from Ohio State University this weekend! Much love to all.

• It’s very, very cold here today. Wind chill, sub-zero temps; it’s become very cold and it isn’t even officially winter, yet. That doesn’t bode well. We were spoiled last year by very little snow and ice and warmer than usual temperatures. It was nice, but I do know we need the snow pack to replenish the water table. I think that’s going to happen this year.

Have to get moving – there’s lots to do before Sunday.

Happy Friday.

I love my work and once I’m there, I’m fine. But it’s also holiday time, which makes it a bit harder. Thanks, Kathy!

I know you will enjoy the work but it is hard to be away at the holidays. We have some sunshine today so I hope to take some photos of my home and my little bits of decor. Hugs!

Interesting dates you mentioned there. Oh…the scenarios that could be woven! Well, at least you are going some place familiar…and you know the director….and maybe a few others? Unfortunately, it’s the holidays. Hopefully Don can join you for NYD! We are to get another 10 inches starting this afternoon…so at least it has warmed up. Running errands in the frigid weather is certainly no fun…we were doing that yesterday. This weather feels more like the deep freeze of January…I fear for what January may actually bring! Stay warm! ;)

I do know the director and the designers and, of course, the staff at the theater. I also know a couple of people in the cast.

Stay warm my friend! 10 inches of the dreaded snow!

Your cottage photos are lovely as always Claudia.
Yes, a little comedy is needed these days. I find that I am getting more nervous as each day we get closer to that unhappy day.
Here in Minnesota we too are in the deep freeze already and we are expecting 8 to 10 inches of snow overnight.
    Peace

I am beside myself with nervousness! Each day I feel more and more dread. Hang in there with the weather, Carolyn Marie – that’s a lot of uno coming your way!

I think we ~ every one of us ~ is actually living “The Tragedy of Errors”. So sad.

Sounds like you are pretty well set for the trip. When it is so cold, it is hard to pack much actually into the car a day or two early. So your Sunday morning will be extra busy, I’m sure.

Snowmagedden is set to hit in a couple of hours in our neck of the woods. Most of the schools in our area are closing around 1:00 this afternoon. 94 days til Spring….. but who’s counting??

This winter (and it’s not even winter yet) is starting off with a big bang, Chris. Hang in there. It’s awfully cold here but we haven’t yet had (crossing fingers) the amount of snow you’re getting.

I think we’re living The Tragedy of Errors, as well!

I hope your trip to Hartford goes smoothly, the production benefits from your expertise and you’re able to be home soon. I look forward to seeing how you decorate your temporary home!

My dh is in a production of “The Seminar” playing the lead, Leonard. In our 36 years together, I have never heard my kind and gentle husband swear. In this play, every other word out of his mouth is a word I’d never expect him to say. It was shocking at first (I didn’t read the script like I usually do this time) but then it became funny. And there is a kiss …. our friends didn’t know that was coming up and all turned to see my reaction in the moment ….

We had a similar winter last year, here in Northern Alberta. Very little snow, lovely warmer than usual temperatures and lots of sun. This year, so far, very little snow, but oh, it’s soooooo cold!! There is an artic mass hanging over much of Canada and areas like the west Coast, where they tend to get very little, if none at all snow, their having to dig out each day! We haven’t had to shovel yet but the cold is getting old! Thankfully by Monday, we’ll be back to balmy temps again. Can’t wait as I only have half out veranda decorated. Got too cold to finish.

Wishing you well on your journey.

    Sincerely, Chy

I once was in a play in which I used a lot of questionable language, and I had to sit my mother down and go over the script with her so she would be aware of everything that was coming. Otherwise, she had a tendency to gasp out loud!

The kiss…that wouldn’t be easy to watch! Though, again, when I was working at the Old Globe, where my graduate students were routinely cast in the productions, one of my students had to kiss Don! That was just plain weird.

Another positive I see that you’ll hopefully be sharing some holiday time with the cast and production staff? Experiencing different event shows from your normal routine will make the time more pleasant and go faster. How long does it take to drive to Hartford? I know bad weather adds time. I’m glad you have a sturdy reliable car. Please drive safely, and I hope the weather cooperates.

The cottage looks so cozy and festive! I love the little Scoutie paw print. It reminds me of the ones my kids made for me of their hand prints in kindergarten. Makes me want to dig them out of their years of storage where I can see them!

The facility that handled her cremation sent that to us. So it’s bittersweet. But I’m glad we have it.

I know how you feel…bittersweet. One of my little hand prints is that of a son who died twenty-one years ago. He would have been fifty in March, but he’ll always be as young as he is in our memeories.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
