Errands run. Unfortunately, more are on the docket for today. I imagine we’re all going through that at the moment!
Do you remember these bunnies that I purchased earlier this year? They were made by the wonderful Vintage by Crystal. She makes all sorts of whimsical figures out of spun cotton.
She has an Etsy shop and also a blog where she sometimes holds sales. The Christmas blog sale happened last week. Let me tell you, you have to move quickly! She opens the sale at 11 am and if you want something, you have to email her ASAP. I wanted three different items, but only snagged one.
That being said, I’m thrilled with the one I snagged. And I must say that Don is as enchanted as I am by this little beauty.
Isn’t this beautiful? The base is covered in Japanese newspaper. Santa is holding a lamb. His body is made of spun cotton. It can be hung from a tree or it can sit on a table.
He’s currently on display next to our little Christmas tree. Don wants us to display him year round. Have I ever mentioned the fact that my husband is adorable?
Well, he is.
I will refrain from mentioning anything about the horrors going on in Washington DC except to say that the best Christmas present ever would be to see Trump impeached and in jail and all the Senators and Reps who are voting for the Tax Scam voted out of office in 2018 and 2020. I’d be willing to go without other presents indefinitely if this present came my way.
And we can do that. Money and greed should not be what motivates a public servant. If it is, you are no longer qualified to call yourself a public servant. Period.
Okay. Moving on to the other side of this crap. Don and I are getting a present that I already know about – Pete Souza’s new book of photographs taken during the Obama presidency. Don doesn’t know this, but someone had to buy it and it was yours truly. It will be under the tree on Christmas morning.
I woke up way too early this morning so I’m going to use it to my advantage and go shopping early in the day. Then, I hope I will be done!
Happy Tuesday.

agree about the presents. those spun-cotton figurines are precious and i love photos like those (of the sousa book about the obama presidency) that show the person behind the job. glad you have them.
hope you get the other present you wish for! i think it needs to happen, too.
good luck on more errands for a happy tuesday!

Thanks, Kathy. I’ll take another indictment or two for the time being!
Siobhan McGrath says
I want that book too!
I love how well he contrasts the strength of BO as President to the weakness of the orange one. The power of the photograph.
Lots of commentary on this side of the Pond about the state of the Orange ones health. If he is attempting to hide an illness, he does another disservice to the American people, and everyone in the world also coping with illness each and every day.
Christmas in your part of the world looks beautiful

His mental health has always been in question, but I agree. His physical health doesn’t appear to be strong. I don’t want him getting out of anything because of it, you know what I mean?
Carolyn Marie says
I totally agree!
Claudia says
Thanks, Carolyn Marie!

Your new Santa is a treasure! What a fun addition to Christmas and maybe year round decor also! Lunch with some church friends today so that should be fun. I ran errands yesterday and got most everything done! I too wish for the end of this presidency! It cannot come soon enough. Hugs!

Tomorrow would be good, right?

I bought that same book for my hubby…or should I say, for both of us! It is on its way. (Itβs a surprise, because when we went to get it…it was already sold out.) Can you believe…our shower decided now is a good time not to work. So an emergency repair is in order today…on top of everything else. But, overall, I think Iβm ready to enjoy my sons visit, and truly be in the moment. Cute acquisition…I can see why you would want to display him all year round. Enjoy your day! :)
Claudia says
I was surprised that my local B & N had a couple of stacks available. I was sure it would be impossible to find!
Donnamae says
Oh me too! I looked at their website…and ordered it. I was delightfully surprised! I received it today…it βs already wrapped! ;)

I LOVE those type of figurines and yes to keeping it out year round. My son, who works at Barnes & Noble, says the Sousa book is selling like crazy. I think it is because people are wanting desperately to remember when a thinking, intelligent human being occupied the office of POTUS.
Claudia says
Good! I’m glad it’s selling so well. We want to honor and remember a President who had our respect and who we knew was caring and compassionate.
Judy says
As a collector of all things Christmas for many years, I can tell you that Santa is a treasure!! Lucky you, Claudia.
Claudia says
Thanks, Judy. I really love it.
April Baldwin says
Nice Santa! I want that book too! Have a great day.
Claudia says
I think we should all take pictures of ourselves holding the book and send them to Trump.
April Baldwin says
Oh that sounds like a great idea!

Remembering the BO presidency when a decent human being was in office and his equally decent partner was First Lady. I’d also like to give a shout out to recently deceased San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee. As it is true for many in elected office, there are those who disagreed with him on how he handled issues (e.g., tech growth in San Francisco driving up rents and driving away people who can’t afford the obscene rents), but everyone remembers him as a compassionate decent human being who was a reluctant politician, but never acted like a politician. Hoping the upcoming elections will put in office more women and men who are in touch with the American people and what we need. Claudia, your Santa is jolly and the photobook will be inspiring.
Claudia says
I read about him at the time of his death. What a tremendous loss and so sudden!
tammy j says
your Don IS adorable. yes!
and is it my imagination or does the santa resemble him a little bit?
which makes it even more special!
I haven’t seen the book yet but someone shared a few pictures from it and the caption was…
“you can’t fake this.”
meaning the true kindness and concern and love and integrity and sense of fun!
I’ll be getting the book for sure. xo
Claudia says
Only, I think, because of the beard, though Don doesn’t have a full beard!
You’re absolutely right. You can’t fake this. Perfect caption.

So, as I was reading and paging up, I saw the picture of the Santa, and at first I thought it was Don!!!! Just for a second…… so I can see why you both love it! It really is an art piece.
That book does look amazing. The love they shared for each other and their girls truly did shine. And the shining smiled upon all of us. Now there is nothing but dirt and shame and ugly that comes out of that idiot’s pores and also affects all of us. ugh. He is a disgrace. Your dream/ wish is mine (and that of so many), too. It is actually a prayer I offer up every day.
We did a bunch of errands today, too. Stores were busy, but NOTHING like a weekend!! I think I am done except for a few fresh produce things we will need later in the week. Hope the remainder of your Tuesday is grand!!
Claudia says
Me too. I also pray to handle it with grace, but I fail most of the time. I despise him. And everyone associated with him.
Marilyn says
That Santa is adorable.

Thank you, Marilyn!

OMG, I didn’t know Pete Souza was coming out with a book! I – WILL – HAVE – IT! I was on his mailing list for the WH Photo of the Day for 8 years and saved every single one of those shots to my own computer. Pete was one of the first people I ever followed on Twitter. I love his work to begin with – it’s hands down gorgeous – and in the days immediately after last Fall’s election I spent a lot of time poring over those nearly 8 complete years of photos, tears in my eyes. It was one of the saddest times in my life – seriously – clocking in on the Sad Meter just below the times I lost my parents I think. I was absolutely bereft but Pete’s gorgeous photos really helped me through it. So I’m thrilled to know there’s a book now. Lots of the same photos I’m sure, but I don’t care. Thanks for mentioning it – as soon as I’m done with this comment, I’m headed to Barnes & Noble’s website. Unless maybe that little independent bookstore near you would let me order it – what was the name, Claudia? Do you happen to know if they ship? I’m trying to support small businesses as much as I can – not just on the Saturday after Thanksgiving – and as far as I know there aren’t any independents near me. Thanks again for this great tip-off! How did I NOT know about this?? Peace. π

If you were on Instagram, you could follow Pete Souza. He’s been showing photos from the book for several months. He also has a FB page, I think. I don’t know whether my little store has it, Janet. You’d probably have better luck with B & N. So glad to have been a part in letting you know about it.

I love spun cotton figures and Crystal is so good at making hers look like they are really vintage!..Love that little feather branch he is holding…I looked at Crystal’s blog and Etsy store after seeing your Santa on Instagram and her items are just precious…Yes your husband is adorable…and kind…generous…loving…considerate…and most importantly…a good husband to you Claudia!…I also agree with keeping Santa out all year…a bit of Christmas cheer in our hearts everyday wouldn’t hurt at all…
Claudia says
It surely couldn’t hurt!
Nancy says
Got the book too but am waiting for Christmas night to read it!
Claudia says
The perfect present!
Vicki says
I don’t know much about how these little treasures are made of the spun cotton. It’s interesting craftsmanship; very unique. I need to read up on it! Do I even know what spun cotton is or how it gets that way? I’m intrigued.
Vicki says
Well, yeah, I did know; just needed a refresh. I didn’t realize I’ve had a few all along, from my aunties and parents (Christmas in the ’50s or maybe even late ’40s). We used them year after year as package tie-on tags or attached for fun to a stocking full of goodies; some of them have the addition of foil, pipe cleaners (they’re falling apart; wee figures like angels and snowmen). Can’t wait til I find them again, somewhere in all my packed boxes (aggravating remodeling and can’t have my stuff out!). Makes for some interesting reading; I actually did NOT know that spun cotton figures are such an old-world craft, like going ‘way, ‘way back in time (but it makes sense; people used what they had). Have said it before, but learn something new LOTS here at MHC.
Claudia says
Yes we had some when I was a kid, via the German side of the family.
