My dad isn’t home yet.
All I heard from my mom yesterday was “Daddy’s going to be home tonight!”
Over and over.
Then, around 7:30, the phone rang and I heard curse words coming from Mom. Something about Daddy’s connecting flight from Philadelphia being canceled. Mom said some bad things about US Air. She’s had trouble with that very same connecting flight before. She doesn’t like flying US Air. So Daddy was trying to figure out if he should take the train from Philadelphia to NYC and then take the bus from there to home or if if he should stay at a hotel and go through some weird flight connections again this morning. He decided to stay at the hotel.
So Mom got up this morning thinking he would be getting in around 12:30.
But he just called. And now, he’s taking the train! I can’t make sense of it all. He got worried about flying with his guitar. His childhood friend in San Diego, who’s a musician, gave him a beautiful guitar. Rob has lots and lots of guitars. Dad got worried about trying to get it on board the two separate flights he would have to take this morning on a totally different airline (Delta).
Mom sighed.
She’s too groggy to keep track of it all.
She doesn’t know when the heck he’ll be home. Sometime today.
Meanwhile, I had to go to that doctor yesterday and they took off my sore nail. Then they did a little poking and prodding and I don’t like it when they do that. I was shaking. That place makes me scared.
Then they cut all my nails.
It seemed to go on forever.
I was exhausted.
Now Mom is making me wear a danged sock on my sore paw every time I go outside.
I hate it when she does that.
But I don’t feel as sore as I did. That’s good.
I tell you, you have no idea the indignities I have to suffer.
Happy Tuesday (I know Mom always writes that.)
Scout
Damn! I hate it when that happens! Hopefully it will all be over soon and be well worth all of the anguish.
Thank you, Shanna. I’m glad you understand.
Scout
Loll, oh the indignities! Poor Scouty :)
S
xo
Poor me.
Scout
Poor Scout. I know that going to see the vet is scary, but sometimes we have to do scary things in order to feel better. I hope your paw gets better very soon.
I prefer not to think about flying. I hate the loss of control that happens on a trip, with delays and connecting flights and who-knows-what can happen with luggage. I must think about it, however, since I have a trip coming up on Thursday. Sounds like your husband will be home before you know it.
Happy Tuesday Scout!
In spite of your sore foot, I have a feeling it’s going to be a GREAT day :)
xo
I hope so, Lori. After the indignities of yesterday, it can only go up.
Scout
Dear Scout,
I’m sorry you had to go to the doctor yesterday, I get the willies at the doctor too. But you’ll be feeling much better now and able to keep up with mom and enjoy the snow outside too.
Please tell your mom I’m so sorry your dad wasn’t able to make it home last night. I know you guys have missed each other so much and so looking forward to last night.
Thinking of you all and I bet your dad will be playing you a song on his new guitar before you know it. Be sure and give him a biscuit when he gets home. ;)
xo
I will, Sally. That’s a good idea!
Scout
Thanks Scout for keeping us updated on Dad. Hope he makes it home safely this morning………and, when rested, plays a lovely tune for you and mommy!
Meanwhile Scout – while waiting for your toenail to heal why don’t you stop by and take a look at my penguins this morning…..if you think your nails required a pedi wait ’til you see what they’re confronted with, ha! ha!
Hope the day turns out to be wonderful. Tell mommy to hang in there.
Woof – Mary
I will visit your penguins, Mary.
Scout
Poor Scout, I love you buddy, that was a very rough day! Hopefully your daddy will be home soon and all will be right with the world again!
Mary
I hope so. I miss my dad.
Scout
I know when our Peppy used to suffer indignities, Scout. He was brave and muddled through it all. How can you type with such a sore paw, sweetie??? Must hurt a lot.
xoxo,
Connie
;-)
Well, Connie, it’s my left rear paw. And I use my front paws for typing. Thank goodness, I can still type.
Scout
I’m sure you’re not laughing, but Don’s journey is sounding like “Planes Trains and Automobiles.” Tell Scout her nail will heal up quickly!
Mom just put the sock on my foot again, Diane.
Scout
Oh, Scout, I’m so glad your foot is getting better! I’m sorry your dad didn’t make it home, but you’ll see him today.
I guess I can wait a few more hours, Mary Ann. I don’t like it, though.
Scout
Scout, it sounds like you and your mom (& dad ) had a rough day yesterday. Here’s hoping for an awesome homecoming day today. Perhaps your dad will serenade both of you with his new guitar – and you can join in. And if you do, please make sure your mom takes some pictures of you singing! Even a short video clip would be nice.
I just love hearing your adventures – I was in a grumpy mood this morning but your writing just makes me smile. Take care Scout.
I’m glad I made you smile, Deb.
Scout
Oh Scout you poor thing! But just think now your paw will be better and your Papa will hopefully get home sometime today! Tell your Mama to rest some and be ready for lots of hugs!
Linda
I will, Linda.
Scout
Dear Scout, I hope your Daddy make it home today. Your Mom just misses him, just like you do. Sorry about your sore paw…hope it feels better soon. When Dad gets home you can tell him all about it. Now go give Mom a kiss!
I only give her a kiss when I’m in the mood to, Ann.
Scout
Hello, Claudia,
The reference to Don’s new guitar reminded me of a video that came out a few years ago. A Canadian musician’s guitar was broken by an airline and he couldn’t get any satisfaction in his dealings with them, so he wrote a humourous song. It took off in a big way. You might enjoy it, if you’re not already familiar with it.

-Karen
I’ll tell Mom to go listen to the song, Karen.
Scout
Hope you’re feeling better soon, Scout…and can get that sock off! Hope your dad is home safely SOON!
I don’t like that sock, Linda.
Scout
Dear Scout – it is so good to hear from you even under these conditions! Be brave about your sore paw and wear the sock. At least it is not one of those silly scarfs around your neck like I get when my Mom takes me to the groomers. Hope your Dad gets home soon. Mom will be so happy and think of all those great songs you all can sing together. Your friend, Chester in Missouri.
Oh Chester, my mom and dad have made me wear those scarves before. I feel your pain.
Scout
One of my favorite all time posts. Except the fact that Don is not home yet. Glad to have popped by to catch up. Looks like over all everything is the well at MHC.
Thank you for popping by, Kate.
Scout
I hope your family is reunited soon and you can have a wonderful time relaxing and sharing stories this evening. Sorry us humans are so complicated Scout! We really don’t try to be this difficult :)
My mom says I’M complicated. She’s got it all wrong.
Scout
Dear Scout, Don’t worry things will be looking up soon! Believe me, I understand the frustrating day you had. It probably didn’t help to hear that daddy’s flight connection got screwed up. Going to the vet’s expecting to have just one nail removed and then having them all cut must have been exhausting and scary! The noise in those vets offices can be very disturbing to a sensitive dog soul! As a little Shih Tzu with a sensitive soul, I get really shaky with loud noises and unexpected changes. I have a feeling things will be looking up really soon! When daddy walk through the door your heart will be wagging because mommy will be elated and we will all have a wonderful reunion! Maybe daddy will serenade mommy with some songs this evening if he isn’t too tired. From one doggie to another. My name is Kayla and I sit on my mommies lap all the time while she reads your mom’s blog.
Hi Kayla, it’s nice to meet you. I’m glad you understand.
Scout
I’m happy the vet was able to take care of your toe. It is a stressful experience, isn’t it? Keep that sock on; you don’t want an infection! Try not to fret too much. Your family will be reunited very soon!
Do I have to keep the sock on?
Scout
Scout dear, it sounds like you’ve been through the wars in the last day but your Mommy is just taking care of you. And the bad weather have stopped your Dad but he probably made a smart decision to take the train. The airlines are notorious for breaking guitars, never mind losing them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kOARe0s5pY Take care, J
I know. My dad had a guitar once that the airlines broke. The neck was snapped in two. He doesn’t trust them anymore.
Scout
Oh Scout. Sorry about your Daddy. I hope he gets home today. I bet you are excited. Sorry about the toe and the socl. I hope the sock is a pretty one at least. Just be a good doggie because mommies always know best. Puppy Kisses.
It’s just a plain old white sock that Mom doesn’t want anymore.
Scout
Dear Scout, This is Nellie and I’ve decided to comment for my mom because, let’s face it, our people need us! I too have heard those empty promises that my dad or the other pups are coming home, only to find mom in a bad mood and me here alone with her! I know just what you mean about shaking at the vet and my sincerest sympathy goes out to you. My hints to you for getting that infernal sock off–grab the end with your teeth and pull, then shake it to bits like it was vermin intruding on your territory. Your photo shows off your beautiful fur and ears quite nicely! I hope your dad gets home soon. He’ll know just what to do to cheer up your mom! And I think dads are the best for giving a good scratching to that spot on the back. Love, Nellie
Nellie, I want to take that sock off but Mom has an eagle-eye on me.
Scout
Yikes! ” What a revolting development this is! ” Hopefully it will all be over soon & you will all be together~~~cozy & happy in your sweet home. Take care Scout ~~~ we are sending our love!
Linda & Cookie
Thank you, Linda and Cookie.
Scout
Scout, I’m sorry to hear about your doctor visit but sometimes moms have to do things to help their kids feel better. Pretty soon when your dad gets home everything will be ok again. He’ll be so happy to see you and your mom that you’ll both forget about how bad your day was yesterday.
I know, Kathy, but I just don’t like the doctor!
Scout
Oh Scout, poor baby, what an ordeal and then daddy did not make it home. Don’t worry, he will be home today. Sounds like mommy is not a happy camper, you better give her lots of cuddles.
I’m trying, Sue. But I have lots to do and let’s face it -everything is about me!
Scout
Scout honey you need to come stay with Aunt Mere in Florida. I’ll treat you right.
Hugs, Aunt Mere
Hi Aunt Mere!
I’ve never been to Florida. And I hear Max doesn’t like other dogs! You know I have to be the alpha dog.
Scout
Scout, you poor baby…..things will get better today. That toe nail is going to feel good as new soon and you won’t need that sock anymore. Your dad will be home today, I am pretty sure. I am predicting a happy reunion tonight! Hang in there!
Sending you a pat on the head and a tickle on the belly.
~Your mom’s friend, Patti
Thank you, Patti! I like my belly tickles!
Scout

Scout
Oh, Scout, my husband has been stranded in Philly by US Air more times than I like to think about! I can understand the curse words from Mom!
Mom does not like US Air. She likes Philadelphia – she used to live there. Just not US Air in Philadelphia.
Scout
Glad to hear you are feeling better after your trip to the vet, Miss Scoutie. Your papa will be home soon and be sure to give him and mom some extra licks so they both feel better after this delay!! Enjoy your day!!! Francine
Thank you, Francine!
Scout
Awwww Scout, you are so adorable. I am so glad your foot is feeling less sore….and hang in there, I am more than sure you Dad will be home soon.
Thank you, Stitchy. I can’t wait to see my dad!
Scout
Scout, mom’s can be funny about stuff like that. Hope you covered your ears when she was swearing! Take good care of her….she needs patience right now! ;)
I’m taking care of her, Donnamae.
Scout
Dear Scout ~ I think you need a doggie treat and that your mommy needs some kind of homebaked goodie and a cup of tea. Then you both can curl up and take a nap. Your daddy will be home safe and sound before you know it. Hang in there!
Mom gave me an extra treat yesterday because I had to go to the Doctor’s office.
Scout
Dear Scout, Ziggy here, the Mighty Morkie. Guess my posting skills aren’t so great, I wrote you a post as Mom went to get her shoulder worked on and it’s not here. She’s complaining about it. You know those humans, such babies. They’re nothing like us, and especially what you had to endure yesterday. Just be thankful they didn’t turn you into a cone head! Those are the worst! I know once your Dad comes home everybody will be so much happier and you’ll be showered with treats from Dad. They are such suckers when it comes to our big eyes! You lie low and rest that footie. One of your “besties,” Ziggy, the Mighty Morkie…
Hi Ziggy. I hate those cones. Mom does, too, because when I have one, I bang into the walls. I guess you’re right. A sock is better than a cone.
Scout
Hi Scout!!! You are such a pretty girl!!! Boy it sounds like mom is frazzled with the air lines. Hopefully your dadddy will show up any minute and then be prepared to see lots of big smiles on mommy and daddys faces!!! I know you dont like your foot wrapped, but mommy DOES know best. Just give her the “poor Me” look and I bet you will get more treats!!! Play it up Scout!!!
MJ
Mom says she is immune to the poor me look. But I don’t think she really is.
Scout
I feel your pain. I hate when my mom takes me to get my nails trimmed. I’m embarrassed to say I start whining when I realize we’re near the vet. But, I get treats after, so it’s all good. : )
Jake
Hi Jake! I got a treat after, too. That helps.
Scout
Scout, you are such a beautiful girl, I hope you know that. Tell mom – my sympathies to her, and I hope tonight is a welcome home night.
Hi Scout,
I hope your Dad is home by now. Be patient, you know how hard it is to train humans. Sorry about the sock, if I were you I’d chew it off. Do you live with cats? Cuz if you do, you can make it look like the cat chewed it off; I blame lots of stuff on my cats. It’s funny, my humans think I’m perfect, they don’t have a clue! My mom is sick so I’m reading blogs to her to cheer her up. I’m glad I found your post; I’m so tired of reading stuff these humans write! Tell your human that my human says “hi”. Hope to talk to ya again.
Bless your heart Scout, I hope your paw feels better soon. And I hope your dad doesn’t have anymore problems getting home. I know how much you and your mom miss him. Hugs, Debi
Sending Hugs! {{{Claudia}}} {{{Scout}}} {{{Don}}}
Hoping Don makes it home safely (and the guitar). Also hope Scout heals fast!
Poor Scout! The dachsie we had growing up had a torn dew claw. The vet removed it and bandaged his paw. He healed pretty fast. But then whenever he did something wrong, he would lift up his paw as if to say: “Oh, please don’t scold me, my little paw hurts, see how I’m holding it up?” He did this for years and it melted our hearts every time!
Aún no ha llegado Don?
Tiene razón en quejarse del mal servicio de las líneas aéreas!
Saludos a Scout, pobre, con las uñas cortadas y la pata lastimada
Un abrazo
Hi Scout — since I’m a cat I’ve never had a sock on my paw — you know it would just be snatched off quicker than you could say “bless my paws and whiskers!” but I know you’ll be glad when it’s off… and your daddy gets home. I don’t know about flying in planes either, but I know I’d rather have my four paws on the ground!
>^.^<
Oliver
Well, Scout! It sounds like you were at sixes and sevens on Tuesday. I’m sorry about your paw (and that darn sock). And sorrier that you didn’t get to see your dad when you were expecting to. But I’m grateful for the update. Mom is lucky to have you there.
