It’s time, girls! Time for our PJ Party. I must admit I haven’t been to a PJ Party since I was a teenager. We used to watch late night scary movies in those days. We had a local show called “Shock Theater” and we’d watch Frankenstein and Dracula and The Mummy and cover our eyes and scream.
This party will be a bit more sedate, unless the sight of me in my flannel pjs causes you to scream. And it well might! I have long been a fan of flannel pjs and I make no bones about it. I could easily wear my pjs all day long. I have worn them all day long. And I wasn’t sick.
Here am I last year packaging up my first-ever Etsy orders. Note coffee cup nearby and box of donuts on the counter. Note now dead coffee maker on the counter behind me.
I’ve had many adventures in them, many of them written about right here on this blog. I recently had to run outside, wearing only my flannel pjs and a pair of white socks to wrestle Scout to the ground when she was trying to get a squirrel who had been caught inside our dog corral. This highly dramatic incident occurred in full view of all the morning commuters on our road. Don’t worry. I was able to get the squirrel to safety. The socks were ruined. It was very muddy out there.
Have you noticed that my Flannel PJs have a squirrel on them? I don’t think that’s a coincidence, do you?
I’ve driven my husband to the bus station in my flannel pajamas. I’ve danced in my flannel pajamas. I’ve greeted the FedEx guy, the UPS guy, and Lori, our mail lady, in my flannel pajamas. I’ve gardened in my flannel pajamas. Many times. I’ve painted and created in my flannel pajamas. My chalkboard that you see on the sidebar was painted and antiqued during a wintry day spent in my flannel pjs. I regularly, almost exclusively, blog in my flannel pajamas. I’ve coached actors over the phone wearing my flannel pajamas. I’ve cooked, baked and cleaned the house in my flannel pajamas.
I wrote an Ode to Flannel Pajamas in this post.
Don captured me blogging in my flannel pajamas in this photo:
Note Scout in her tunnel. And my well-worn slippers, since discarded. And I’m not thrilled with the way my top is pooching – it makes me look like I’ve got an even bigger gut than I have. This is called a reality shot, my friends. Try not to be jealous.
Oh I forgot. I’ve shoveled snow in my parka and flannel pajamas.
I started the Flannel Pajamas Club more than a year ago and posted the requirements for membership:
• You must love wearing your flannel pajamas.
• Simply loving them isn’t enough. You have to find any excuse to wear them.
• Possible excuses: “But I need to clean the house.” “My writing suffers if I’m not comfortable.” “It’s 3:00 pm.” ” It gets dark early.” “I just came home from work and I have to change my clothes, so why waste another outfit? I’ll just go straight to my pajamas.”
• More excuses: “If I must cook, then I have to wear my flannel pjs.” “But I’m drinking hot chocolate.“
• That’s all. Simple.
And I love nothing more than finding an excuse to put them on around 4ish so that I can have hot chocolate in my pajamas. Heaven.
This is my newest pair of flannel pajamas:
I got them from Target and I love them. My other squirrel pajamas are still here, but to put it kindly, they are threadbare. But Don gave them to me and he really loves them. So I wear them occasionally, even though the fabric has ripped under the armpit. This particular pair is by Nick and Nora. The cut of the top isn’t the most flattering – it’s boxy in a way my squirrel pajamas were not and makes me look like I weigh a lot more than I do. But here goes. Don took this photo with my old camera with the lights on and it’s a bit blurry.
A girl and her dog.
Okay. As you can see, I clearly have no pride, so why should you? So be brave and share a pic of you in your flannel pajamas. Or cotton pajamas. Or yoga pants and a T-shirt. Come on, go for it. Tell us why you love them. Bring some popcorn and something decadently sweet to eat. I’ll supply the hot chocolate. Be there or be square.
Just write your post, click on the post title and copy the URL address that shows in your browser. Supply that information in the link manager below and you’re good to go!
Enjoy!

This is the most fun blog party I have ever been to. Quite frankly, this has been a very stressful week and your party has brought me back to reality. May I be the first to say you my dear have panache! Love your pj’s and my, doesn’t Scout look so proud that you are her Mommy! Thank so much for a very fun evening!!!
Big, Big Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Claudia says
You are so welcome, Susan. I’m so glad you joined in!
Dewena Callis says
You are so cute and I’ll look forward to seeing everyone in their flannels. Alas, I cannot enter. I wear flannel gowns in very cold winter, which we don’t often have here.
Claudia says
We’re not limited to flannels, Dewena!
Diane says
Fun party! Guess I’ll be the token party pooper as I only wear pjs for sleeping– or illness. Some of us need to loosen up!!
Claudia says
Then write about sleeping in them!
Sally says
Can’t wait to start reading everyone’s posts! Yours is great Claudia. LOVE IT and your pajamas! What fun!
Claudia says
Thank you for joining in, Sally!

Hi Claudia!
I can’t believe it! I used to watch Shock Theater to. It was on so late and it was scary because I had to go to bed right after. Well I’m in my flannel pajamas right now and I wore them all day yesterday. They are the most comfortable and cozy garment I can think of. I don’t have any pics of me in my flannels . I have some good pictures of me in my pajamas brushing my dog but it wasn’t cold that day and they are made of cotton. So no pics to post.
You look so cute in yours. Well I’ve rattled on enough.
~Clara
Claudia says
Take a picture of your pajamas, Clara. Or just write about them! Join in!

Hi Claudia, first, I have to say WordPress makes it hard to follow their blogs. I just decided to see if your link was up, I thought it was tomorrow, and the email would arrive in my inbox at some point tomorrow. So, glad I checked and linked up! I agree with all your reasons to wear pjs, flannel in the winter, especially for housework. I do wear them in my backyard to weed, etc. I do all my blogging in them. If I could have gotten away with it, I would have thrown a scarf around my neck, and big earrings, cute flats, and wore them to work! xo
Claudia says
Hi Barbara, I’m so glad you’re here!
I wrote in yesterday’s post that I would have this post up at 8:00 EST, but if you didn’t see that post you wouldn’t have known. I like to do that for a party to give everyone extra time to link up. It’s same time I post the A Favorite Thing party, too.
When you get the email has nothing to do with WordPress – that’s the time I have elected to send out my email subscriptions through Feedburner. You’ll get it today, just like you normally do. Never fear!
I so agree! If I could wear flannel pajamas to work, I would! The addition of earrings is a brilliant idea!
Regula says
Hello Claudia
Thanks for the invitation! I’m enjoying a looooong evening at home in my pyjis. I love your squirrels. I’m still trying to find a really nice flannel pyjama … Have a nice day. Regula
Claudia says
Good luck on your search, Regula. Shouldn’t there be lots of flannel pajamas available in Switzerland? Seems like there should be!
Donnamae says
I can’t wait to take a look at all the bloggers in there flannel pj’s.. that kind of sounds like I have a disturbed personality, doesn’t it? Really, they are the warmest, most comfortable thing I own. Have fun! ;)
Claudia says
Me, too. Donnamae. Love, love my pajamas.
Dayle says
What a fun party, Claudia. I didn’t get to join in (couldn’t find one photo of me in pajamas), but I do love wearing them around the house.
Claudia says
Glad you stopped by, Dayle.
Shanna says
I’m not a blogger, so I haven’t the foggiest idea how I could post a photo. But I am guilty of wearing my flannel peejays way more often than is appropriate. My problem is that I wear them so often that most of the photos I have of me are, regrettably, proof of the fact. My mail lady and UPS guy wouldn’t recognize me without them!
Claudia says
Good for you, Shanna! Keep wearing them!
Linda Petersen says
You look super-cute in your jammies! I don’t have a blog & I haven’t figured out how to post a picture but I’m a flannel PJ Queen none the less :0). My favorites are Nick and Nora from Target & I have two pair with sock monkeys on them. I like the boxier top because I can wear my thermal underwear if it’s extra chilly. My husband stays dressed completely with shoes & socks until he goes to bed. I wear my PJ’s all the time unless I have to go out & certainly by 4:00 in the evening!! I’m also guilty of going through the drive thru @ the bank, Macdonald’s, working outside, & on & on. The very best socks to wear with flannel PJ’s are the Wigwam wool blend. They get better as time goes by~~~! This has been fun~~~all you girls out there~~~wear your jammies in good health.
XOXO Linda
Claudia says
Nick and Nora pajamas always have such fun patterns!
Barb McKay says
I LOVE my jammies! I wear them more than my regular clothes. I craft, paint, cook, clean and sleep in them. I used to saunter outside in my jammies with a cup of coffee and enjoy the sunshine of the new day. Used to, until the morning I felt “watched”, and eventually spotted my neighbour ON HIS ROOF watching me! :)
Here’s to comfort! Barb
Claudia says
Oh pooh on him! Let him watch!
An Enchanted Cottage says
What a fun party. I love your PJ’s, Claudia. I’m afraid I’d be too warm if I wore flannel to bed. I used to wear flannel nightgowns, but I’ve found over the years that I prefer materials that have a little more ‘give’ to them because I’m always tossing and turning and those types of materials don’t seem as constricting to me. Pretty soon we’ll all be switching to our cotton t-shirts and sleep pants – can’t wait for spring!!!
Donna
Claudia says
Donna, I wear them around the house, but I don’t sleep in them. My usual attire for sleeping is no attire.
Linda @ A La Carte says
I do love my flannel gown and my robe but you have inspired me to get some flannel pj’s for hanging out in around the house for next winter. I could never sleep in them as I’m a nightgown girl, but oh for comfort around the house I’m in! Love the nIck and nora patterns! Thanks for hosting this fun get together!
hugs, Linda
Claudia says
You are very welcome, Linda!
Cassandra says
I’ve posted my poor iPod camera shots for the party even though I’m a little late. I tried doing a full length one in the mirror but it came out blurry. There’s also a bit of a surprise for you in the background. Our Women’s Ministry at church does a PJ party every spring and fall and it’s so much fun!
Great way to start the week! Thanks!
~ Cassandra
Claudia says
I’m so glad you joined in, Cassandra!
Annette Tracy says
Oh Claudia, this is such fun. A great way to start the week out. So far I’ve seen all the pics, and loved the stories our brave PJ wearers are posting. I don’t blog as you know, so no pics. I’m pretty much a blue jean gal during the day, but on cold evenings I love wearing a pair of flannels bottoms. Kohl’s sells men’s flannel bottoms and it’s so easy to find different patterns. Next year I’ll have to pick up some from Target, as they are so cute. As for sleeping, it’s a nightgown. Shock Theater was my favorite! I’d always get so mad when I was young waiting up for it only to fall asleep before it was over! It must have been broadcast out of Detroit, as I was up in Flint and watched it locally. Thanks for that great memory. Oh, I have ran errands in my flannel bottoms, like the drive thru and the bank! Such decadent fun you’re having today.
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Annette! Listen, now that I’ve posted photos of my in my PJs there’s nowhere to go but up! Didn’t you love Shock theater? Didn’t it start with a skull on the television screen? Seems to me it did.
Mary says
YOU look stunning in flannel, ha! ha! You are brave – I’ve not got any flannel PJ’s and my others are too revealing for public view (although I did do that back view on board the Queen Elizabeth last year!!!!). It’s not like I’m young and gorgeous so will leave sleepware to those gals……………….how about me in ten layers in Antarctica, now I can show you some good ones like that – I look like the Michelin man!!!!!
Laughiing – Mary X
Claudia says
10 layers in Antarctica would be just fine, Mary!
Manuela@A Cultivated Nest says
What fun! Well you look cute! My daughter has those jammies and some cloud ones. I get way too hot to easily to wear flannel!
Claudia says
I only wear them around the house, Manuela – not to sleep in. But you live in the South and that’s a whole other story!
Nancy Blue Moon says
I don’t have a blog Claudia but I do love spending the day in my flannel pj’s..and I do it quite often! You look adorable in yours..I love the way Scout stays so close to you..
Claudia says
I’m in mine right now, Nancy. And I feel like I’ve got some sort of bug, so I just might stay in them.
Missy George says
I love your Jammys..I don’t own a pair..My husband would have killed me..I live in sweat pants and a tee shirt..just as bad…no pics..
Claudia says
Not bad at all, Missy. Good!

Claudia says
Soon I will be transitioning into cotton, Pam. Not soon enough, since I want Spring here, now!
gardenbug says
I posted a picture of my grandaughter in her ABC decorated flannel nighty doing her gardening. You see, I think nighties and PJ’s are soft & beautiful, but I twist & turn and wear either nothing or a T-shirt. And that I will not post!
Claudia says
I wear them around the house but I sleep sans clothing!
Tina says
Thanks for inviting me to your party. I don’t have a blog, but I am wearing my purple Nick and Nora OWL pajamas to this party. I love flannel, especially when it gets threadbare and just about to burst. Why must we wear real clothes?
Claudia says
I don’t know, Tina!
Robyn says
Oh Shoot I forgot all about this! With my husband having pneumonia I’ve been so busy and having been reading blogs.. LOVE your Pj’s! Is there still time to join?
Claudia says
Yes, you have until tonight at midnight.
Kerry Ann Powell says
Discovering you via Cassandra over at Renaissance Woman. Love this idea! How fun. Be blessed today. Next time I will participate….now I have to go get some cute pajamas. :)
Melanie says
I loved joining your PJ party…and you are so cute in yours!
Sandy says
I’m glad to see that I still have 4 more days to join the party. This has been a heck of a week! Our furnace went out yesterday and right after it was fixed, it went out again a few hours later. Love your flannerl PJ’s! I practically live in my pj’s. Not only do I have flannel, I have some of my fancier but oh so comfy and cozy Vera Wang from Kohl’s. When I got home from work the first thing I would do is put my favorite PJ’s on. I garden, walk the dogs and even run to CVS (right at the corner in my PJ’s) I’ll check out the links and hopefully link up in a couple days. I practically live in my pj’s. I’m all about comfort.
Sandy says
BTW, Love how Scout sits under your legs while you’re on the computer.
Haworth says
I really love your jammies, Claudia! They look so cozy. I always wear nightgowns but, like you, I have worn them inside, outside, and all around the town… mercifully when I’ve gone to the corner store I have a long enough raincoat that covers them entirely. And with a good pair of clogs, a little lip gloss and a hat no one is the wiser . But in general, I don’t bother hiding it. In fact the joke around the neighborhood is that I routinely do my gardening in my nightgown in the early hours. And I love weekend days when I have no place to be and can stay in my nightgown all day. I clean, I knit, I read, and all the while I’m so comfortable. In the winter, I am generally wearing a nightgown within 30 min. of arriving home at night! I do have two pair of Nick + Nora’s — with images of Lucy and Ethel! — that a friend gave to me but I only wear the tops as a jacket over my nightdress when it’s cold.
Nola, Chili's Mom says
Claudia, you DO have pride! It shows in your pj love! Being real is the best part of your blog; total perfection is for the insecure. I love seeing your world as it really is. Gotta go visit the others who posted about their jammies!
Wish I had a way to post my pj photo. Nick and Nora are my fav brand, I’ve worn out 2 pair of the cotton ones with sock monkeys on them.
Barbara Techel says
Omg! I love your flannel, Pj’s and your honesty about staying in them all day!! Love Scout below your feet too. I’d so love to find flannel pj’s with dachshunds on them. Maybe if you ever run across any you could let me know?
