A Poem for a Sunday Morning

Why I Wake Early

Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who made the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and crotchety –

best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness.
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light –
good morning, good morning, good morning.

Watch now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.

     Mary Oliver
from her collection Why I Wake Early published in 2004

Happy Sunday.

Wow is your garden full of blooms. I can’t wait to get all I purchased in the ground. Happy Sunday!

I hope the Phlox holds on a big longer – but we haven’t had any rain lately and we need it!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden with us this morning :-) Blackeyed susans make me break out into a big smile. Now if I just had some fresh homemade peach ice cream to eat while looking, my day would be complete-ha Enjoy your Sunday!

It’s a little warm, but it’s very beautiful today. I hope we get some rain soon, though, because we need it.

Agree with Nancy – the perfect blend of photo and poem. Going through a little bit of a patch right now. Needed this today. Thank you Claudia, and hope you’re feeling better. :>)

A bit tired today, but that may be due to allergies. I’m off to do some coaching via the phone at 3.

    Claudia,

We seem to be on the same wavelength today, both sharing poems of the different times of day. Mary Oliver’s ‘Why I Wake Early’ is beautifully illustrated with your precious pretties. Thanks for sharing her words and your images.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
