Praying
It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch
a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway
into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.
Mary Oliver
A few words from my favorite poet. If you haven’t discovered her yet, you’re in for a wonderful adventure.
Happy Saturday.
Mary Oliver is one of my favorite as well. From her poem, The Summer Day, I have this hanging on my fridge: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” A daily reminder for the two of us to live in the moment and for our kids to think about as they ponder their unfolding lives.
Have a great weekend. It’s a long one here and has started out sunny and bright!
She’s brilliant.
Claudia, I am going to check Mary Oliver out. I like that little poem. There’s a blogger called Country Side Poet…please check her site..she’s very good and touches the heart with her poems. Hope you are doing fine on your trip. Wishing you a great weekend. xoxo,Susie
Have a great weekend, Susie.
I love any reference to silence and prayer. I haven’t read Mary Oliver since college. Thanks for the reminder. That is a beautiful poem. Hedy
Thank you, Hedy. She’s my fave.
Oh Claudia, you have no idea how much I needed the reminder of this wonderful poem from my favorite Mary Oliver, too! My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer on Wednesday and yesterday we heard he has to have surgery, no other options are available to him. We are struggling with the diagnosis and struggling with what life will be afterwards with the effects of the surgery. So this lovely poem from Mary Oliver feels like a bit of a much needed and comforting hug this morning…
Sally, I am going to write you privately. Sending my love and prayers your way, my friend.
Thank you…;)
You are very welcome, Donna.
Just beautiful Claudia!
Thank you, Nancy.
Thank you Claudia, do you have to work today or are they giving you the weekend off?
Nope. I work all weekend long. We only get one day off – Monday. Rehearsals are 6 days a week.
oops, came by to link to yur Sat. party…will try to come back later…
xo bj
I wrote you privately, BJ. Sorry you missed the announcement! We’ll be back with A Favorite Thing at the end of September. I probably should have added a reminder to today’s post, but I’m so busy I forgot.
Hi Claudia, Sally’s letter reminds us how our life can change in a moment. Thank-you for the poem and I hope and pray for all of us to be healthy. Doris
Amen, Doris.
do you happen to know which collection that’s published in? I am considering getting my first Mary Oliver poem book and I’ve just decided, I want that one in there. :)
I believe it’s from Thirst: Poems by Mary Oliver.
Yes. Yes. Following you now on Bloglovin.
Good!
What interesting thoughts!
Happy Weekend!
Judy
Happy Weekend to you, Judy.
Lovely. I will check her out. xo Laura
You’ll like her, I think.
She is just about my all time favorite along with Langston Hughes, early Rod McKuen (boy, am I giving my age away) and Robinson Jeffers.
Oh- Where have I been? I love poets and I don’t know this one. Her writing is beautiful. xo Diana
simple and lovey —
and, your photo is the perfect introduction
My favorite poet, too – but I think you knew that. I have most of her books. I never tire of reading her poems.
A poem from one of my favorite authors. I’ve been collecting bits and pieces of her poems in a Word document on my computer until finally I just bought a volume of her poetry – a collection. I love the way she blends nature and spirituality.
