A Throwback & Work

January 9, 2020 at 8:36 am by Claudia

Throwback to Paris.

Because I need that right about now.

Sigh.

I’m posting a bit earlier today as I have a phone appointment with the director of Jane Eyre  at about 10 am. Since it takes me so long to wake up in the morning and I have yet to have my second cup of coffee with Don, I realized I wouldn’t get everything in before 10 unless I got a move on!

It is very cold here today. Yesterday, seemingly out of nowhere, we had strong winds – very strong, relentless winds starting in early afternoon and continuing all night long. I didn’t see any wind warnings when I checked the weather in the morning, so it was a big surprise.

They were so loud that Don said he felt like we were being assaulted. Thankfully, I slept through the night in spite of them and things are calmer this morning. But goodness, it was crazy! So the temps have dropped and the wind chills have made for a very cold morning.

But it’s sunny and that makes me happy.

Except for my research for the play, things are as usual around here. I’ve had to pause on the renovation of Dove Cottage until I’m back from Hartford next week. (I’m going there for two days, Tuesday and Wednesday) Then I’ll have a little break until I have to check in for a run-through in early February, so I can get back to my ongoing stone work.

I miss working on that house! That’s a good thing because I went through quite a long period of not feeling motivated. So it’s a relief to feel motivated enough that I wish I didn’t have to hit ‘pause.’

As always, I am aware of the insanity going on in Washington and the world but I’m trying to keep a healthy distance from it for my peace of mind.

It’s not easy.

Hope all is well with you.

Happy Thursday.

Good morning Claudia, Have you watched the William Hurt/Charlotte Gainsboroug version of Jane Eyre ? It was filmed at Haddon Hall in the UK and is quite good .

You are welcome to come and stay with my sister and me during your Hartford rehearsal. We’re about 25 miles north of Hartford on Route 91. We could continue the conversation we started at the miniature show in Windsor. We could show you our dollhouses, dogs, cat , talk Paris, or just let you relax in a cozy bedroom. We’d even make you coffee!

I have seen that version, Barbara.

You are so sweet to invite me. I’m pretty sure the theater will put me up in their apartments or at a nearby hotel. But I’d love to visit you both soon and maybe – depending on my schedule in Hartford – we can arrange that. It would be such fun!

We’d love to see you. I think my sister gave you our contact details. I would prefer not to publish them on this page. You could use my email address from this site to reach us or phone. That would be fun. We’d gave lots to chat about.

i, too, am not a fan of strong winds … except for the (sadly-infrequent) times i am on a sailboat.
glad you could sleep through much of it and have a sunny day to enjoy!

supposed to reach 55 degrees here today, then get more seasonably cold. maybe our warmer day will head your way.

glad you have some theater work to do along with the dollhouse projects, too. i try very hard to do something creative (paint, write, knit, counted cross-stitch and/or sew) every day and hopefully for at least an hour. sometimes that happens very, very late at night, but it’s worth the loss of sleep to maintain some balance in my life and especially because those things make me happy.

hope all is well for you and don, everyone, too.

Yes, we have warmer weather coming in for the weekend.

I agree. We need our creative endeavors to keep us balanced! Thanks, Kathy.

Paris. (Sigh.) I’m plenty motivated right now, but still unable to accomplish anything. It’s sad, but without my right hand I am nothing. Enjoy your work in Hartford.

I understand. I broke my right wrist in grad school and I couldn’t do anything! Hang in there, Shanna.

i am not asking for details, but i hope whatever is going on with your right hand heals quickly and isn’t painful, that you have all the help you need.

Thanks for your beautiful Paris photo!! It definitely brightened my morning.

I grew up outside of Hartford in Simsbury, and it used to be a big deal to go into “the city” when I was young. Then I discovered other cities in our country and others. But Hartford is still a nice reminder of my youth.

It’s lovely there, but I think it’s been hard for small businesses as so many workers go home to the suburbs at night. Thanks, Jayne.

Because it greatly affects my physical and mental health & well-being, I, too, must try to silence the nonsense going on (and on and on). A year or so ago I thought it would be “over” and sanity would prevail, but I was so very wrong to think that way.

It is nice to have the motivation and you will be ready to move forward when you return from your days of work. Best of both worlds!!

I thought so too. It’s heartbreaking that it isn’t over. And dangerous.

      Thanks, Chris.

    Dreaming of Paris..

Can’t bear to watch the news at the moment – too close to home.

Is Hartford where they have the doll house shop where you bought some mini vases?

No. I bought them in Chautauqua in western NY. Sadly, that shop isn’t open anymore but they do sell online. Thanks, Barbara.

I’ve been trying to avoid the news these days…the Washington news. It just raises my blood pressure…and I can’t have that. I don’t think there’s enough medication in the world to calm me some days.

I do need a project or two to keep me occupied, though. I’ve already planned out our front yard, flower wise. And after cleaning out the closet underneath the stairs, I found my old bowling ball. A couple of months ago, I remember seeing someone who had glued pennies to a bowling ball. I tracked down the particulars, so I think I might give that a try. We’ll see?

It’s nice that you have the dollhouse stonework to come back to next week. Enjoy your day! ;)

Why glue the pennies? Just curious.

Glad the wind did stop today. It is cold but calm and sunny. This week end should be much warmer.

Thank you for a little bit of Paris today! That was much needed. XO. The insanity around us gets worse and worse and it’s harder and harder to keep a grasp on something. Work and Dove Cottage and great pursuits. I hear we will have a record breaking warm up soon. That’s something to look forward to. I bought the book you talked about on the Carlisle Hotel and am looking forward to getting into that. May the days be kind to you.

Gray and gloomy in Michigan with snow and ice expected today and tomorrow. It’s Michigan — what can we expect. To be honest, our winter has been very light, so no complaints, apart from bad timing!

Thinking about Paris is ALWAYS a good idea! Best wishes for a productive Hartford visit!

Except for the first half of December, ours has been light as well. Fingers crossed it stays that way! Thank you, Jeanie!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
