As I write this, I see tiny leaves on the maple tree that I can see through the den window.
Leaves!
The past two days have been in the high seventies and sunny, so plant life is growing by leaps and bounds. Don took his first stab at mowing part of the front lawn yesterday. I was jealous, because I love mowing the lawn, so I took a few passes until I realized I was exhausted and just might be pushing it a wee bit. And Don gave me the ‘Time Out’ sign. But it felt good. There’s lots more mowing to be done, on spring green colored grass. It looks so pretty.
Since my brain isn’t functioning at its normal whip-smart level (I joke), I find myself aimlessly on the laptop and, when I get a spurt of energy, reading a book. Maybe watering a plant and running the vacuum. Letting Scout in and out. Feeding her. Or watching the last three episodes of the second season of Broadchurch. (Good, but not as good as the first season, in my humble opinion.)
I want to be doing much more, but simply cannot, so there you go.
This particular bug is a pain in the tush.
Don had to go into the city on Thursday and Friday. Late in the afternoon on Thursday, I received a text with a picture of Don pointing to something. It was this:
Yes, that sly devil bought four cupcakes. His audition was on the Upper West Side, and what was facing him as he exited the subway? A Magnolia Bakery.
Yesterday, in a fit of feeling sorry for myself, I ate one with yellow cake and chocolate icing (my favorite combination.) It was so scrumptious that I ate another; which, if I had been in my right mind, I would have refrained from doing. I overindulged.
I actually left a bit on the plate. Untasted. Unconsumed.
This is what happens when you’re housebound and your husband knows you’re miserable and wants to make you feel better. He brings you cupcakes. You see cupcakes and you eat them. Because, even with a stuffed-up nose and a less than sharp sense of taste because of said stuffed-up nose, you can taste that chocolate icing and, well….it’s really a sort of triumph over the debilitating side effects of a cold.
Right?
Happy Sunday.
Sue Hunter says
Oh Claudia, I do hope you feel better, nothing worse than feeling crappy on a nice day.
So glad to hear that your leaves are showing too, I am just on my way outside to have my morning tea in the hippie house and enjoy my leaves.
The cupcakes sound so yummy, I hear Magnolia Bakery is amazing.
I am posting some pictures of our latest fur addition, my husband’s brother’s dog, Alley. We welcomed her into our family when he passed away a few months ago. I was looking at the picture of Riley and Alley reminds me of him but she is just tan.
I have been M.I.A for a bit from blogging but I am back and you were my first visit, missed everyone but I am back now.
Have a lovely day,
Sue
Claudia says
Congratulations on the newest member of the family, Sue. I’ll stop by a look at the pictures! Good to hear from you, my friend.
Linda @ A La Carte says
Claudia, glad you got outside for a bit, but you do have to be careful. I hate being sick and tend to try too soon to do things. Cupcakes, yum~ Don is such a sweet man to bring those to you. I’m going to spend the afternoon with my Mom since I’ve been so tied up with Rosemary I haven’t seen her in a week. Take care and rest.
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
I will. I am so sick and tired of this thing, it’s driving me crazy!
Betsy says
Ah, sweet Don! He knew the cupcakes would make you feel better. My Hubby would have brought me lots of chocolate. :-) I sure hope you kick this nasty bug out on it’s ears soon Claudia. It’s hung around long enough.
Blessings,
Betsy
Claudia says
It sure has, Betsy!
Donnamae says
Cupcakes always make you feel better! Don was so sweet to bring you some! It’s really the pits when a cold keeps you from doing what you love. Hope you can enjoy your Sunday! ;)
Claudia says
I’m trying, it’s absolutely lovely out there, but I’m feeling not so hot.
Regula says
I hope you are feeling better soon. I think it’s completely right to eat as many cupcakes as you can. :-)
Claudia says
Ah, thanks for the vote of support, Regula!
Wendy TC says
Don is such a gem to try to make you feel better with cupcakes. My daughter will be going to college in Sept and we have to pass (almost…) our favorite cupcake bakery to get to her campus. Hmm, I hope she doesn’t mind too many visits from Mom if I bring cupcakes!
Claudia says
I think both the visit and the cupcakes will be very welcome, Wendy!
Janet in Rochester says
So right. And, if sugar’s bad for us, and I believe all the scientists who say it is, what better way to kill all those evil little bacteria swimming around inside us than to munch cupcakes [and other treats]? I’n the name of science, I’m more than glad to volunteer in any cupcake trials or experiments – LOL. Hope you feel tip-top soon.
Claudia says
I’ll round up a group of people willing to be part of the experiment, Janet. After all, we have to sacrifice for the greater good.
Vicki says
Cupcakes rule! I hope you feel better tomorrow.
Claudia says
I hope so too. 3 hours of coughing last night left me more than a bit sleepless.
Bonnie Schulte says
We (husband and I) are under the weather too, with crappy colds, sneezing, and coughing, running nose and eyes. Went to the doctor last Thursday and he prescribed antibiotics for us both, since we’ve had this going on for two to three weeks already. Don’t know if I’m feeling better or not. like you, the lack of energy is getting old fast. But the sun is shining brightly today, so perhaps if we just sit outside and soak the rays in, it’ll help some.
So glad to hear that your sweetie, Don, bought you cupcakes. We must live on the same wave length. Husband picked up Dunking Donuts, for us, thinking that would make us feel better. It didn’t work, guess he has to go back and get more and “bigger” (grin)
Wishing you get back to feeling yourself real soon Claudia. I’m thinking of you!!! Take care…
Claudia says
I’m thinking of you and your husband too! Feel better!
Nancy Blue Moon says
I’m sure you are quite miserable not being able to go outside and do as much as you would like to do..I drove to an Amish greenhouse yesterday to buy our tomato plants for this year..I can’t wait to taste those fresh picked tomatoes again..there is nothing in the grocery stores to compare with them..I wish I would have had those cupcakes when I had the bug..yellow cake with chocolate icing has always been my favorite too Claudia..Best of luck to Don on his audition..I hope it is something on TV so we can see him again..Take care..
Claudia says
Thank you, Nancy!
Judy Clark says
Sweet Claudia – am so sorry you are still feeling so bad. Hopefully the nicer weather will help! And, oh yes, cupcakes will definitely help.
Judy
Claudia says
But I think I have to stay out of the weather – maybe allergies are making this worse?
Patricia says
I hate that for you Claudia… Being sick is absolutely no fun at all.
It’s nice to know spring is well on its way- regardless of how we feel.
I sure hope you get to feeling better.
Chocolate helps!
Claudia says
I’m ready to start feeling better, Pat. I am, as they say, so over this illness!
Chris k in Wisconsin says
So sorry you are still feeling yucky. Our leaves are all just about out. Prob about 90%. But, there is so much pollen floating around! It settles on everything. I bet that doesn’t help you at all.
The coughing is always the most terrible part of it. And then I always ache for several days from it. Feels like you were punched in the gut. Oh, what fun.
As hard as it is, pushing it too soon makes the healing take that much longer. Exasperating!! (Esp when it is nice out.)
Thankfully, we have many nice days ahead in the months to come. And I bet there are many more mowings ahead, too!!
Claudia says
Yep. Muscles ache. Back aches….it’s just messy and yucky and exhausting, Chris.
Jane Price says
Haven’t you heard—-cupcakes cure colds, allergies, etc. You just have to eat enough!
Claudia says
Exactly, Jane! (That means I might have to eat even more!)
Barbara says
Cupcakes are the best cure-all. Don did good!
Claudia says
He sure did, Barbara!
Shari says
I actually thought Broadchurch was only the first season. I loved it and it ended with finding out who the killer was. I started to watch Season 2, but it just wasn’t the same, so I think I’ll stop with Season 1. My latest obsession is Call the Midwife. It is so good. Why is it that British television is so good and so different from American TV? Hope you feel better soon.
Claudia says
I think the second season of Broadchurch ventured a bit into Soap Opera territory. I still found it interesting and I really like the way everything was resolved in the end. But it definitely wasn’t of the same quality as the first season. I agree about British television, although I’ve seen some pretty bad shows when I’ve visited in the past!
