It has rained and rained and rained and is still raining this morning. We got about 3 inches overnight. It’s some storm that came up from the Gulf, but we were already drenched here and definitely did not need more. Who would have thought that a week before Christmas we’d be getting rain instead of snow? And – at least through January 1st – there is no snow on the horizon.
I’m still a bit under the weather but I’m definitely feeling better than I was. Don is also feeling much the same. We were as sure as we could be that we didn’t have Covid, but we ran a test last night anyway. Negative.
We just feel crappy, that’s all.
I wasn’t sure where to put the putz houses this year. Their former space was on top of the music cabinet which is now upstairs, having been replaced by Blythe headquarters. I put them on the bookshelves, but their sweet colors were lost among the colorful book jackets.
So I moved some things off the little spinet desk and here you go. I’m always tempted to start looking for more of them when I see them here and on various IG accounts. But I didn’t do any antique shopping this year, so I haven’t added to the collection.
This seemd like an appropriate place for this little guy.
I’ve sold a few smallish pieces of aqua McCoy, but only a few. It’s my favorite color and I’m going to hang on to it. Activity in the Etsy shop has stopped for the last week. I suppose no one is buying at the last minute for Christmas. Plus, my shop has less McCoy than it had. There are other beautiful pieces including an incredible Roseville vase. I’m considering adding a few more pieces of McCoy.
I’ve been working on a beautiful puzzle and expect to finish it today or tomorrow. I’ll share a picture of it then.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

Those putz houses are so sweet! You have just the right amount!
Hope you and Don feel better and enjoy your cozy home – reading and doing puzzles even if it rains outside!
Claudia says
It just stopped raining and I can actually see blue sky!
Stay safe, Ellen.

Glad you and Don are feeling better! We’re getting a lot of rain here now, too, since about 3 am. I’m glad I don’t have to drive anywhere today! I love the variety of your Putz houses! Enjoy your puzzle!
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Barrie!
Stay safe.

glad you and don are starting to feel better … keep going! also glad you tested and don’t have covid.
sounds like the weather is continuing to say “take it easy and keep healing”, too.
those putz houses are adorable. as are that very sweet, loving moment between scout and riley (in that glad-you-caught-it photo) and the drawing of little miss scout (that’s by shanna, right? beautiful)!
your decorations for Christmas and every day look wonderful. enjoy them all, the puzzle, a book …
sunny and breezy here. felt good this morning when i swept up the empty peanut shells that earl and burl left behind (though i would happily take the rain from you if i could) .
thankfully am ready for Christmas here, with presents mailed last week (always a relief). just need to wrap some presents for family members here and do the grocery shopping. my mother’s baked spaghetti and apple pie are on the menu.
hope you, don and everyone else have an easy day. stay safe.
kathy

Thanks so much, Kathy.

We are trapped up here on the hill. Trees and flooding on either end of the road. 61F. Does not feel like December in NWCT!
Hope you feel better soon. Everyone I know, including my husband and I, have had respiratory illnesses. I’m blaming it on the mold from this awful cloudy, rainy weather but what do I know?!
Hoping my last Amazon gifts make it to my house by Friday. Grands will be here on Saturday. My own fault for not keeping an accurate list of who has what…
Claudia says
It doesn’t feel that way here, either!
Yes, mold, for sure, and we have a ‘wet’ basement due to this house being built in 1891.
Stay safe, Betsy.

LOVE the putz houses, especially the orange one. Cody Foster had an orange one out this year (with a poodle out front) but no way can I afford him. Each of your houses has its own personality-individuality.
Stay well! Long story, but our car battery died on the night we were out looking at holiday displays in neighborhoods. Nice lady (a thoughtful stranger!) ran my husband home in her car so that he could get our other car to jump the dead one. She revealed that her raspy voice was because she and her wife were trying to get over a bad case of Covid at Thanksgiving when they had gathered. So, we figured, from what she told us, that she was maybe out ten days from feeling the worst of it but hopefully still no contagion. (This, after my husband had been doing that traveling out of state with possible other exposure to virus. Two tests so far negative; we’ll do another one today to be on the safe side because of him sharing a front seat with the kindly woman coughing her head off.)
Rain heading for dark-skies-this-morning Southern Calif, too, today and all week. Is gonna wreck a lot of people’s outdoor holiday displays. (Some people have already taken theirs down. My husband covered all of his electrical connections at the extension cords for the holiday lights (cords on the front lawn, laying and draping all over the place) with overturned buckets held down a by brick to prevent a ‘short’.
We need the rain, unlike you!
Claudia says
It’s cheaper to find and buy a vintage putz house (the real deal) than anything Cody Foster. I’m not a fan. They copy other people’s designs. In fact, they stole a design of someone I follow on IG (I know this from when I worked in a shop that had an entire floor devoted to Christmas.)
People have outdoor holiday displays here and they manage to survive the rain.
Stay safe and healthy, Vicki.
Donnamae says
Sorry to hear about all the storms. We’ve got lots of wind today, but sunny skies….we sure could use 3 inches of rain Mother Nature…hint hint.
I had never heard of putz houses until I read about them from you. They are cute. Looks like they fit perfectly where they are now.
Glad to hear both you and Don are feeling better. Age old question….what is it about holidays that always bring on colds, flu, etc? It seems like it has become so hard to stay healthy these days.
Enjoy your puzzle! ;)
Claudia says
They’re all quite old – from the 40s and 50s.
I think the weather, being tired and exhausted, and the seasonal changes have a lot to do with it.
Stay safe, Donnamae.

dear Claudia/Don — glad you do not have covid — last Thu 12/14 youngest daughter came home from work early b/c she was feeling so bad–headache, sore throat, stuffed head, etc., went to Kro Little Clinic, had negative covid test — next day feeling even worse, tested w/home test — was positive. was told to isolate for 5 days (kind of hard to do when young child to care for). But this a.m. was feeling a little better so we just hope she continues to improve — our family get-together is scheduled for 12/24 so we are hoping no one else gets this. we are having snow squalls all a.m. — mostly melting on contact but overnite is gonna be very cold so roads will probably be bad in the morning, winds are terrible. I think winter has arrived !! stay safe/healthy AND Merry Christmas in case I get lost in the shuffle around here, haha!!!
Claudia says
If feels like winter has not arrived here. The temps have been all over the place. We may have some snow showers this week but they only last minutes and all the snow disappears.
Hoping your daughter recovers quickly, Linda.
Wendy T says
My 96-yo Mom is recovering from her first COVID illness. She had fever and a sore throat but now it’s the coughing. It may mean we can’t see her Xmas.
We’re girding for a few days of heavy rain. Have a restful day.
Claudia says
Oh no! I’m so sorry your mom has been ill, Wendy. Bless her. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery and for a Merry Christmas.
Stay safe.

Oh, Claudia, I have always loved looking at your Putz houses. I have just a few and I love every one.
I am glad to hear that you & Don are feeling better. This surely is the time of year for everyone to begin getting sick. Then everyone tumbles in together for the Holidays, and by about Jan 3 or so, more and more catching it….then school starts and the pot bubbles with “stuff” from all over the place. How I wish that Jan and Feb would go by as quickly as do June and July!!
We had an incredibly windy day today and COLD!! The first cold temps really thus far, and only supposed to last til around noon tomorrow and then back into the 40’s for the rest of the week and 50*+ on Christmas Day. But no snow in the foreseeable future!!!!!!!!! And you KNOW my feeling on THAT!! :-) May both of you continue feeling better every day! Take care.
Claudia says
I’m glad for you that there is no snow, Chris! I’m sure you are really enjoying that!
(I would like a little snow for Christmas but that is not going to happen.)
Stay safe!

You got the weather that passed over us in Florida Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was very dreary and Sunday was very windy. Thankfully today was a beautiful, but cool, day.
Claudia says
I will be labeling 2023 The Year of Rain.
Stay safe, Bridget!

I love the Putz houses — a good spot for them. And aqua is my favorite color too — I can see why you are holding onto that one.
A crazy week here. Snow yesterday (none predicted) and temp drop. We’re supposed to have rain for Christmas. Hope every day you are feeling better!
Claudia says
Still struggling a bit. I felt much better yesterday, today? Not so much.
It’s the crazy weather we’ve been having.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Kay in SE WI says
Love the putz house village. I’m a sucker for little houses and making little groupings all around the place. Hope the rain has passed you by now. Right now they say rain on Xmas Day for us. Pooh.
Take care,
K.
Claudia says
Rain is NOT what most people want on Christmas. Ah, well.
Stay safe, Kay.
