A little bit of wonder for you this morning.
Look closely. A small fawn is investigating one of my potted plants. A beautiful little baby.
Mama saw me as I stood in the kitchen taking this picture, so they were soon gone. I posted it on IG and my neighbor commented, wondering if they were the same pair that had been hanging out near her house. As they took off toward her meadow, I think they are.
Oh, such sweetness.
This morning the Carolina wren pair that were scared off when the trailer dollhouse was knocked over and hanging by a thread, came back. (They had opted to nest across the street on my neighbor’s property. I could hear them singing every day.) They were clearly scouting for their next nest. They sang on the porch and flew around, concentrating on my purple hanging plant. Ummm….no.
Then a while later, they turned up on the maple tree and one of them went in and out of the trailer.
Dare I hope?
I keep having this urge to push the nesting material away from the opening to where it probably was before the house got tilted. But Don says to leave it alone, that the birds will fix it up if they want to nest there. He’s probably right.
All this and three bunny sightings – two yesterday and one this morning.
It’s going to rain today.
I donated three bags of books to the library yesterday and I’ll be donating more next week. I have SO many books around here, and I have no problems letting go of some of them. Many of them, of course, I would never consider donating. But I only have so much shelf space. Next up: some older decorating books that I have not cracked open in years. Reward: others get to enjoy them and I have more shelf space available.
I finished the Elizabeth George and have now started the next in the Slough House series by Mick Herron – Real Tigers. What a joy he is to read!
Don reinstalled a clothesline outside, and I hung the sheets out to dry last week. They smelled so fresh! Since rain is on the docket for today, I’ll wash them tomorrow so I can hang them on the line.
Stay safe.
Happy Sunday.

Its encouraging that you enjoy Mick Herron – I have a small stack of his early books in the Slough House series, but the friend who enjoys them and passes them on doesn’t always share my (perfect of course) tastes so I have been a bit leery.

They are excellent, great spy thrillers with lots of humor. Herron is a terrific writer.
Stay safe, Ceci.

animals are sweet (glad you saw them), especially the babies and ones with big brown eyes. saw a baby rabbit on a walk today. :)
hooray for reading/donating books … and keeping the extra-special ones. i will get to book-sorting and donating soon and look forward to that.
i can admit to jealousy about having a clothesline, but am glad you have one. :) clotheslines bring up very sweet memories of my family’s and those of my grandparents.
helping someone in my family with pre-move prep today. grateful to be able to do that.
otherwise taking it easy. grateful for that, too.
happy sunday. stay safe!

Thanks so much, Kathy.
Yes, I suspect most of us grew up with a clothesline in our back yards. I certainly did.
Stay safe.

Oh my gosh, I wish I had a clothesline. There is nothing like sheets dried outside. Coming from a family of six kids, we had several long lines on which we hung everything, weather permitting. I don’t think my grandmother ever had a dryer, and I can still remember when she had a wringer washer.
Such a cute deer. I have been seeing bunnies too.
Claudia says
For a brief time, my mom had my grandmother’s old wringer washer. I can remember it sitting in the basement.
Stay safe, Lynda.
Vicki says
Thanks for weighing in on the donating of books.
The fawn photo is precious.
I love that you have a clothesline!
Claudia says
Thanks, Vicki.
We’re enjoying having a clothesline again. We let it sort of fall apart the last few years.
Stay safe.

I was at a friend’s house in the country last evening, sitting on the deck. The birds were all around, making the most beautiful music. My friend has an app on her phone that identifies bird sounds and, sure enough, identified about ten birds in the area – just amazing.
Happy summer.

I’ve often wondered which bird app is the best. If you can find out which one your friend uses, I’d be most appreciative.
Stay safe, Anne.

Hey! We had wrens finally nest ! Yay! Too, too many bunnies here! We are to be in the upper 90’s on Tues & Wed. ugh. Sweet little deer! How was Don’s pic-taking day? Take care.
Claudia says
Yay! Our wrens were back on the porch last night, but I haven’t seen them this morning.
The Farmer’s Market is still very slow. I’m told it will pick up as more produce is available. Fingers crossed.
Stay safe, Chris.
Deb in Phoenix says
I love that you saw the deer, and especially the baby! We get lots of bunnies and quail in our yard. I love watching both of them. Oh yes the memories of my grandmas clothesline and her wringer washer in the basement. Getting ready to watch the next Jan. 6th commission. Letβs see what comes up today. Take care!
Claudia says
It was very interesting, Deb!
Stay safe.
Linda MacKean says
I love seeing the deer here in my neighborhood also. So sweet. Lots of great wild life around you. Enjoy your day. Hugs!
Claudia says
Thank you, Linda.
Hope you had a wonderful birthday.
Stay safe.

Biggest sigh. That fawn. You know, of all the deer I’ve seen, never a fawn and that one is so young and small. It’s just perfect in your secret garden area. Just the right touch. (Take it from me — watch where you step. Just sayin’…).
Good luck with the wrens. I just saw two wrens dissembling the nest inside the B&B that I saw them building one week before! Popping in the house and coming out with a mouthful of nest! I don’t know where they went but they seemed to have a plan!
Claudia says
We have deer on the property all the time. Believe me, I know. We also have bear scat at times. Yuck.
Now, what were those wrens doing, Jeanie? Keep me posted!
Stay safe.
