A Warmer Week Ahead and Egg Cups

April 14, 2025 at 8:04 am by Claudia

Well, the snow melted yesterday. It was a bizarre 24 hours here. Today will be warmer. I want to start buying plants for the pots that are on the porch and patio, but it looks like one day – Thursday – will have a low of 31 degrees. I think I could get away with buying some pansies, because they’re very hardy. But I’ll think on it today. Hopefully the forecast will change.

In the meantime, I can start clearing out some of the beds and begin cutting back the perennials from last year. I alway leave them in place over the winter so the birds and bugs have shelter and sustenance.

My best friend Laural is back in the hospital. I got a text from her son David yesterday. She has bacterial pneumonia and she’s being treated with antibiotics. She’s not up to talking, but I did text her as David said she’ll enjoy reading texts. Prayers for my dear friend of over 60 years.

Egg cups!

• A Fanny Farmer egg cup, marked in raised letters on the base. It’s very heavy and was made for Fanny Farmer by the Nelson McCoy company, which eventually evolved into McCoy Pottery. I see this cup out in the wild and the red paint is often damaged or missing. This one is in perfect condition,

• Love this cup – two dogs on either side of the cup, with a design on the rim which seems a bit Art Deco to me.

• I’ve already shown this one in another photo – that’s what I get for using older photos – but it’s a lovely cup with a mom and babies. The cup itself is lustreware.

• A walking ware egg cup.

• This cup was sent to me by a reader. It’s made from a Holland Mold, a mold that was meant to be hand painted and fired by the customer that bought it. It’s signed “L.H.” with the year ’58. It’s quite lovely and it’s also quite tall.

• An adorable bunny with the egg cup on his back.

• A Holt Howard rooster egg cup from 1961.

I’ll probably use two or more photos of the egg cups in each post this week. I may not get them all in before Easter, but I’ll do my best!

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

I have a pot of pansies sitting on my front step. So far they are looking so pretty!
I’m sorry to hear about Laural being back in the hospital. I’m glad you can reach out to her in texts. Hope she will be able to return home soon.
    Take care, Claudia.

I had to Google ‘Fanny Farmer’s as I thought it was a restaurant. Turns out it was a candy store, which makes me even more intrigued. That one, and all the other’s, are so fun to see. Thanks for showing them all.

Keeping good thoughts for your friend. Hope she feels better soon.

    I love pansies.

No, it was a famous candy company. I had many a chocolate from Fanny Farmer when I was young. Those egg cups – and I have three different issues of annual Fanny Farmer egg cups – were filled with chocolates and jelly beans.

      Stay safe, Barrie.

Sending good thoughts for Laural. And for your weather. We’re having the cool-down too and just hoping it’s warm and dry enough on Easter for the kids’ egg hunt. Cute cups today! That yellow chicken and the duck are my two faves today!

Sorry to hear about Laural….hope her stay in the hospital is a short one.

Very sunny , but windy today. Tuesday and Wednesday look to be perfect for outside work. Hope I can make a significant dent. There’s a lot to do, but I can only do so much at one time. It is hard getting older.

Your egg cups are so varied…I think that’s what I like so much about them. The one that a reader sent you has such a sweet face….and looks so joyful carrying his load.

    Enjoy your day! ;)

It turned a bit windy later in the day today. Wasn’t too bad when I was out there.

I love that duck egg cup!

      Stay safe.

I’m with Kathy hoping for swift healing (one can hope) and an end to hardships. Life is just not fair. I’m learning once again to appreciate each and every moment.

Sending sincere wishes of caring kindness to your friends. I may not know them, but they have become part of my life now.

    Hang in there.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
