A Wee Bit Restless

December 29, 2025 at 9:29 am by Claudia

I feel like I have just gone through an entire winter and it’s not even the end of December! It’s been snow, rain, wind, more snow, subzero temperatures, and more wind throughout December. We had 7 inches of snow the other day. Last night, we had freezing rain and now, rain. It’s icy and scary out there. We have to try to clear some of it today and salt what we can. Though it will reach 44 degrees today, the rest of the week the temps will never get above 30°.

And, to top it off, we have a high wind warning for tomorrow.

I AM OVER IT.

The tree is beginning to dry out, but not enough that we have to take it down. You know me, I want to keep it up as long as possible. However, I’ve already removed the mini Christmas trees from the dollhouses and I might remove the trees from the girls’ cubbies. We’ll see. Just a little ‘cleaning up.’ And I’m reorganizing the closet in the studio, which is where I store all of that stuff.

All the other trees – the white one next to my chair in the den, the blue green tree up in the studio – will stay for a while longer.

I’m trying to stay in a mellow holiday mood, but I find I’m restless. I suspect that’s because of December’s weather which has kept us tethered to the house. You know I’m a nester and I love being in my little cottage, but I do miss the freedom to go outside and mow the lawn or putz in the garden.

I will have to adjust my attitude because it’s only December  and that means there are 3 more months of winter yet to come.

Last night, we watched The Holdovers, one of my very favorite movies. It takes place during the Christmas season. It’s a real gem, starring Paul Giamatti and directed by another favorite, Alexander Payne. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it highly. We’ve seen it a few times and found ourselves – once again – singing the praises of everyone involved. I love Paul Giamatti, who also starred in Sideways  – another Alexander Payne movie.

I hope you’re enjoying the holidays!

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

I understand that feeling of restlessness…it’s creeping in on me, too. It’s gotta be the weather…the rain, then the cold flash, followed by high winds and snow…it’s a lot.

Our tree is still up…but then we got a late star. While the tree will remain…there are some things I am willing to put away til next Christmas. It’s starting to feel cluttered in here lol.

Movies and streaming series have been nice diversions in between gatherings with family and friends this holiday season. Hope you’re enjoying the holiday season as well. ;)

Yes, I’m getting tired of the clutter, too.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

Winter is here too. Today we’re having a cyclone-bomb (that’s what they are calling it but it isn’t official yet) . The winds were up to 49mph last night. It’s supposed to continue until early tomorrow morning. Needless to say, we’re staying inside. We aren’t getting too much snow yet but it’s blowing so hard I don’t think the snow could settle. The waves are huge so it is beautiful despite feeling on edge. I’m hoping that the power will stay on. There are a lot of trees down but not in our immediate area and I’m thankful for that. Hang in there…..this can’t last forever.
    Love,
    Eileen

Wow! I think we’re getting that cyclone tomorrow. I read it’s moving east and we’re supposed to have high winds. It does put you on edge, doesn’t it?

Stay safe – Merry Christmas, dear Eileen.

I had a lovely Christmas with my family and then got sick. Yep. What is it with me and after Christmas getting the crud. This one is mild but lingering. So just staying home safe and warm, resting and knowing I’ll feel better one of these days. I’m restless to get my Christmas put up but no energy yet, it will happen I tell myself. Take care.

It sounds like you are getting what we got — but we didn’t get all your snow. Yet. Some is predicted and it’s snowing now but we’re only due for a few inches. But ice, freezing rain, rain in the basement, some snow already — yup. And weird temps too. I’m over it.

But not over Christmas. Rick gave me duct cleaning for Christmas and I told them they couldn’t do it till February till everything was down and put away. So, the trees will come mid-January and we’ll go from there. I’m not relishing moving books and china from heavy cabinets to get to the vents!

Enjoy the twixtmas time. Believe me, 2026 will be here before we know it.

I know. Let’s hope 2026 brings about a removal. In another house, which is white.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

icy driveways, sidewalks and roads are awfully dangerous and just plain awful to deal with. sorry you have them. please stay safe!

good luck with the restlessness, too.

have some icy spots here (thankfully not like a sheet of ice, just spots), along with bitter strong winds at 12 degrees, after a couple of beautiful snow squalls yesterday. walked in the mall this morning, then very carefully and slowly walked down the trail to feed earl and the birds. glad to be inside now.

hope you, don and everyone else have what you need and stay safe.

I’ve been sick since Saturday evening – I tested positive for Flu A. I got a helpful self-testing kit from Walgreens that tests for Flu A+B and Covid 19 – all in one test. Very convenient. I finally saw the doctor today and have start the medicine so I hope I am better soon.
I had a rough Christmas this year. Instead of peaceful and joyous, I felt very stressed out. I’m glad you and Don can stay safe in your cottage and enjoy your movies.

Claudia, I’m right there with you. At this point in December, the sun seems to be working half-days, and my motivation has followed suit. I keep telling myself I’ll get things done…and then suddenly I’m horizontal under a blanket wondering how it got dark again. Winter has me operating on hibernation mode. Your post hit home.

    Stay warm,

We were unseasonably warm (Near 80 degrees) now were cold and windy. Can’t put up my summer clothes yet. Perhaps they’ll stay out all winter. I still have my tree up. It’s still good, not dropping needles. I always hate taking it down, but we’ll take it to the yard and decorate it with things for the birds. That’s always lots of fun. Happy New Year.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
