One of my favorite movies is ‘You’ve Got Mail.” I never tire of watching it (especially for Kathleen Kelley’s apartment – be still my heart!) One of my favorite moments is when Kathleen talks about seeing a butterfly on the subway. I find it so magical and wonderful.
The other day, I was doing some chores outside. I mowed a bit, pulled some weeds, did some gardening, the usual summertime chores.
A monarch butterfly followed me everywhere.
I’d be mowing and there she would be.
Later on, while mowing another section of the yard….hello butterfly!
Pulling weeds? Ms. Monarch followed me.
All throughout the afternoon, she accompanied me, flitting, flying, landing oh-so-briefly, here, there and everywhere.
I briefly thought of trying photograph her. But she was too quick for me.
And something told me that our journey together was too magical, too special to do that. I wouldn’t be in the moment. I wanted to simply feel the delight and wonder of her presence.
So I did just that.
Have you ever had an experience like that? Whether it was with a butterfly or some other creature? if you have, please share it! I find that those special connections with nature restore my soul.
(The photo is of an Eastern Swallowtail butterfly. I don’t have one of a Monarch. That makes the whole thing even more magical!)
Happy Wednesday.

That`s my favourite movie, too. So much eye candy, her apartment, the shop; I love it! By the way, wasn`t the butterfly on her way to buy a hat? I`ll just have to watch it again, lol!

Once long ago . . . the eighteen foot open boat was beached and as I started to the stern I felt I was not alone. I turned toward the bow and was astounded to be looking into the large soulful eyes of a sea lion. We were both frozen for what seemed like an eternity as the realization came to me she had to be enormous beneath the waterline. The minute I said hello she just vanished. There was no ripple nor wake. Nothing but glassy still water all around me. It’s an enchanting encounter I will carry with me to the end of my days.

Great encounter! I have had a few and have recorded some in a my “Joyful Journey of Faith” – a book but only one personal copy. One day I came upon a dragonfly sitting on a pinnacle of an iron trellis. I hurried into the house, got my camera all the time thinking the dragonfly would be gone. Upon returning not only was it still there another one had joined it on the next pinacle! After getting a picture and enjoying the experience I walked around to the other side of my house and just as I arrived a mockingbird landed on my side street sign – the street name? Mockingbird Lane! Got a picture of that and rejoiced in the encounter and felt personally blessed by God.

Maybe it was someone you love, coming to visit you. What ever it was a magical moment it sounds like.

That apartment is my favorite movie setting of all time. I also watch it over and over just to see that adorable space! There are so many wonderful quotes from that movie…”a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils” is one of my favorites!
How wonderful to have a “movie moment” in your own backyard and to actually be able to live in the moment and enjoy it!

Gosh Claudia, that is my all time favourite movie…I survived through the last year and the year of my divorce watching Kathleen Kelly…I still cry when I watch it…and even shed a tear or two when I stumble across a butterfly……

When this happens, there is such a sense of connection, I think it’s for a reason. Of course I can’t come up with the reason, but I am sure there is one.
Life is simply full of wonderful surprises.

Every year I have barn swallows in the houses in my garden. Often they will perch close to where I am weeding and let me talk to them- watching me like they know what I am saying to them. I know they really don’t understand-but isn’t it amazing when nature interacts with us? I love to see their little head turn to the side as if they are thinking about the story I am telling them :) Have a wonderful day Claudia ♥

Claudia, I too had a butterfly moment. In October, 2010 my mother passed away and we had a grave side service as she had requested. It was a beautiful sunny morning and just before the service ended a butterfly flew over her casket and among those seated just darting around happily. I knew right then that Mother was at peace and wanted the same for all of us in attendance. It was a perfect moment in time that I will never forget.

Bees. I of course blogged about it. The upshot being I got too much into their space near their hive and was escorted from the scene. Later that evening, a bee bumped me on the arm in the same way as by the beehive but let me be when I protested I was all the way over on the other side of the property!

It’s funny but I find myself drawn to movies because of the sets. I love Kathleen’s apartment but my favourite is the house in Practical Magic. I just want to move in.
As to your friend, mine is a bumble bee. At first, I thought I was imagining things but almost every time I go out in the garden, I am accompanied by a little bumble bee. He stays with me when I am weeding or watering or just sitting outside. He hovers around and I talk to him. My mum has noticed this too and will say “your bee is back to visit”. He will sit on the arm of my chair when I’m outside. Very strange but kind of nice because I do feel we have some kind of rapport. J

This is such a beautiful post, Claudia. It makes me think of all the times I say I wish I had my camera instead of just living and breathing in that moment. We all need that.

Her apartment is just the cutest place, makes it even more special in watching that sweet movie. And I agree with Julie, the house in Practical Magic is wonderful. Last year I had a magical moment outside when I was watering and a hummingbird came round and darted into the spray of the water, when I moved he followed me, so I sprayed him lightly, and this went on for about five minutes. I was laughing out loud as it was something I realized I’d probably never experience ever again.

I absolutely adore that movie. I have had experiences where a butterfly will follow me around in the garden too. Makes it so magical.

For some reason, the robins in my back yard this spring seemed unusually accepting of my presence. The best time, though, was when the fledgling robin perched on the rail of a chair and stayed within feet of me.

I love all the wildlife that’s in my overgrown back garden! Hummingbirds and butterflies and dragonfiles and now, this year, frogs! They’re so cute.
I ADORE Kathleen Kelley’s apartment! I have several screen grabs from the movie that I save and look at from time to time for inspiration.

What a lovely moment, Claudia…sounds like you took full advantage of making a memory, too! So much beauty in nature surrounds us, if only we take the time to notice. Beautiful post!

I had a butterfly land on my shoulder in New Orleans. I was sitting on a bench, reading, and he/she just fluttered over on the breeze and landed on my shoulder and stayed there for the longest time. A friend was with me and took a photograph. I’ll post it to show you!

I actually had a red cardinal that showed up immediately after my father passed away. It would visit me and sit on the deck or fence and just look at me like it was “really looking at me”! I felt it was a sign from my dad and that he was keeping watch. It gave me so much comfort. It has been 12 years and a 60+ mile move away from where we used to live and he still comes to visit. ~Hugs, Patti
