Shall we walk across the Brooklyn Bridge? I’ve always wanted to. Since my hotel is only about a 10 minute walk from the bridge, this seemed to be the perfect time. Here we go:
Lots of people on the walkway – there’s a lane for walkers and a lane for bikes.
A photo shoot. Don’t you think that model was cold? It was extremely windy up there, so windy that it was sometimes hard to hold my camera steady. On the way back, the model was still there but she had on a white parka.
The Empire State Building on the left and over to the right, my favorite, The Chrysler Building.
All in all, it took about 50 minutes, but I was walking at a brisk pace. It really is a magnificent experience. The views are incredible.
I hopped on the subway and traveled to the Upper East Side to visit this shop:
It is full of wonderful miniatures – some very, very, very expensive. I didn’t buy anything but I sure loved looking. Back down to Union Square for lunch at one of our (Don and I) favorite restaurants, Zen Palate.
I stopped at the Barnes and Noble and checked out the magazines:
There it is!
The show is in really good shape. We’ve had 2 preview audiences and the response has been wonderful. 3 more previews and then Opening Night on Saturday. I have to find some shoes to go with my dress – basic black, of course.
I love these strolls we’re taking!..
And Claudia, I got the scarf today.. it is absolutely beautiful, even more so than it appeared on your blog. Thank you! Sending an envelope out your way tomorrow. I love it.
I am so enjoying your trip to New York. We went there for our honeymoon almost two years ago and we loved it! We ate dinner at a little restaurant where we could see the Brooklyn Bridge and then when it got dark we crossed the bridge. When we got about halfway there my husband recited his wedding vows again. Thanks for sharing your photos and bringing back such a wonderful memory.
beautiful pics, claudia. the sky looks so brilliantly blue from the bridge.
the tiny doll house looks like trouble, my favorite kind of trouble.

Thanks for the trip across the Brooklyn Bridge, what a view. Have fun shopping for your black shoes. susan
Hi Claudia,
Enjoying your photos of NYC. My son lives in Brooklyn (Park Slope); I’ve always wanted to walk across the bridge…now you’ve encouraged me to actually do it. I would have lived browsing in that little miniature shop too. So glad your show is coming along well…bet you’ll look beautiful on opening night!
Enjoy,
Cheryl at My Sister’s Cottage
Hello Claudia,
Yes! I have to go to Brooklyn!

Hi Claudia,
Thanks for taking me across the Brooklyn Bridge! It’s really fun to see the bridge from your point of view and seeing how you spent your day.
hugs
Sissie
Hi Claudia, It looks like you are enjoying your stay in NYC! I used to work on Wall St. and then in the Trade Center (tower 2), and we lived in Brooklyn Heights. I’ve walked that bridge many times and it is always exciting. Sometimes there was a transit strike, sometimes the subway was slow, visitors in town..many reasons. If you have time and have never been, go to the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights for the classic view of downtown Manhattan! It also sounds like you are very happy with the show! Linda
Love your photos. I have never been to N.Y. So enjoyed your trip.
How exciting to walk across Brooklyn Bridge! It must have been so invigorating. I felt sorry for that model doing the photo shoot. They make good money but I think they earn it. Such a demanding profession. Probably a lot of us are wishing we could have browsed through that miniature shop with you. However, I don’t think I would have come out empty handed. You must have a lot of willpower. Thanks for the stroll! If I ever win big (I’d have to buy tickets) I would love to go to New York City and see the sites.
I’m enjoying seeing the city with you. Such a change from your life in Mockingbird Hill Cottage. It sounds like you’re having lots of fun.
My great-grandfather owned a store in NYC, near the site of the Brooklyn Bridge. When it was built, he was given a commemorative item, and my brother has it. It’s a huge, brass horn of plenty. Very unusual. I guess it was signified something in those days. It’s neat to see your pictures of the bridge. I’d love to walk it myself some day.
Thank you for sharing your trip~wonderful photos!
My how I am enjoying strolling and exploring NYC with you. I have never walked and seen it so up-close as you allow. No surprise that your play is doing so well. Buy new shoes??? You poor thing…I cannot imagine such a task! Wish we could be part of opening night…
Thanks so much for the tour of the Brooklyn Bridge!! Your photos were wonderful… gave me a better idea of what it looks like up close, and the scale of it. (It was dark when they showed it in the movie “Kate & Leopold” lol)
Ah… the Statue of Liberty… I don’t know why I’m so taken by it when I see a photo of it. I guess I imagine my ancestors coming through Ellis Island and all the sacrifices they made to start a new life here in The States. I must see it in person someday.
Thanks so much for taking me along in your NYC adventures~ I’m lovin’ it!
Hugs,
Jill
Oh I adore NYC!!!! Lucky girl you. xoxo blessings
How fun but it looks cold!! Thank you for taking us with you on your travels around the city!!
Funny, our devotions
at a church meeting
last night centered
around the story of
the building of the
Brooklyn Bridge! Do
you know it? If not,
I’d highly recommend
that you google it for
inspiration : )

Hi Claudia, I love your New York posts, I feel like I am there. Thank you. Good Luck with your show. Have a wonderful New York week. Hugs, Terri
How fun! I wish I could do this. It looks like it was nice, other than the wind. That poor model! I hope they paid her well! Congrats on the show, I bet you can’t wait for opening night!
Goondness, seeing Lady Liberty standing there… so beautiful. Thank you for the walking tour, I enjoyed it. I see the magazine! It must be exciting, a picture of your studio is in there…
YOUR feet deserve something good from that bakery.
I hope opening night will be huge!
I loved walking with you across the bridge. I felt sorry for that poor model.
I loved the photo with the Statue of Liberty and the one with the Chrysler Building. Stunning.
Can’t wait for the next trip with you!
Deanna :D
It is so fun to take this little trip with you! I do hope that all the walking also allows you to indulge in more of those Magnolia bakery goodies!
What a beautiful day you had. But, I’m spying a mag on the rack there that peeked my interest. Blanket Handbook. I’m going to be looking for that one for sure. Enjoy the rest of your NYC visit.
What wonderful things you are seeing and doing! Thanks for sharing it with us westerners:)
Rene
THANKS for the congratulations…I *love* being a grandma!
gorgeous photos again Claudia! The views from the bridge are stunning- although I have to say that I don’t think I could ever walk across it without crawling on my hands and knees- my goodness it’s a long way to the water!
Claudia, You are one of the three winners of the Anniversary drawing on my blog. Pleas e mail me so that we can discuss preferences.
Congratulations!
Casey
Claudia, I’ve really enjoyed seeing NYC through your lens. It is such a beautiful city.
I chuckled at your skunk post. We had the same thing this weekend. I read that skunks come out of hibernation at least once during the winter to spray. This must be the time that they are all coming out to perfume their territories!
Please let me know how to go about ordering one of Don’s CDs! I’m pretty sure you have my email.
Thanks, Claudia. Good luck with Opening Night – and finding the perfect shoes!
Donna
Claudia, these images are lovely. The model on the bridge is surely cold. I am glad the play is going so well. ♥O
This has been totally FUN!! The first few pics remind me of the movie Kate and Leopold (one of my fav all timers…Hugh Jackman…drooooool). Having never been to NY City, this really puts things into perspective.
xoxo
Becky
Good luck on Saturday!!!
All your little shops remind me of The Shop Around the Corner in You’ve Got Mail. It’s the New York I’ve alway imagined but not the one we usually see (think Law and Order). All your posts so far have been absolutely delightful and that hot chocolate – oh my! I think my favorite was probably the colonial church near Ground Zero. I just love history. Thank you so much for these last few posts.
Claudia, I absolutely LOVE your blog! Your cottage is so quaint and charming and I love getting to see all of your fabulous finds. I have thoroughly enjoyed you taking us on a tour of the streets and shops and sites of NYC. I’ve never been and I’d so love to go one day. But I really appreciate being able to live it all thru you! Hope you feel better soon!
Love all the images from the big apple….sorry I am trying to catch up….been a little ill these last few weeks…love, love the tour!!!!
I would love to see the tiny doll store, OMG, I think my heart skipped a beat!!!
Hugs,
Margaret B
