Adventures in NYC: View from Rehearsal Room

February 18, 2011 at 7:18 pm by Claudia

This is what I see as I sit and watch the actors work through The Merchant of Venice.

The hustle and bustle of 42nd Street – along with the architectural beauty of the building in the center photo. Boy, they don’t make them like that anymore, do they? The wedding cake-like layers building up to the top with that fabulous glass globe. The clock(s) – I haven’t seen the other sides – I wonder if there is a clock on each side? The stone carving…I love these older Manhattan skyscrapers.

At the end of next week, I will stay in the city during dress rehearsals, preview performances and opening night. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t get home until 2 or 3 in the morning! Hopefully, I will be able to grab some time to take more photos for you. It really is an amazing city. After opening, I have a 10 day break until I fly to Chicago for 3 days. The play is touring in Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles. The theater in Chicago is much bigger than any of the other venues, so I will be along to make sure all the actors can be heard.

I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow, so I’ll sign off.

Visited the city recently. she welcomed me with open arms. My kids were in such awe of all the people and lights of Broadway. I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed. could it be that after 16 years…that I am a suburbanite? Yikes! ;o) Blessings, Joanne

I had not ever been to NYC until just a few years ago and I really loved all of it. The vitality, the architure and the different neighborhoods. My favorite is definitely the Chrysler building! Have a fabulous week, a hugely successful opening and run. How exciting for you NYC and Chicago!! Enjoy the “ride”…

Hold on one second.. You are coming to Shy-town. That would be a big adventure into the city, but could be fun. I’ll have to give it some serious thought and see what theater this is at. Looks like a beautiful day in NYC.

Glad to hear you are stay in the city.

Weather is getting better here, just so you know. But, do check in with a native before packing, as it can change on a dime.

    Have a fun weekend,
    Kate

Claudia your life is full of so many great experiences. For a girl from Idaho, it seems like a world away. Isn’t it funny that if I met you somewhere I may even be a little shy to approach you? hehe But because I know you here, you are just a great blogging pal. Still, you have a very full life it seems.
Have a wonderful time in NYC.
    hugs to you…

I’m so glad to have a bloggy friend that can take me on her adventures to places I’ve never been~ but hope to go to someday. Thanks so much for taking us along with you!

    Hi Claudia,
I would love to know more about what you do as an acting coach. Do you train the actors how to speak with certain voices or accents? Sorry to sound so stupid, but I would love to know more about your very interesting profession. I think it would be fun if you would take us through a work day with you.

I love the view from your building.
And yes, the old architecture is the best.

    hugs
    Sissie

Good morning talented lady! Your photos of the city are beautiful – it truly is a magical place.

We’re thinking about seeing Anything Goes at the Steven Sondheim theater in March – I have a conference at the Kimmel Center for two days so we’re making a mini vacation of it. Have you heard anything about it? Joel Grey is in it – I seem to like anything he does.

Keep safe and congrats on this wonderful production! Ciao, bella!

I could only dream of being in NYC and watching such a wonderful performance!!! How exciting to be able to drink it all in! I think what I love the most is you, you have this fabulous job and yet you are Sweet Claudia, who loves to crochet and read, makes miniatures and walks her dogs…….. and you blog, so even though I am far away in a frozen, wintery part of the North I can see and hear about the neatest things that I can imagine about seeing someday!!!
Have fun on your travels, I know I will watching and waiting for the next post!!!

    Claudia,

Got the magazine yesterday! What fun to be featured.

I grew up in NJ and my dad commuted to the city daily. We were there often. Broadway was a regular trip and we often ate at Sardi’s. Mary Martin as Tinkerbell in the 4th row was wonderful.

Your job sounds wonderful. You really should do a post on one of your days!

    Carol

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
