Advice, Please?

January 24, 2010 at 9:06 am by Claudia

I need your advice. My post about the bulletin board re-do ended with my wondering if it might just be too pretty to clutter up with ‘things.’ I still haven’t decided what to do. Yesterday, husband and I were chatting and he thinks I should hang it on a wall in the living room as a piece of art. Hmmmm. The thought of sticking a thumbtack or pin in this is a little daunting. If you would be so kind as to comment with your thoughts on my dilemma…I would be most grateful. Please?

I think it would make a beautiful piece of ‘art’ hanging as is! Or you could use it as a place to showcase just one large-ish sepia photograph. Or a small collage of sepia prints.

    It is lovely!

It is beautiful! Maybe you can use that one as art and make another one to use?

I think you could use it as art or stick a pin in it, either way you are in a win-win situation. If it gets too messed up you can always change the sheet music and start again.
    luv you,

I agree with hubby, honey. Piece of art. Now go make a bulletin board for sticking pins in and hang that one as a work of art that it is. It’s gorgeous!

I agree with Hubby that it should go in the living room. It does look like art. I would make another bulletin board. More fun that way anyhow, Claudia, because it’s another creative project! :-)

It is a beauty, and I can understand why sticking pins in it would be daunting.
But this is a personal taste thing. If it were me, I’d pin favorite things (photographs, ribbons, art, etc) onto it turning it into a piece of collage art. I love layers, and layers and layers in a collage, and the story it tells – and the pin holes would not bother me at all.
So, I hope I haven’t made the decision more difficult, Claudia. Again – it is about personal taste, and I know whatever you decide, it will be wonderful!
    :)

    A PIECE OF ART INDEED.
BUT……IF “YOU” REALLY WANT TO USE THIS FOR YOUR SPECIAL THINGS, THEN USE IT. LIFE IS TO SHORT.

How about putting the pins or whatever in the wood frame at the top (it is wood, isn’t it?), and dangling various levels of strands of appropriately colored vintage necklaces? Or something along those lines. Then you could see mostly the artwork behind it but lead the eye with a few choice pieces of something else you love that doesn’t detract from the lovely colors and beauty of the piece you’ve already created.

I like Lynn’s idea– some black & white photos and a pair of baby shoes would look so sweet. I think it would look more complete.

CLAUDIA L’ARTISTA, I WOULD GIVE A COAT OF POLYURETHANE AND USE IT AS A TRAY. I LOVE IT AND I WOULD STILL USE IT AS A BULLETIN BOARD, ALSO ADD RHINESTONES ON YOUR PINS. (THANK YOU RITA, MORE WORK!) CIAO

    OK. I’ve been thinking.

How about using it as art (you are right too pretty to stick pins in,
    but…..
how about 3 little ‘framed’ pieces across the center of it.

could just be an oval background of colored paper (using the same color as your frame), with anything you like on it.
    keys, little pictures, silhouettes….something simple.

Or actually use 3 little frames, square or rectangle, and do the same thing.

Love this idea! Maybe i will do one myself. =0)

Thanks for sharing. Be sure to let me know when you you finish it.

    blessings

I like the idea of using it to showcase either a special photo or a special piece from your favorite collection. That way it is both art and a display board.

What an adorable idea! I swear I find the craftiest people on blogs. I think I could see some pretty vintage valentines or “red” messages of love on your board. Some vintage jewelery pieces would be sweet as well. You did a great job on it!

Claudia, I didn’t read through all the comments, so someone may have mentioned this already. How about printing out an awesome saying and gluing it to the sheet music. It could be it’s own work of art.

Whatever you do it’s already wonderful . . . good luck!

Hi: It is so cute. I would use it as art. Another thing you might consider is just placing two or two notes on it at a time. Buy or make some cute pins. Maybe out of vintage buttons. Anyway, that’s my two cents for whatever it is worth. It is adorable. Blessings, Martha

Claudia it’s a beautiful piece, no doubt about it. I would consider it dynamic art, and stick pins in it with abandon. You can always change the sheet music as Mereknits suggested. Now I may have this attitude about using pretty as practical because I grew up with lampshade covers, and warnings about sitting on the “special furniture.” Whatever you decide my friend, will be perfect.

    XOSue.

    hi claudia,

i was just about to sign off when i saw your “advice, please?”

beautiful piece and of course i am swooning over the perfect color of the frame; love the decals, too.

i think it would be cool on its own as art. maybe even adding another layer to it or something. not sure. a piece of chicken wire or tulle, a light glazing, hmmm? don’t listen to me — i’m sleepy and about to munch a bowl of popcorn instead of going to bed. LOL

keep us posted. trust your instincts.

    Claudia,

I think if you found or have some vintage cello buttons (the intricate lacy ones) you could use them as tacks. Those buttons come in the neat vintage colors of the aqua, yellow, red, etc. I think those would be cute, but as far as actual images or cards to stick up there………hmmmmmmmm, that’s a tough one. Hope this helps.

    Hi Claudia,

I love it as a piece of art but I also think I might showcase one vintage photo in the center. Maybe change it out monthly or seasonally. Just an idea. But however you handle it I’m sure it will be beautiful.

the first post you shared with us i thought wow don’t use it as a memory board it should be a piece of art. i would hang it or just have on a flat surface leaning on the and create a vignette around it, if you should hang it put picture hooks on the back or d rings and hang it from them. let us know how you do use it.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
