After the Snowstorm

January 26, 2026 at 9:03 am by Claudia

The storm has passed.  It snowed all day long and into the night – lots of snow. My car is eompletely covered, as you can see. Don was just outside shoveling a path to the shed. He had to shovel in layers. So much snow fell! He estimates we have about 2 feet of snow. If you look to the left of my car, you’ll see the tops of two pylons. That’s now much snow fell!

I tried to go out and shovel a path yesterday, but the temperature was 8° with a wind chill of 7 below zero, so I quickly realized how dangerous it was out there and came back in. Our road is plowed, but it’s still not completely clear of snow. Digging out will take us a couple of days, at least.

The positives? It was so cold that the snow is a dry, soft snow. Thank heavens it’s not heavy and wet. And there was a state of emergency in our county and town – no one was to be on the roads except for essential workers. Everyone stayed home. And we never lost power. The trees weren’t impacted because the snow was dry and light.

It will be quite cold all week long, so there’s not going to be any melting for a while.

That’s the snow update. In the meantime, there has been another murder of an innocent American by ICE/Border Patrol. It’s horrific and heartbreaking. They must be stopped.  ICE must be abolished. And everyone involved must be prosecuted.

God bless the people of Minnesota.

That’s all for today. I’m trying to wake up enough to head outside and do what needs to be done.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

The snow makes a pretty picture but it still has to be dealt with. We got about as much here in Toronto. The charms of winter are beginning to wear very thin! Don’t overdo and make sure Don doesn’t either. Hugs, Elainr

glad that your snow is at least dry and fluffy … easier to move … and that you didn’t lose power. the snow is beautiful, but it is sure a lot. hope you can get back inside quicker than all that snow makes it look, and have an easy rest of your day.

angry and heartbroken by what’s going on in minnesota (and elsewhere) in the name of “law enforcement”. been taking some actions from here and will continue, also plan to do some up in minneapolis later this week.

stay safe and well and warm, everyone.

Take your time shoveling. We missed your storm but a storm hit a few days earlier. We are finally in the single digits. The roads have been plowed but are covered in a layer of ice. It’s too cold for the salt to work. They have sanded but you can’t see any pavement. I really feel sorry for the animals. For a couple of days we had coyotes on the ice in front of our house. I’m sure they were hungry and looking for water. I worry about our dog when they’re around but they looked so pitiful curled up on the ice in the middle of the day. Shouldn’t we be getting a “January thaw” soon? Stay warm.

That is a lot of snow, combined with the cold. Stay safe! It’s horrible what is happening in Minnesota. And Trump is swaying the narrative with his lies. All so destructive for our country.

dear Claudia/Don — we also got snow, freezing rain (which is the worst), very cold temps all this week (day and nite) so far still have electricity but many in SKy do not (more freezing rain down there)–might be a week before restored.

These horrible news stories have got to stop — I believe prosecutions should begin with the “Big” orange man, his goons and ,enablers — is this Nazi Germany from the 30s/40s?? sure sounds/looks/feels like it — all of us are in danger you know Hitler began slow but continuous becoming more harsh as he got braver w/o much resistance — history repeating itself?? very scary stuff.

Claudia, we are digging out from the same storm here and it really did feel endless. I am grateful the power held, but the cold has been brutal. And then to wake up to the news out of Minnesota-another innocent life taken it is devastating. It is hard to hold the weight of all of it at once. Thank you for naming it. Your clarity and compassion matter. Wishing you and Don warm, safety and a little ease as we all try to get through this week.

I’ve been thinking about you all weekend. Everyone in your area has been posting about the weather. I follow a few people in Georgia and they have ice. Yikes.

Please put a message out to anyone you know that may feel the need to protest at the ICE raids to NOT BRING A GUN. Its suicide! These people are not messing around, and everyone needs to be very careful and smart. I would be terrified and would NEVER bring a weapon. You will not win in that situation. PRAY!

Wow…that’s a lot of snow! Just dress warmly…and take lots of breaks. I’m glad to hear you didn’t lose power…that’s always a fear.

Yes…the horrors continue in Minnesota. My heart is breaking. This must be stopped….defunding would be a good start.

Take care when you go out and shovel. It’s still frigid here , but the snow went south of us…we escaped that part. Enjoy your day! ;)

Thank goodness you’re safe! It’s been on the news about the snow covering such a large area of the US including some of Texas.
Hope all of your readers are okay too.

Stay safe! We got some ice but it’s starting to melt today. Will refreeze tonight so we still have a few days of staying off the roads. None of us lost power so that is the good news. I’m devastated by the news from Minnesota. I need our country to step up and do something to stop all this. I am trying to stay off social media for my mental health today. I’ll go back to reading a good book, saves my life many days.

Glad the snow isn’t heavy and wet. Hope the storm is calming down. We had rain forecast for tomorrow but I’m laughing because it’ll last for less than an hour and bring less than 0.05” of rain. Next week, we expect high 60’s. I couldn’t even fathom temps as cold as what you’re having, Claudia. Stay warm and dry. And you both be careful shoveling that snow and walking outside.

So glad the snow is light. Yes, must be careful out there. I’m not supposed to go out (lung stuff) and that’s fine by me! Even the garage is cold! We didn’t get much snow — maybe a few inches over three days so easy to handle bit by bit (thank you, Rick!) But a half hour south of us, they got slammed.

Trying to decide if I should start my Three Pines puzzle, finish cleaning out the bookshelf for resale (and neatening) or dig into my book. We shall see!

I salute the brave and determined people of MN!
They (the federal government) all are morally bankrupt. Starting with the puke at the top and those who support him.

I can’t even imagine that much snow. Please be careful with how much you are doing! I am sickened by the shooting of another American citizen. When does this end?! I am tired of crying.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
