It’s a simple Christmas this year. The decorations are minimal – the tree, and few little things here and there. I’ve never been one to decorate our bedroom or anywhere else in the house except the living room area, anyway.
I like it this way.
We went to the grocery store yesterday and stocked up. We always get a vegetarian ‘holiday roast,’ aka veggie turkey, and we were worried they’d soon run out. And we found ourselves wondering if, given the current Covid numbers, we’d start ordering groceries again. The jury is still out on that, but it’s definitely a consideration. This morning, I have to drive Don to the eye specialist for his shot. After that, we’re in for the holidays. No errands. We’re going to kick back and relax.
I’ve ordered a few little gifts for Don online. The guitar is his big gift, but he has to have some things under the tree, right? I did it all through Amazon because time is a big factor and the last thing I want right now is to be out in the stores.
Sadly, there will be no white Christmas here this year. Ah, well.
I’m still napping in the afternoon and falling asleep in the evening while watching TV with Don. I keep thinking I should be back to normal now, but the six weeks on the film were something that I cannot adequately describe. They would have been hard for me at the age of 25, let alone 69. So I guess I just have to accept that and let my body tell me when it’s all caught up.
Okay. I have to go and make our second cup of coffee and then head out to the Don’s doctor.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

My decorations are fewer and fewer every year. I am just keeping the ones I really love. We do go wild with the outside lights though because so many people enjoy them. Your tree is beautiful.
Yes, listen to your body. It seems to take me forever to recover from a trip or an extra schedule. Luckily I can take all the time I need.
Enjoy your time of relaxation. You earned it.
Claudia says
Thank you, Kay.
Stay safe.

prayers for don’s eye shots to go well and be helpful.
glad you are stocked up with food, books, music … and can just stay home.
the trees are beautiful. :)
i have never, as an adult, done much decorating of my place for holidays due to the combination of having no great space to store things the rest of the year and depression. i have a wire tree of ornaments from my beloved parents and keep that out year-round, also wreaths from them that i put up in december. and i have a ceramic tree made by one of my grandmothers. i help members of my family decorate for Christmas and enjoy them there. and appreciate seeing the lights on other people’s houses when out at night, too. enough for me.
i need to get sewing!
hope you have a good day and stay safe, everyone.

I have just moved the presents down under the tree. Just a bit more cleaning, one more grocery shop and I will be all set. It is easier now that I am retired and have more time to do this. Enjoy your time at home!
Claudia says
Enjoy your holiday, Ellen.
Stay safe.
Vicki says
Your tree is gorgeous. It has just the right amount of ornaments on it. Magical!
Vicki says
It’s dark and dreary outside; rain threatening for days, coming in tonight. I think I have enough energy today to get the tree up and decorated; we need some pretty lights indoors here to brighten up the mood. Had certainly not intended to delay things so long. I can only remember one other year when I was THIS late getting a tree decorated for the holiday; I did it on Christmas Eve. It’s all okay; will just enjoy it to New Year’s now, rather than taking it down sooner. Whatever works!
Claudia says
Yes! You can have it out longer and that’s nice.
Ours may not last quite that long. Fingers crossed.
Stay safe.
Claudia says
Thank you, Vicki!
Stay safe.

A simple Christmas sounds good to me. As I get older I find less and less need for “stuff.” I seem to pare back the Christmas decorations a little every year.
I will have a houseful of people for Christmas. I enjoy it but it’s alot of work to cook a big meal and also putting my house back to normal after. We have 2 granddaughters here most days too, and they are good but it’s a disruption of our normal routine. I am dreaming of January when they go back to school and we go back to our routine.
It looks like we will have a green Christmas here too….
the only 2 days of the year I really would like a few snow flurries.
I’m glad you are all set and can enjoy a cosy Christmas with Don.
Take care
Claudia says
We might see a flurry or two on Christmas Eve but that’s not a sure thing. We’ll see.
Stay safe, Marilyn.

Your tree is absolutely enchanting! I remember your tree from last year, too. I took a whole day to decorate our house, but my husband was so tired that after lunch he lost interest and left.
I finished it up but didn’t have the energy to put up the tree. Oh, to be young again. Claudia, it sounds wonderful to be finished with your errands and time to rest. That’s a cool guitar for Don.
Merry Christmas Claudia and Don

Merry Christmas, Lottie!

Everything takes twice as long as it did 10 or more years ago. We are whittling down the To Do list and we take plenty of “let’s just sit for 20 minutes now” breaks as we do. I will be honest that I take more breaks than the hubs does.
Tomorrow will be a cooking day and final vac & dusting. Although cleaning before the chaos doesn’t make much sense!
Your post came into my email today like in olden days…same time & everything. Have a good rest of your day, and take care.
Claudia says
I know. The time for the post was right, but I’m not counting on it happening two days in a row!
Stay safe, Chris.

Your tree is beautiful. I did my Christmas shopping online too. The last gift arrived yesterday. I didn’t decorate much. I enjoy the lights on my tree the most and only put a few ornaments. My daughter in law decorated the mantel. When she was done she told me it was the same things we put up last year. With age comes a bad memory I wouldn’t have even known. She usually does a different theme each year. One year it was the Nut Cracker this year is more about Santa. Wishes for a Merry Christmas. Hope the New Year brings joy, peace and good health.
Claudia says
How lovely of your daughter-in-law to decorate the mantel!
Stay safe, Olivia.

Your tree is magical and so pretty with the lights reflecting! I say take those naps, just sit and savor. You’ve worked hard and missed much of the holiday season at home. Now is the time to find your own peace on earth. Stay well!
Claudia says
Yes. I’m still tired and last night I didn’t sleep well. So I’ll take it easy today.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

I love your tree, too. No decorations here in NM, but lots to enjoy at the neighbors and in the Plaza. No snow here either. Wouldn’t you know, I left the Bay Area and most or all of California is getting rain for days, more than has been seen in years.
Our traditions are a mix of my husband’s family’s version of Hanukkah & Christmas. The importance of sharing meals together & enjoying our favorite foods is our usual. One tradition is to go clothes shopping together after Christmas. A bit silly to think of it as a tradition.
Anyway, wishing those shots do their job and help Don and hoping your energy level improves with more time – as Chris or someone else said, enjoy those naps. XO
Claudia says
Have a lovely holiday in New Mexico.
Stay safe Martha.

I’ve read your blog for a long time but never commented. . . anyway, your tree is just beautiful! I believe we’re on the same page with decorating. . . we put up a tree, a wreath and a couple nativities on the piano and that was it. Presents are scaled back, too, and I like it this way. Your home is lovely and I love your decorating style. Anyway, have a Merry Christmas!
Claudia says
Thank you so much for commenting, Carrie! I so appreciate hearing from you.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

My decorations are much simpler each year and I’m enjoying them more. Less work for this old lady is better for me. My tree is the big thing I do and I love it so much. Wishing you a safe holiday season.
Claudia says
The same to you and yours, my friend.
Stay safe.
