This just about sums up life around here lately. We love baseball. The two teams I cheered for, the Tigers and the Giants, are going to be in the World Series. Huzzah! But now…who to root for? I was born in Detroit. So, that means the Tigers, right? But I love, love the Giants. They are fun and scrappy and slightly eccentric and have a lot of heart. But I was born in Detroit. A quandary. Don is wholeheartedly for the Giants. I’m not sure how it’s going to play out.
Last night, when there wasn’t a game to watch and the usual junk was on television, Don and I spent the evening playing Scrabble on my iPhone. It was neck-and-neck for a while there, but I ended up beating him by 3 points.
The crochet speaks for itself. I’m crocheting for the shop and that little exercise is ongoing. The photo is slightly grainy because we have more rain and gray skies and I am getting so sick of it I could scream.
As I tool around the many wonderful blogs in Blogland, I have to say this: If the design powers-that-be decided that chevrons in any shape or form were to be outlawed, I would be very happy. My eyes are glazing over. I’m over them. Not that I was ever a fan, really. I’ve never like that particular kind of geometric design, which may be why, when I was much younger and doing needlepoint, I never went for bargello, which is another form of a chevron. Or why I have never been a fan of Missoni prints. I’m sure someone will be offended by this, but don’t be. It’s just my personal taste, or lack thereof. I don’t like chevron anything and since it is definitely the hot look out there, I run the risk of encountering it countless times in the course of a day while cruising the internet.
Now someone who loves chevrons would probably look at my mix of checks and flower prints and cozy Christmas in Connecticut style and run screaming from the room. They would have every right to. I get it. Personal taste is a funny thing. Why do I have such a strong reaction to chevron anything? I don’t know, really, I just know I do.
I will be a happy camper when this trend runs out of gas.
And to assure you that I did do something about yesterday’s mess:
(Again: rainy, gray, lamp is on, sorry.)
See? I actually sorted through piles, threw things out and found other places to put some of this stuff that made a sort of sense.
And, to close:
By the way, I’m guest posting over at Cozy Inspiration today,
Happy Wednesday.
Vicki @ lifeinmyemptynest says
Home state roots will win out :-)
Hoping for a Tigers win tonight!
Claudia says
I’m torn, Vicki.
Lori says
Well, Claudia…..I have to confess that I have three bags full of things to shred. I have shoved them under our bed “for now”…lazybones that I am
I also do not like the Chevron pattern and never have. Give me a checkered pattern, floral print or ticking stripes anyday :)
Claudia says
Me, too, Lori!
Shirley says
Long time reader, not even a blogger, just a follower. For that large amount of paper, you might call your local Office Depot for pricing. Consider your time against the cost. I bank with a Credit Union, they have a truck 2X a year at local office. To me, worth looking into.
Claudia says
Thanks for that great idea, Shirley! I’m partial to Shirleys, you know. That’s my mom’s name!
TracyMB says
He he… I posted about not ‘getting’ the whole chevron thing too a while back. Checks and florals for me please. Could it be our…. maturity? :) Your cozy corner looks ready for some yarn scraps and hooks. Enjoy! :)
Claudia says
I have a feeling you’ve hit the nail on the head, Tracy. Maturity is the answer.
TracyMB says
Maturity sounds better than middle age. hee hee
bonnyk says
Claudia..Thank You! I am so over chevron’s that I could…well…SPIT…each time I see them. Maybe it is the age group (I am a couple of years older than you), but they are everywhere and I am bored with them! So glad that I am not the only one!
Claudia says
I do think it’s a generational thing, Bonny. But I say, enough already!
Connie says
It’s funny, but Cozy in Connecticut Christmas is a perfect description for your blog style. When I read that I thought, YES!, perfect.
BTW, sugar, Caroline, our GGD has a video out answering her mummy’s questions on the World Series. Her take is the Giants are going to win. LOL Her mum asks her 3 questions and all the answers are: Giants! She has no clue what it means; she’s just a malleable young chick, sugar. LOL But that side of the family is AVID, and I do mean AVID, Giants fans. Grandma Dolly even got to throw out a pitch one year. It was the highlight of her life. She’s the other grandma to our granddaughter. You can’t say anything other than Giants in that house!!!
Now, stop racking up days and get to shredding!!!
xoxo,
Connie
Claudia says
Oh, that Caroline! Not only does she have the same name as my middle name, she has great taste!
Kathy says
I have to confess I have never liked chevron either. To each his own, I guess!!
Claudia says
Maybe we need to form a club?
Maureen says
The one place I do love chevrons is on a uniform! Who doesn’t love a man in uniform?
Claudia says
Ah, forgot about that, Maureen. Uniforms are the exception.
Linda @ A La Carte says
Well I am rooting for the Tiger’s cause my Grandson’s name is Tiger and some friends sent him a hat from the Detroit Tigers and well, it just seems like that’s what I should do! LOL…. Love your ‘clean up’ it looks great. I hate shredding and need to do some but haven’t yet either. Enjoy your day and I hope the sun comes out!
hugs, Linda
Claudia says
Of course that’s who you should root for, Linda.
Jeanmarie says
It might take the excitement of World Series-watching up just a notch if you and Don were each rooting for a different team. Plus there’s that born-in-Detroit thing. Just saying. Enjoy the games!
Claudia says
I know, Jeanmarie. Let’s see what happens.
Donnamae says
I’m not a chevron fan either. I can totally relate to Christmas in Connecticut….I’m a stripe and plaid kind of gal! Nice to see your piles gone…now about that shredding…..wait until it’s really cold and nasty out!! ;)
Claudia says
Good idea, Donnamae!
Annie @ knitsofacto says
I think I’ve been hanging out in the wrong part of Blogtopia …. what chevrons? Maybe it’s a US thing? As is baseball, so I’m clueless about that too. Rain and grey skies though, I know all about those … it’s been dismal here :(
Hope the sun’shone on you today Claudia :)
Claudia says
Probably is a US thing, Annie. Be glad. No sun yet, Annie. Dismal.
Mary @ Ms Redo says
I’m with you on the chevron, but looking at our blogs and our tastes, you would kinda have to know that chevron wouldn’t be our thing, right?! Glad you’re getting some of your piles sorted and even better, thrown away, oh my I do love to throw things away (it’s a sickness, I know!).
Claudia says
Mary, it’s a sickness I would like to come down with a bit more often!
Regena Fickes says
I have never liked chevron’s either. Thought I must be the only one. Maybe set a goal of X # of sheets per day shredded. If you are like me, it could take well into next year to get it all done. Anyway, have loved your blog since I first found it. Thanks for months of sharing.
Claudia says
You are most welcome!
Teresa Kasner says
Oh goodness.. I have a chevron neat ripple blanket on the chair next to me and I love it! Oh well! I am wondering what kind of chevrons you’re seeing that you don’t like? We need an example! LOL!! I posted photos of a house at the beach this morning.. I hope you pop over and see it.. I want to live there! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Claudia says
I have ripple blankets in chevrons, too – Teresa. They are an exception!
Chevrons are being used in design – lampshades, wallpaper, pillows, wall graphics – they are everywhere!
Beverly says
Well, this might shock you, but this Yankees fan is pulling for the Giants. You smiling now?
Just think how everyone must be bored by my plain white blog.
Claudia says
I find plain old white blogs rather refreshing these days, Beverly! I think more and more blogs are going that way.
Yay for the Giants, Beverly!
Diane says
What I want to know is what ever happened to the term “zig zag?” I don’t care for the pattern either– they are all over the scrapbook paper world too.
Claudia says
Good question! You’re right, that pattern used to be called zig-zag. I liken it to this: we used to say, I’m putting together a list of my favorite pieces of furniture, or my favorite things from, say, Pottery Barn. Now, we ‘curating’ a collection. It just seems a bit full of itself, you know what I mean?
Pat says
Ha! Claudia …you’re such a funny gal.
I believe I’ve mentioned both chevron design and baseball to you recently…when discussing my ‘all things nostalgic Avocado green and Harvest Gold” …
So you already know how I feel about chevron… and as for baseball. Love it. Love crocheting and watching or listening to the game. I believe I’ll be rooting for the underdogs (?) SF Giants!
Although, after the Rangers…chucked it in the last couple of games …I had wanted the Cardinals to go— oh well.
Claudia says
Me, too, Pat. I think it’s the Giants…but I’m still torn.
xo
Carolynn "Chenille Cottage" says
Yes….I feel your pain, Claudia. I have never been fond of the sensations of vertigo…ever!!!
And, now to your tweaked diggs….your room looks great…so tidy and just ready to create something wonderful in….:-)
Have a great day, my friend,
Blessings,
Carolynn
Claudia says
I’m off to crochet a bit more on that scarf, Carolynn – in my cozy blogging chair.
Odette says
I thought you were going to talk about the chevrons…on the baseball! (That’s what I see, anyway.) :)
Claudia says
Really? I don’t see them – you mean the stitching? Perhaps they are mini-mini-chevrons? In any case, I LIKE those chevrons!
Haworth says
Okay so your space looks just as lovely to me, Claudia, because you managed to tidy it without losing the cozy “I can work here” feeling! That’s an art, believe me! And I’ve never ever been a fan of bargello, although I can appreciate all the work that goes into them. I don’t think I like angles very much. I’m more of a soft corners kind of gal. Sounds like you’ll be happy no matter which of the two teams win….? When I find myself liking both teams in any sport, I tend to route for the underdog from game to game.
Claudia says
Me, too, Haworth – I always seem to root for the underdog. And you’re right – angles don’t seem to do it for me, either.
debra says
If Chevrons are the zigzag patterns??
I recently asked a coworker if her sweater was new and she said yes. I then said that it was very attractive on her and that I remembered wearing stuff like that back in the Dark Ages when I was young, lol….
What goes around comes around !
Claudia says
I think chevrons ARE zig zags, aren’t they?
Laura says
Chevrons tend to make me dizzy, so I am with you on that one. It was a beautiful day here, today. I opened the windows and breathed in the wonderful fresh air while I was sewing. Loved it.
Hugs,
Laura :)
Claudia says
It’s Thursday morning as I write this and it is still GRAY outside! Lucky you!
Melanie says
I happen to really like chevron, though I don’t have any of that pattern in my house. I like the chevron rugs and ottomans. Like you said that, each to his or her own! I also like florals, paisley, circles….hmm, not too crazy about plaid though. Sorry to say though, I’m not a baseball fan at all. My husband is a Cubs fan. Think they’ll ever win? ;-)
Claudia says
I sure hope the Cubs win sometime soon!
Brenda Kula says
Well, at the risk of offending anyone myself, I have to say, I loved watching my girls play softball. But if someone told me I had to sit through a TV session of a whole baseball game, I’d start screaming. To me it is the most boring thing to watch, aside from golf on TV, I’ve ever seen. I think it’s because it seems so slow, and I can barely sit through a two hour movie. So I wouldn’t be for either side. I’d be for getting it all over with. Sorry, my friend. Probably should have just kept that little tidbit to myself. As for the chevron design, I’m with you all the way. My eyes don’t glaze over. I feel like both my eyes are going in different directions and I feel dizzy! I see that on a blog and I’m so struck by that I can’t concentrate on the content. I’ll be glad when that obsession is gone, stainless steel appliances, and white, white, white decor.
Brenda
Claudia says
Well, now, my friend, since you are the most impatient person I know, baseball would NOT be for you. Watching baseball requires patience. I used to feel that way when I was younger, but now I realize that there are so many complexities in any given moment during a game – it’s fascinating and, no, it doesn’t seem slow at all. Don and I often say that in this fast, fast, fast society of ours, we need games like baseball. We need to remember that the pace of our lives can be slower and richer.
Dayle says
Part of The Man’s retirement activities have been working on his goal of visiting all of the Major League Baseball parks in the U.S. and we’ve got most of them ticked off the list. One of the fun parts of watching baseball on TV is being able to say, “Hey, we were there!” :) Good think I love baseball.
Dayle says
That should’ve been “Good THING I love baseball.” Guess I’m seeing chevrons or something. HA!
Nola says
Love the photo of a baseball and one of your beautiful scarves!
First, my Rangers were knocked out of the playoffs. Then the Cardinals were knocked out. I must be a jinx for baseball teams. I’ll be rooting for the Tigers, but don’t tell anyone, I don’t wanna jinx them!
Manuela@A Cultivated Nest says
I’m with you on the chevron! I’ve said many a time they’re just a bunch of zig zags. I wish people wouldn’t get so caught up in what’s new. I always wonder if all these people really like chevrons or if they’re just going with what’s popular
