Oh boy. Yesterday the temperature ‘felt like’ 108. Today, more of the same. I know so many of you have been dealing with the same thing. I end up feeling enervated. I suppose that’s because I know I’m stuck in the house all day. I did emerge to water plants and get the mail, but that’s about it. And because the a/c goes on so early in the morning, I can’t do any oil painting, as I don’t want the fumes blowing all over the kitchen and living room. This is temporary, of course, and it’s not a hurricane or a wildfire, so I’ll stop complaining!
We have to film an audition this morning. It will be the first time we’ve used our background screen, so wish us luck. We have the a/c on right now, but we’ll have to turn it off for taping.
What else? We ended up staying up too late because we were so hooked on The Bridge that we watched 3 episodes in a row. My heavens, this show is excellent. Only one more to go, which we’ll watch tonight.
And then, I’ll cry a little because it’s over.
I’m reading The Ghost Fields by Elly Griffiths. I have two more of her books on deck but I may hit pause and read the new John Connolly.
That’s all for now, my friends. I know this is brief but I have to help Don with the self-taping.
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.

Just read a John Connolly on Netgalley for review…reading Jane Casey The Killing Kind for review now…so easy to read these…hope you have a productive day…

Thanks, Brenda.

I felt bereft at the end of The Bridge, such a great series. Good luck with the audition!
Claudia says
Thanks, Fiona.
Yes, I will be very, very sad when it ends.
Stay safe.
Marilyn Schmuker says
Best of luck to Don with his audition.
It has been hot and humid here too. Not as hot, upper 80’s but the humidity is horrible.
We’ve also had thunderstorms the last 2 days and many people without power due to high wind and trees down. We managed to lose power for only a half hour yesterday evening. I’m not sure how that happened because their restoration time wasn’t until Sat! But I’m not complaining.
I am trying to be grateful for things in my life, especially health. Everything on the news is another worry so I’m trying to focus on the good things in life.
Stay cool snd stay safe
Claudia says
Always a good idea to focus on the good, Marilyn!
Stay safe.

Sending all good wishes for a successful taping and audition. It is so steamy here – -90s today but higher with the heat index. We had a huge storm(s) last night so the basement has water all over the floor, some areas deeper than others but enough to be annoying.
I was glad it cooled off for last night’s birthday celebration — a very lovely dinner for two on Rick’s patio with a great bottle of wine and wonderful food, followed by dessert with friends who came by after. These are our closest, safest friends and we enjoyed every minute sitting outside until the lightning started picking up and the thunder sounding closer. As they left we hustled to get everything in on time — and just barely made it!
Tomorrow I leave for the cottage and art camp week. It’s supposed to cool off and sorely needed. Then 80s next week, which is fine for the lake. It will be good to get back north again.
I found “The Ghost Fields” fascinating and lots of very interesting things that happen in the lives of all our character friends!
Claudia says
Sorry about the water in your basement, Jeanie.
And very happy you had a lovely birthday celebration!
I could use some cooler lake breezes right about now!
Stay safe.

I’ve been so uncomfortable with any errands I’ve had to run. So staying inside as much as possible. Just so hot. Take care.
Claudia says
So hot here, too. I just slept for an hour. I can’t keep my eyes open!
Stay safe.

If you need a new TV show to watch, I’m just about to start the last two seasons of “A Place to Call Home”. A family saga set in 1953 rural Australia. I checked the DVDs out of my local library. Amazing actors, great costumes, and so engaging. One of those shows the network that started it cancelled at the end of the second year. The fans protested and another network brought itback for four more years.
Claudia says
Thanks for the tip, Lucie!
Stay safe.

and for dealing with the weather and the wind of a good show.
thanks for the feedback about “schitt’s creek”. i love quirkiness so will try to find that show somehow.

What a thrill for Iowa & Dyersville! I’ve been following the news since it was announced. Listening to Morning Edition today, they said baseball is no longer the US’s favorite game. HAH! Everyone I know still follows the professional baseball every year, but now more difficult since most of the games are on cable/pay tv. I know I watch more basketball, but it’s more readily available.
Looking forward to the Iowa Game!
Claudia says
Baseball is and always will be my favorite game!
Stay safe, Martha.
Claudia says
Yes, I’ve read about that game! I hope it cools down a bit.
Schitt’s Creek is on Netflix, I believe.
Stay safe, Kathy.
Martha (in SF) says
I’ve caught “Schitt’s Creek” recently on our local Fox channel at odd times.

oops … that’s supposed to be “end” of a good show.

Merde to Don (and you) that all your setup efforts and work on the audition go well.
Feeling for everyone from MidWest to East Coast – such heat & humidity. Hope it breaks soon.
In the past couple of months I’ve taken up watching “Friday Night Dinner” (series from UK) on Amazon – less than 30 minutes of pure farce. I tend to watch it at night before bed after any particularly trying day. I find I have to forego any judgment regarding literary value & just wait for the unbelievable silly moments. Then I can sleep soundly.
I love “Bosch” also, but want to drag it out as long as possible since it’s the last season. So fun to see a couple old friends from Santa Maria days in minor roles – Troy Evans (Barrel) and Mark Herrier (Captain Cooper). As soon as it ends for me, I’ll hsve to look for “The Bridge” series.
Claudia says
I know Bosch is well-loved. I can’t watch it because I’ve read all of Connelly’s books from the moment they were first published and I have my idea of Harry Bosch securely in my imagination. I don’t want Titus Welliver in there! (Though he’s a wonderful actor.) I get that way about some books. Also, and maybe I wouldn’t be with this series, I’m always disappointed by adaptations.
Glad you like it. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
Stay safe, Martha.
Anne Burke says
I just visited one of my daughters at her home in Baltimore. She’s a pediatric neurologist and she and her husband have three kids ages 10-14 so she doesn’t have a lot of time for casual reading. We were trading notes about “comfort reading” and she mentioned Elly Griffiths’s books! I ordered the first two Ruth Galloways before I drove home – was gonna get more but she panicked and said I shouldn’t, since I might not like them. They arrived on Monday. I finished the first one on Tuesday and the second yesterday. Gosh they are good. I guess I’m glad I ordered only two because I was literally doing nothing but reading until I got to the end of the second one.
Good luck to Don on the audition!
Claudia says
Aren’t they fun? And I learn a lot, as well!
Thanks, Anne.
Stay safe.

I am fascinated by your self taped audition. It is mind boggling to me that people have to have those skills now. Not just actors but regular job interviews. I know Don’s will be great but oh my I would never get a job.
Claudia says
I know. I do better in person. Or at least, I did!
Stay safe, Kay.
Vicki says
Wow, Claudia, you’ve gone from all that rain to hot, hot, hot. Here, too, in Southern Calif; we were 90 degrees on Thurs before it was even 10am but of course that’s not nearly as hot as what you’re enduring.
My husband had pulled off an interesting article for me to read: “Climate change is leading many Americans to look for new places to live.” But I always come back to, WHERE? It seems to indicate we should all go north, so at least you’re positioned in a good place! NASA studies say the last seven years in the U.S. have been the warmest on record, putting importance on the long-term trends. It’s not easy to make a big relocation/move in our senior years, though. The article says things like “people lucky enough to have the means to be able to consider relocating” – – how many of us, in fixed-income years, HAVE those means? “Even for those who can afford it” (key words), moving to outrun climate change isn’t an easy decision for many people. One person cited said, “I have thought of moving somewhere else with a more consistent and comfortable climate with less-extreme events, but I love where I live, it’s my home and I don’t want to leave.” Amen.
Claudia says
Maybe I should apply for dual citizenship (Canada, as my mom was born there) and move to Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island! Actually, I have the forms, which I downloaded after filling out an ‘are you eligible’ questionnaire. I downloaded them because of Trump, but maybe I should go ahead because of climate change…
xo
Vicki says
Well, it’s a thought for sure! I have ALWAYS wanted to see PE Island or Nova Scotia; I think I just have always been intrigued with neighboring Canada in general. (Reading Anne of Green Gables was certainly an initial lure.) And of course I’ve been told by those who’ve traveled there, that Montreal feels like Europe.
I do recall when many of us pondered if we should leave back in 2016. I have a friend who surprised me at the time, by saying she was considering a move to Vancouver. For those of us with no familial connection or work connection, we found it’s not so easy.
I’ve brought this up before, but I’ve always wondered about that area of Canada just over your border near Niagara Falls, where there’s so much agriculture which includes vineyards; Welland or Port Dalhousie or Jordan or St. David’s (just names of towns I’ve written down in this Niagara region of Ontario, Canada).
Claudia says
Winters can be harsh on the shores of Lake Ontario, but that region is lovely. Haven’t been there for a long time, but my family is from Ontario, northwest of Toronto: Owen Sound (on the Georgian Bay) and Orillia and Barrie.
