Anastasia, Neon and Manhattan

February 1, 2018 at 9:23 am by Claudia

A very cold night in NYC did not stop the crowd that came to see Anastasia. It’s selling well. Lovely to see some of the cast backstage after the show, to meet new cast members, to see it again. Later this afternoon, I will do some individual coaching. Interestingly – in the small world category – I was sitting next to a women who looked familiar to me and when we started chatting, it turns out that I met her years ago at the Old Globe. She had also been thinking that I looked familiar. She’s in town for an audition.

On the way to the theater, I tried to take some photos, but juggling my notepad and my purse and the camera (while wearing gloves) proved problematic. But I did get an interesting shot:

I’m rather liking the blurry and squiggly lights.

And here’s a view of our tiny kitchen. It is impossible for us both to be in there at the same time.

Tin of cookies on the counter.

The apartment has all the trendy things of the moment: a dash of subway tile, stainless steel appliances, open shelving in the living room, polished wood floors, a dash of midcentury modern, great ceiling fixtures and a faux moose head on the wall. Sort of fun!

Don’s doing well, but he’s tired. Long rehearsal days, new dances to be learned, run-throughs for the producers and then a move to the theater on Monday.

Today I think I’ll mosey on down to Greenwich Village before I have to go to the theater. Tonight, I get to spend the evening with my husband. It will be the last one for a while, as he will be moving into afternoon and evening rehearsals. Sigh.

Happy Thursday.

Claudia, I do like the blurry squiggly photo. I so wish I could see Anastasia and then Don’s musical also. One of these days I will get to NYC! I hope Don stays well and can get some rest. Take care and enjoy your day in the city!

Sounds like things are moving right along for the two of you. I love the apartment that you have! So nice to have a kitchen, no matter how small, when you are staying for a prolonged time. Can eat the things that make you feel good. For me, sometimes eating out does not agree with me. But then if I cut my meal in half and take the other half home, I feel much better. I guess it’s portion, portion, portion! LOL.

    I like that little apartment!
I hope he’s eating well without you there.
keeping that kind of schedule is not great for one’s health I would think!
    rest is under rated anymore!

Don loves food. He’s eating well. In fact, he’s the one who cooks most of the time at home, so the question should be am I eating well without Don at home.

clearing of the ICE. now I can worry about your eating too.
worry. it’s apparently always been my middle name.
and that’s sad. because I rather like Ellen better. :)

I eat well. In fact, I’m starting to diet because I’ve been indulging in sweets way too much.

That little kitchen seems to have a lot of storage, relatively speaking. The tin of homemade cookies is the best thing in there!

I like your tiny kitchen…looks like it would be super efficient. It’s a wonder in a city the size of NYC, you would actually sit next to someone you knew…neat. I do like the squiggly lights pic too…you’ve managed to give a still
    pic…life. Enjoy your day! ;)

Love that picture! Are all of the actors in the same apt complex, or spread out over the area?

We are now to have about 2 weeks of below avg temps. So cold today ~ but it is sunny.

The stress (and the crap that produces the stress) is never ending. I simply don’t understand how the lies “they” keep building give them the results they want. Isn’t good supposed to triumph over evil?

Enjoy the rest of your work day & the evening with Don. Safe travels in the morning!

They all live here, Chris. Most actors, especially younger actors, live in the city.

did you go back and pick up a book? hope so … and that you have time to read it at home. safe travels!

Very attractive kitchen. I like it [and I’m not a contemporary style person at all]. But wow, smaller than mine? I didn’t think that was possible. But hey, this is NYC. Small kitchens are an art form there, right? I guess I can’t grumble about lack of counter space any more. Does Don cook when he’s [a] on his own & [b] away from home? I would think he’s down for a good deal of reheating, microwaving, salad bars & other takeout. That’s what I’d do. Especially when you get so little time at “home” anyway – all I’d want to do is sleep & vegetate online or in front of the tube. Will the same apartment be home for you guys as long as “Escape” runs? If it goes months or years, will things “escalate?” Have fun in Greenwich Village! Haven’t been there in years but I’m sure it’s even better than it was in the 80s. Peace.

Buying meals out, etc, adds up. So our deal is that he gets to grab one meal out a day, but the rest of the time it’s microwave or cooking, or whatever. We want to bank as much of his paychecks as we can.

I guess this will be Don’s home for the run of Margaritaville, however long or short that may be! Greenwich Village is fabulous.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
