We’ve entered tech/dress rehearsals and it all has to be done in about three days, so the rest of the week here will be intense. It’s also very rainy around here and there are going to be thunderstorms today, so taking photos is on hold for the moment. I swear I can’t remember a more rainy season than we’ve had this spring and early summer.
Anyone want to take a guess at how many hours I’m going to have spend weeding when I get home?
The mind boggles.
On Sunday, after the opening festivities – and in the rain – I took a few more photos.
I forgot about my other favorite white house. This is it. It’s an adorable tiny cottage, with an extension on the side. Sorry for the umbrella in the shot, but as I said – rain.
It has two matching rockers on the porch with faded flower cushions, a little hooked rug on the pale pink porch floorboards, two beautiful hanging plants and incredible detail. The yard is beautifully landscaped and over to the left you can see the lovely outdoor seating area – full of white wicker furniture. Oh my heavens.
This house is right across the street from my other favorite white house, so I took another picture so you could see more of it.
Gorgeous. Yellow porch swing, yellow chairs, yellow flowers in a vase.
Next door is another house, with less ornamentation but quite lovely. I don’t think it had been opened up for the summer when I took this picture, if the blue tarp is any indication. Love the graceful arches on the front porch and the paint colors.
You can tell it’s next door to the house pictured above because….yellow umbrella.
And finally, I saw this tiny little house for sale on one of my walks the other day.
There are houses and cottages of all shapes and sizes here.
I’m tired and more than a little homesick, but I’m hanging in there. The cast and staff of the theater are wonderful people. My roommates and I are doing our best to give each other some space in this apartment, but we’re also having fun together. I couldn’t ask for nicer people.
I’m the oldest of the roommates. And I think I’m the oldest person working at the theater at the moment. The director, who is a pal of mine, is a few years younger than me. Don and I regularly have conversations about this new phenomenon of being the oldest person in the room. What the heck? When did that start happening?
I just wish the weather was nicer, but I can’t control that (darn it) so I’ll just have to go with the flow.
I posted a book review on the other blog yesterday. If you haven’t had a chance to read it, here’s the link. I loved it and I think you will, too.
Happy Tuesday.
Linda @ A La Carte says
Claudia, I think the first little white cottage might be my favorite. So sweet! I was telling my daughter last night that it was a dream to live in a little cottage and hey it still might happen one of these days. Hang in there, but I know how rain can get us down.
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
You never know, you may end up in a lovely little cottage some day, Linda! I hope so.
Donnamae says
All I know is…two weeks ago, I spent 4 hrs. everyday for 4 days pulling weeds…and there was still a little plot left! That’s a darling little cottage…you should check it out! It’s been raining here quite a bit too…but when you consider the alternative, I’ll take the rain! ;)
Claudia says
Oh boy. I think I’ll be spending a lot of time pulling weeds, Donnamae!
Judy Clark says
Hang in there Claudia. I know you must be homesick.. Maybe the intense schedule will make the time go faster.
Judy
Claudia says
It will. Today is non-stop, just a short dinner break and we go til midnight.
Janet in Rochester says
All this rain is nuts, isn’t it? California needs it desperately, and we’re the ones who get it. Mother Nature can be not only cruel at times, but sometimes downright nasty. I am loving the intense color we’re left with after the rain – all the lush green lawns here are amazing and where I live, the landscaping crew actually has to rake after they cut the grass, it’s so thick. But I’d give anything if I could divert our rainy deluges to the West Coast. Oh well. Favorite cottage today – the pale green one with the restrained ornamentation. Try to keep dry – and enjoy your day! :>)
Claudia says
I so wish we could send some rain out west where it is so needed. It seems unfair!
Vicki says
Yes, I read about the N/E rain and almost choke back tears. We’re in the 90s here in SoCal and it’s brutal. I was at the cemetery yesterday and big signs were posted about the governor’s latest mandate, to explain why the cemetery isn’t watering the lawns. It’s all turning brown so quickly and I have lived in this town for many decades, never having seen it like this. I tend a dozen graves for my family here and never thought it would be dirt and weeds after being one of the most beautiful and tranquil spots on earth. We are all edgy now with wildfire. An invasive species of bamboo is in a lot of the SoCal riverbeds, where rivers have run dry, and when that bamboo burns, it burns down deep into the roots so that the fire smolders underground, reigniting the surface, which becomes very challenging for firefighters…not to mention the loss sometimes of precious municipal water to fight the fires. It’s just hard not to get filled with a sense of real desperation. I have distant relatives who are visiting the northern part of the state, considering a trip south to see me and I told them come another time; it’s ugly down here in SoCal, we’ve lost a lot of trees and too many homeowners’ front yards now look like weedy vacant lots. It isn’t soul-filling or scenic but is instead very troubling. Just so worried for our state and counting on El Nino to please bring us rain this year come November onward.
Claudia says
We’re hoping for rain for all of you. You need it desperately.
Nancy Blue Moon says
Love that little cottage for sale..what a dream come true it would be to sit on that porch with a book in hand and watch the world go by..sigh..
Claudia says
Wouldn’t it be loverly? (An ode to Lerner & Loewe.)
Wendy TC says
Do you know how much the owners of the for sale cottage is asking for it? I have no idea about real estate prices in that area. Probably not as bad as my area, but steep nevertheless. You got rain, I have a heat spell.
Nancy Blue Moon says
Wendy..I looked this cottage up as I was curious too..The price is $319,000 or $1,562 per month..it is 368 square feet..The address is 15 Peck Ave if you want to look it up..I guess I will have to wait until I hit the lottery..lol..
Claudia says
That’s a lot of money for 368 square feet!
Claudia says
Yikes, that’s pricey! I’ll see what else I can find out about it, Wendy.
Betsy says
I would love to have that little cottage that is for sale. They are all so pretty. You have rain, rain and more rain and we have an awful drought going on. We need rain desperately. With no lightening, thank you very much. The fires are bad enough already.
Hang in there Claudia. Home is getting closer every day.
Blessings,
Betsy
Claudia says
I wish we could send some to you. The world is out of kilter, that’s for sure. I hope you get rain soon. And I hope the threat of floods stops in this neck of the woods.
Lily says
I love all of these cottages, but my favorite is the first one. I could live in any of them full time quite happily, but I’m sure they are not in my price range.
I certainly sympathize with you, Claudia, with all this rain. We’ve had record amounts here in Missouri and are experiencing continual flood warnings. I’m so tired of rain almost everyday since April…. I wish we could send some to those that need it!
Claudia says
Me too! We’ve had more than our share – wish we could pass it around to those who need it.
Chris K in Wisconsin says
That first one is wonderful, but the 2nd one ~~ that yellow against the white ~~ it is absolutely charming. Would never think that yellow would stand out so much against white, but it is just lovely!!!!!!!
I know you can’t wait to get home to your own cottage, with Don and sweet Scout waiting for you. Being able to see your flowers again will make you happy, I’m sure!
The most awful piece here right now are the mosquitoes. Just trying to keep up with the dead-heading and the weeding is a battle against those nasty nasty things. They swarm like crazy the minute we step outside the door.
Well, just a few more days and you will be packing up to head home. Hope the rain stops for you and your last few days. Right now we have no rain in our forecast through next Monday and highs in the upper 70’s. Quite lovely, but we know how that can change in an instant!! Hopefully that nice weather is heading in your direction.
Claudia says
I think we have rain in the forecast off and on for the next few days. And it’s humid! Yuck.
Mosquitoes and ticks – both abound this year.
Vicki says
Well, now you have some inspiration of how to decorate your new dollhouse mini…
Ah, the oldest in the room. So true. And I remember when in all my years of working in business offices, I was the youngest. It doesn’t seem that long ago.
Or, when I ask for a senior discount and am not questioned over it. Ugh.
Aging! Not enthralling!
Claudia says
Just a few short years ago, no one believed I was my age. I think they do now!
Kay Nickel says
I remember one year when I was living in Maine that it rained every day in June. I love you photo for the cottages.
Yes, it is hard to be the oldest person in the room. I think it is the price we pay for being lucky to live a long and wonderful life. Yet, I agree, it is so un settling to be the old person when I feel the same as always.
Claudia says
I, too, feel the same as always! That, at least, is a good thing for both of us, Kay!
