Still life from yesterday. There is often a guitar on this sofa. That circular thing in the sound hole is actually a humidifier. At this time of year, with the heat on, guitars can dry out and that’s not a good thing.
Nothing all that exciting to report. We hauled porch furniture to the storage facility yesterday. I took the opportunity to look in my old trunk (retrieved last year from my friend’s basement back in Detroit) and I pulled out a lot of old pictures, etc., which I’m going to go through this weekend. Lots and lots of pics of young Claudia’s theatrical exploits. Should be interesting.
The big news here is the soon-to-be-with-us major snowstorm that is arriving on Sunday and will be active through Monday. Predictions vary wildly, but I believe I can say with relative certainty that this will be a biggie. At the very least, 8 inches, more likely a whole lot more.
We’re dreading it, of course.
Why can’t our first snowfall be picturesque and gentle? Perhaps a few inches and nothing more?
Nope. We’re getting walloped.
Weather (dot) com has the most alarming prediction. Weather (dot) gov is a bit more cautious. But our favorite is a local site, hudsonvalleyweather (dot) com, which goes into great detail and is also quite cautious about jumping to conclusions until all the data is in. These guys are great. So far, they’re holding off on Monday predictions. Monday, I gather, is the wildcard.
In the meantime, we need to do some grocery shopping and charge the snow blower.
This doesn’t bode well for the rest of the winter although my fantasy is that December is very snowy and then the rest of the winter is mild.
I can have my fantasy, right?
Happy Saturday.
Donnamae says
Sorry to hear about all your snow….sounds like quite a lot. We are only to get about 2 in. That we can handle. There are two ways to look at snowfall totals. Would you rather have 1 snowfalls totaling 13”…or four separate snowfalls of 3-4 inches which we had. More snowfalls = more shoveling! Tough question…sore muscles either way. But…it is beautiful no matter the amount.
It sounds like after grocery shopping, you’ll be all prepared for whatever. It is very windy here, misting, and rain mixed in, before turning to all snow tomorrow. I hope you have a good day today…and you get your fantasy! ;)
Claudia says
The latter. Much rather shovel a few inches at a time rather than 10 inches that is heavy and wet. Easy answer.
Thanks, Donna!
Donnamae says
Actually, I asked my hubby…he said he’d rather do smaller snows, too…he got more exercise that way. Who knew? ;)
Claudia says
And your back will say thank you!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
I dread when they start their “predicting”. Sometimes I think they forget to just look out the window ~ like when they tell us to expect the first flakes in the early evening, and before noon, out the window, we can see close to 2 inches already accumulating. Good to have the snowblower ready and waiting for the call to duty, also.
As Donnamae said, it is dark and gloomy here and quite windy with a mist-to-rain falling. Kind of an ugly day. Good day to stay inside and read!!
Claudia says
I’m dreading the whole thing, because it’s mixing with sleet and promises to be heavy and wet. Not good.
Thanks, Chris!
Trudy Mintun says
First, I would like to answer Donnamae’s question. I would rather shovel 13 times with 3-4 inches of snow. That little bit of snow would only take maybe 15 minutes each time.
Claudia, I am afraid maybe your snow is coming from this way. Not sure, but maybe. I am supposed to between 3-7 today, 5-9 tonight, and 1-3 tomorrow. Heavy wet stuff. I had about 3 overnight.
My garage door is broken. A spring broke. The garage door guy said my car must stay out until he can fix it. Maybe today, if not then Monday. I’m thankful for my garage believe me I am, however, I am even more thankful the garage door guy lives right next door.
Be safe when shoveling/snow blowing. Enjoy the peace that comes with snow.
Claudia says
I’m with you, Trudy! No question!
How lucky you are to have your garage door guy next door! Wonderful. Stay safe, Trudy. xo

Hope you get around to all you need to do outside before the snow storms gets really bad. I’m fortunate not to have to deal with snow. My hat is off to all of you in snow country. Having never lived in it, I can’t relate but can commiserate. We are getting pounded by a very cold rain front, starting right about now! Constant heavy rain all week and chilly temps (for Northern California). I have a pile of new projects to sew, and a pile of DVDs (I can binge West Wing). No venturing out for me, though I’ll miss my daily walk. I’ll have to up the weight training exercises to make up for that and maybe haul out my old Jane Fonda aerobics tapes….haha, just kidding about the latter…
Claudia says
The forecast just keeps getting worse. I cannot comprehend how much snow we’re going to get!xo
kaye says
First of all I know I live in the mountains thus at altitude so I know I will get a lot of snow. But, it is still a lot of work and I am measuring in feet and not inches. It is too much too soon.
I wish you well with your storm coming.

Claudia says
Feet here, I think. We’re going to get a lot of snow! Thanks, Kaye!
Linda Piazza says
You’re getting snow, but our temperature right now is 84 degrees! Our temperature has been so variable: chilly, rainy weather both Thursday and Friday and then this today but with lows in the 30s by tomorrow. I never know what to wear. I’m grateful that our temperatures were mostly mild over Thanksgiving, though, as many of our relatives, former classmates and friends were evacuated from their homes on Wednesday and not allowed to return until yesterday. Fifty thousand people in the area where George was born and I grew up was where the refinery explosion was. I’m so glad we didn’t stay there. My next-door neighbor, a boy of 19, was killed in a refinery explosion when I was a newly wed. George came to college in his socks one time because they were evacuated during the night, and he somehow didn’t get his shoes. My brother and George’s brother have both run from refinery fires.
Claudia says
Is this the refinery fire in Texas, Linda?
Linda Piazza says
Yes. I graduated from high school in Nederland, one of the towns evacuated. Before her death, George’s mother lived just a few blocks from the refinery. Many of our friends, classmates, and George’s relatives stayed in the area.
Claudia says
It must be terrifying for all involved.
Terri says
Here’s the forecast for Saratoga Springs:
..WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM SUNDAY TO 7 AM EST TUESDAY… * WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 12 to 21 inches.
Claudia says
Oh my. You’re getting even more than we are! Stay safe, Terri. This one is a monster!
Kay Nickel says
I hope you can post some of the young Claudia theater photos. Going to see you in plays with my Mother are some of my fondest memories. Those excursions were also a huge influence on me. I doubt that I would appreciate live theater as much as I do if I hadn’t gone to see you in plays. I especially remember The King and I. I thought you were so glamorous!
Claudia says
You are so sweet, Kay. I know I have some somewhere from The King and I. I’m so grateful for your family and the support of your mom and you during those years. Love you.
Marilyn says
I guess there is no getting away with this potential storm. So far our predictions are 1 to 3 but they are saying it could be more. I will be thankful for only 3 inches. My cousin in Binghamton is predicted for 11 inches. Stay safe.
Marilyn
Claudia says
Ours are 6 -12, Marilyn! It’s not a pretty snowfall, is it? We’re already getting sleet this morning. Stay safe.
kathy in iowa says
glad you are stocked up. stay safe!
kathy in iowa
Claudia says
Thank you, Kathy!
jeanie says
Best of luck with the snow. We had some this morning. Northern Michigan is getting wallopped but we might be on the light end of it. We’ll see. Stay cozy!
Claudia says
We’re definitely getting walloped. Sleet, then snow, and now it’s sleeting again and this continues through Monday. Thanks, Jeanie!
