Antiquing in Orange, Part 2

May 11, 2010 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

Hello friends – I thought I would continue our little trip to Country Roads Antiques.

Fabulous urns, pots and mantel.

This was the most fabulous industrial-look space. And more lockers!

Slightly blurry photo from when my camera was on the wrong setting – but I fell in love with the colors on this globe. It was on a floor stand. Gorgeous.

Marsha, this mantel setting reminds me of you!

Lots of fun, big things in this space. The statue had a rosary around her neck. I love the organ pipes on top of the white cabinet. Wouldn’t they make a wonderful decorating statement?

There were 2 of these chairs. I wanted them. Badly. Wouldn’t they look just perfect on the porch at Mockingbird Hill Cottage? Love the design, the metal, the chippy paint – everything.

This huge piece came out of an old post office. I bet all of you with studios would love this amount of great storage.

I took a picture of this china because the design reminded me of the china I bought recently. It is a different pattern, but the blue color, the gold trim and the flowers are very much like my set.

If you are ever in the area, you should definitely make a visit to this shop. You will love the incredible variety of vintage items. The prices seemed a bit high to me. Everything I looked at seemed to be priced a minimum of $10 – $15 more than I would see similar items priced elsewhere, including San Diego. I know pricing varies regionally (remember the huge mark-up I found on McCoy in the wealthy area of Long Island?) However, like many of you, I’ve been collecting for years and know a great deal about certain vintage pieces. I know what they are worth…and I just can’t spend more than that. Of course, if I was independently wealthy, it would be another story!

For example, do you remember this piece I bought a few months back?

I can’t remember exactly what I paid, but it was no more than $12. The same little spice rack was in a booth with a price of $32. I’m on a budget this year so I ended up buying only one thing and I found it in another shop (more photos in the next day or two.)

Koala update: I’ve seen my little friend a couple more times. He’s usually snoozing early in the morning or in the early evening. Today, I didn’t see him. I was disappointed!

Oh, oh, oh, you know me so well, Claudia!

I’m wondering how much that Eiffel Tower is!?!?!?

I hear you about the prices!! Remember those pink pyrex bowls I showed on my blog? I went back this Saturday as I was thinking of purchasing them but they’re $55.00!?!?!? Yikees . . . . I’ll just “visit” them for as long as they’re there, LOL

    xxoo

Oh, I’m sorry your friend was snoozing on your walk today, Claudia! But I love the fact that you have so many more cool finds for us. I want that wire birdcage on a table. So neat, and that post office thing is wonderful! What a great piece that would be for storing craft supplies. I don’t craft (well, not much), but I would start if I had a cool piece like that! At least I’d buy all the neat crafty things and set up a craft studio I could admire. ;-)

I think you need to get that chair on the plane somehow, Claudia! It’s neat!

I love your blue shelf. I also love the price you got on it. That’s a great price!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

    Claudia,
Love it all, mostly that file cabinet for maps or whatever it is. Oh I could so use that for my studio, what great storage that would be. And yes, that iron chair would look great in front of your cottage! Lisa

I feel the same way about chippy paint!
And yes, it is pricey there, the best part is just that they have so much to see! Rows and rows of stuff!
I am so glad you had such a good look around.

Those chairs are so great! I agree about the price thing. What frustrates me is when someone from a pricey area opens a store here (in Sacramento) and prices everything like their previous area. What are they thinking? I find wonderful things and then look at the pricetag and my heart sinks. Grrrr…
    Hugs,
    Jill

Claudia, thank you for the tour of Country Roads Antiques. I haven’t gone antique shopping in a while so that was really fun! I’m like you…the pocket book won’t allow for frivolous spending but I love the hunt and a good buy! Have a wonderful day. I hope the little Koala will show himself the next time you pass him by!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
