We all know it’s the little touches that make a house a home, right? MHC West will never be the same as my real home, but I have added a few little things that cozy this place up. Some are things I’ve bought or brought from home, others are from my sweet friends.
My ribbon board: I bought 2 of them last year and took one home. Since I’m in the same apartment, the other was still here. You can see notes and cards from friends and family, my 39 squares project, Elyse’s wonderful clothespin, and some prize ribbons.
The two prize ribbons were snagged at Vignettes.
That’s my furry nephew, Max, next to the ribbon. He sent me a Mother’s Day card. He is, along with my dogs, the sweetest dog in the world.
My blog ribbon from Jeanne. Terri sent me the postcard from Paris. She had a fabulous adventure there.
Gorgeous ribbon and seam binding and a vintage Paris medallion I bought from Vignettes when I first arrived. And my vintage doll clothespins.
The first two fabric hearts I ever made – they have their flaws, so I kept them for myself. I like having them around.
:: I finished reading Anne of Green Gables on the Nook and am now reading Anne of Avonlea. Like many of you, I saw the television series based on these books and own the DVDs. When I’m reading, I hear the voices of Megan Follows and Colleen Dewhurst in my head. I wrote about this last year, but I’ll say it again for those of you who might not have been reading this blog at the time. I had the great good fortune to work with Megan Follows several years ago. She was in a production of The Sea Gull right here in this theater. I don’t talk about these things often, but I’ve worked with a lot of well known actors. I think I was most excited to meet Megan. When we had our first work session, I said that I hoped she didn’t mind but I was a huge fan of her work in that series – that she must hear that all the time. She immediately said that she didn’t mind at all. She never tired of hearing how powerful that series was for so many. Megan was a delight. She was all grown up with children of her own but she’ll always be Anne, won’t she?
:: I had the strangest dream last night. I’m a big Gregory Peck fan. I was lucky enough to hear and see him in person when he was doing his one man show. He had the most glorious, deep, resonant voice. In this dream, there were several people in one room. We were all crying – were we in mourning? I don’t know. Suddenly, Gregory Peck came in the door. He was wearing a checked flannel shirt and was as handsome as you might imagine. I hoped he would come up to me. He did. He leaned down to speak in my ear. And out of him came the most nasal, high-pitched, southern twang you’ve ever heard. He might as well as been a cast member on Hee Haw. And then I woke up.
Aren’t dreams fascinating???

I love all of your treasures. Dreams are indeed fascinating. I have very vivid and weird dreams and so does my mom. Mother has trouble distinguishing between her dreams and real life. That can be scary!

Claudia all of your keepsakes are so pretty on your ribbon board. I’m still giggling over your dream guy, Gregory Peck, with the Hee Haw voice!! ROTFL

First of all, I am cracking up, Claudia! Thinking of Mr. Peck with the voice of Grandpa or Minnie Pearl for that matter on Hee Haw. I so wonder what that dream meant. About a week after my step-dad passed away, I had a dream that I was in a restaurant waiting to be seated and he came out from another room. He stood there gentle as always, I ran over to him & said I love you in his ear and he whispered the same back to me… that was it, I woke up and savored that dream all day. Dreams are fascinating. Didn’t start out thinking I’d write so much down, but know you understand completely, Claudia.
Your memory board in your apartment is lovely and filled with lots of precious items that mean a lot. I LOVE that you have a nephew dog! He is quite photogenic ;)
Oh, I believe I met you right around the time of your Anne of Green Gables/Megan Fellows post and that was one of the first things that made me a follower of your blog. That & your romantic porch featured on sweet Rachel’s blog. Awww, that dress with puffy sleeves and just a little sugar from Matthew!

Hi Claudia,
What a wonderful way to stay connected to home and friends, including furry ones! Your board of sweetness and love is fabulous.
I also enjoy reading about your theatre background and meeting well known people. You are a very interesting person.
Funny that you dreamed about Gregory Peck. I dreamed I was marrying Alex Baldwin! LOL.

Ah, dreams are fascinating. I had a bizarre dream about Oprah that I remember to this day.
Anyway…. OMG! Megan Fellows! She will always be Anne to me. She captured Anne’s endearing character so well. I adore her!

Hi Claudia,
What a great spot you have created..it does make you feel more connected with home when you put out these sweet reminders.
I love that your fur nephew sent you a birthday card. One of my SIL’s and his wife have 3 golden retrievers that are their children. We’ve received cards from them. At Christmas time they are told when they can open their presents {themsevles}
I think your dream carries a lot of meaning. I have them so vivid that I write it down when I get up just to ponder the meaning?? LOL
Have a great day, Claudia…

Yes, Megan Follows will always be Anne to me. How lovely that you had a chance to work with her on a stage project. I read every single one of the Anne Of Green Gables books and the series that they made for tv was soooo wonderful!
Are you starting to count down the days ’til you return home?
Sares says
We girls have to build our nest wherever we’re living!
I love the Anne of Green Gables series ans Megan Follows IS Anne to me! The TV series is one of my favorite. I have it on VHS and it is beginning to get fuzzy, I may have to invest in the DVD set. How fun to have met Megan in person!

Claudia,
How awesome to work with talented people you respect. I know you are homesick for your wonderful cottage. Love the picture of your sweet Golden. I had too, unfortunately lost them to Cancer. Still cry over those dogs, they are the best. I love seeing your treasures, particularly love the ribbon your friend made. BTW, your acting advice is stuck in my mind for my Paper Cowgirls gig. I will start my rehersal for my monolouge soon. Lisa

Hi Claudia:
I’m sure the treasures you have around you are a great comfort as you’re away from home. They’re all so beautiful.
Interesting dream, to be sure! I am also a huge fan of Gregory Peck. Can’t imagine him speaking with anything but that wonderfully deep voice. sigh

Dream??? Claudia, that was more like a nightmare! And I’m Southern and can say that with authority. LOL! ;-) Of course, the fact that you are a dialect coach gives you every right to say it, too!
I adore Gregory Peck. What a fabulous man, and he adored his wife. I love a man who loves and appreciates his wife.
I also love your goodies. It’s fun to see what you have with you at MHC West. You nephew looks like my great great nephew (my sister’s grandson’s dog).
XO,
Sheila

Hi Claudia,
Didn’t buy that statue on my blog (wish I had after my hubby’s reaction to the photo like it wouldn’t have been a big deal if I did ~ go figure!)
I found comfort reading of your dream waltz with your dear brother. He did visit you that night, it’s so wonderful to have been comforted in that way, isn’t it? I know I will carry that dream about my step-dad, Arnold & his visit to me until the day I go to meet him. Thank you for sharing your dream, Claudia, you know what it means to me.

Claudia, this has to be one of my most favorite posts EVER of yours! Harleigh and I are huge fans of the Anne series and have it all on DVD. I plan to pass it along to my grandchildren . . . such wholesome, heartwarming story lines.
And this post is one of those that you click on a link, then it takes you to something else, then you click on another site. I had so many windows open on my computer!! And I added a few sites to my fave list!
Thanks so much.
