One of my favorite things about Rhinebeck is walking through the area where the animal pens are. These guys are so, so cute. There are lambs, sheep, llamas, alpacas, goats, rabbits…all so adorable you can’t stand it! And I must admit, as a vegetarian, I don’t understand how anyone can look at one of the lambs and ever eat one again. My sister and I are always shocked at the line of people waiting to have lamb for lunch. We just shake our heads and quickly walk away. I know many people, in fact, most people, do not share my feelings on this subject. Someday I’ll share the story of my decision to commit to vegetarianism, but that is for another day. Pardon the blurriness of these photos. I think there is something wrong with my battery.

There is frost on the ground today and I realize that my lovely potted impatiens on the porch are not long for this world. This always makes me a bit melancholy. Our trees have dropped huge amounts of leaves in the past few days and this week will find us raking, raking, and doing some more raking. We love our beautiful old trees – wouldn’t trade them – but the raking that comes along with them is a bit tedious.

I’ve resumed knitting my sweater. That little project had been shelved temporarily while I was traveling around the country. Since the yarn is super bulky, packing it in my little carry-on bag was not possible. But my sister, as always, had a project with her (a beautiful shawl knitted with Noro yarn), and I felt I had to rise to the occasion and do something.

By the way, I love having wireless! I am currently sitting in the den, tapping away on my keyboard while my husband is upstairs composing and using the computer. The only problem I have is posting photos on Blogger. If the wireless signal isn’t strong enough, I can’t post them. The same thing happened to me on the road. No big deal. I’ll save this and post them using the computer upstairs. The real problem is that I am still in my pajamas at 9:40 am and I haven’t exercised or eaten breakfast or done anything else!
