Definitely a fall morning; foggy, a bit wet, as it rained this morning, leaves on the ground all over the property.
Our front lawn is SO long and it desperately needs mowing. Unfortunately, my back really suffered from driving to and from Rochester and Don’s hand is sore, so we have to wait a bit. Frankly, if it weren’t for the cars parked outside the house, it would look like no one was home. As an added bonus, raccoons got in our trash can this morning and there’s trash strewn all over the area near the shed. That hasn’t happened in a while!
I’m determined to be very careful and take it easy over the next two days before I have to zoom coach again on Wednesday and Thursday. But thankfully, I can sit here in my chair with the heating pad on while coaching and that helps.
I’m currently listening to and watching BBC News Live as the King has traveled to Edinburgh where the late Queen’s coffin has arrived. I find all of this fascinating and moving; the ceremony, the ritual, the love for the Queen. And I’ve traveled to Edinburgh a few times and I know the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood House, etc. It’s such an extraordinarily beautiful city.
She became Queen in February of 1952 and I was born in November of the same year. She’s been Queen for my entire life. The same for millions, of course, but I’ve always felt a special link as I was born the same year she became Queen.
I haven’t been able to watch much coverage in the past few days, so I’m going to take advantage of being home and watch today.
I have some cute Blythe pictures but, in keeping with my intention not to post about them every day, I’ll wait a day or so to post them.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

I vaguely remember as I was young but..
I enjoy it…I turn on you tube tv…love your photo…thank heaven forheating pads…Mother always made sure I had one for my back even as a young woman…prayers
Claudia says
I feel like I have the heating pad on all the time. I used to use it for cramps when I was young.
Stay safe, Brenda.

I was born in September 19 53 and my family, being Anglophiles, bought some commemorative plates and tea cups, I’ve been meaning to display them for years, but during our last search, I could not find them. Because of those
mentos and our upbringing in the episcopal church, I too have felt an affinity for the queen, her love of animals, her service during World War II, and her utter devotion to her duties. As a friend pointed out, Charles has had many years to learn from her. I hope he will be the king that his people need At this time. And I never tire of seeing your curls.
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Nora. My ancestors were English, Scots, and Irish (and some German) and 3 out of 4 of my grandparents were born in Canada, so we are definitely proud of our heritage. Bless Charles as he moves into this new role.
Stay safe!

oh, post every day about the dolls every day if you like. It brings us a smile when you do. Having something that you love is a real blessing.
Claudia says
Well, they sure make me smile and if they make you smile, too, that’s lovely.
Thanks so much, Christine
Stay safe.
Carol Dunlap says
I’m watching as much and as often as I can. I admire her so much.
Claudia says
I do, too.
Stay safe, Carol.
Linda says
Yes we watched the service this morning.
She had a deep faith, so she is at rest with our Lord.
My husband took out his Bible and also read from John 14
Yes there are many rooms in our Lord’s house.
King Charles has aged in the last few days😒
Brendab says
That is my favorite passage…although I prefer modern versions of the Bible, I love the King James…”in my Father’s house are many mansions…”. I like that word mansions…
Claudia says
I love the King James version – written in the language of Shakespeare!

beautiful (Bible reading and verse/message)! :)
feeling bad for King Charles … loss, timing of big new duties …
hope you are well, having a good day.

Claudia says
I don’t see him as having aged. Maybe we’re just seeing him close-up, which is relatively rare?
Thanks so much, Linda.
Stay safe.
Linda MacKean says
I love watching all the ceremonies and outpouring of love for the Queen. Long days for the family especially King Charles as he mourns his Mother and takes over all the duties of the Monarch. I’m finding comfort in the traditions and pageantry of it all I must admit. Take care of your back. Hugs!
Claudia says
I am, too. I love the ritual and the protocol, every detail in place long ago. It’s beautiful and moving.
Stay safe, Linda.

hope your back and don’s hand feel better soon!!
minus those pains and raccoons making a mess, it sounds and looks to me like a lovely morning. beautiful photo. like the red from the umbrella.
post about those cute blythe dolls and anything else as you want … all good with and appreciated by me!
saw on tv the cortege for queen elizabeth, but only for a couple minutes … the huge number of people showing support is beautiful and i hope that helps her family, but i try to limit viewing (or reading) things of sadness because of my own depression.
last week was scary at my building (thankfully not a usual thing there). drunk driver hit the utility pole at the base of the driveway so power was out while the pole was replaced. driver said to be okay (though may have been drunk so could have legal and financial troubles). one of the eleven other tenants left for labor day weekend with her stove not completely turned off … no pilot light on, but on enough for gas to slowly seep out … so we had to evacuate. less than 36 hours later, we had to evacuate again because someone had a fire in their kitchen, related to what they had stored in the drawer of the oven and broiler. a back-of-mind worry for living in an apartment. ugh.
beautiful, crisp weather here … clear blue skies, cooler temperatures. i am not looking forward to winter, but i am ready for the ease and beauty of fall!
hope you all are having a good day and stay safe.

meant to also say that thankfully no one was hurt by the gas leak or kitchen fire (described by the landlord as “small”). still scary, but glad no one was hurt or displaced.

Sorry to hear that your back is acting up. Riding in a car for that long will do it. I love tradition so watching all the coverage of the Queen is fascinating to me. Would love to take a trip there some day. Have not traveled out of the US yet in my life. Will put on my bucket list. So….I was asked to post about my concert experience. OMG…it was one of the best nights of my life. No question why he is Entertainer of the Year. So talented, unbelievable guitar player and he had the whole place in the palm of his hand. So much fun! I am glad my heart held out because we stood most of the time and sang along with the whole place to all the words of his songs. I woke up hoarse the next morning! Just a wonderful human being. I have to say though, we saw the young gentleman who had the best time. He was a young man with Downs Syndrome and we couldn’t help but watch him and see how much he loved being there. It warmed my heart. Thinking I may start putting some Fall decorations up today. Definitely my favorite time of year. Take care of that back!
Claudia says
So glad you had a great time, Deb! It sounds like it was wonderful. I’m not a fan myself, but that’s because I’m not into country music. Sounds like he’s charming and fun and talented.
Stay safe.
Deb says
I use to hate country music until my daughter asked me to take her to a concert. I thank her all the time for introducing me to it. Country today is not like it use to be and especially Keith. He is not country. I don’t like putting people in genres. If it is good music, I listen to it. I am a music junky though and went to concerts every weekend in high school and college.
Keith is everything you said and more!
I am still recuperating! Take care of that back!
Claudia says
I know quite a bit about country music as Don listens to it – try as I might, it’s just not for me. As I have a vast library of all kinds of music, I’ve got more than enough to listen to!
So happy you had that experience after having gone through surgery. xoxo
kathy in iowa says
so glad that you had a great time at the concert!!! and saw that sweet young man also happy to be there.
i only know keith urban songs that made/ make it to radio, but those i’ve heard i like.
i’ve always liked country music, both old-style and newer stuff. not all of it, but a lot. my parents played lots of music (jazz, classical, country, contemporary, etc) and were open to whatever my brother, sister and i listened to. also, a cousin’s husband toured for years with bill anderson. been blessed to go to a lot of concerts over the years … stevie wonder, wayne newton, dolly parton, earth, wind and fire, prince, michael jackson (before all those sad changes and awful accusations), fleetwood mac, jimmy buffett and many more. not heard keith urban in concert. he’s on my list, though … as is gino vannelli, van morrison. wish i could have seen joe cocker.
anyway, deb, i’m glad you had a great time!
keep feeling better and better every day. and enjoy putting up the fall decorations.
xo,
kathy

I’m also fascinated by the traditions, especially shown with the funeral process for Queen Elizabeth… it’s comforting.
We’re having cooler weather here, though with a bit of humidity now, which I kind of like…I think partly because it reminds me of visits to Wisconsin and Michigan!
Hope you and Don are feeling better soon!
Claudia says
I hope we are, too. We’re both very sore and frustrated.
Thanks so much, Barrie.
Stay safe.
Bridget says
My dad was also born in 1952. His birthday is in a couple of months! I just spent almost two weeks helping him recover from surgery, and had a ten-hour ride back home, so my back hurts just like yours does. Even breaking the trip up over two days didn’t help.
Claudia says
Isn’t it terrible? I stopped occasionally and walked around, but it didn’t really help. Hope you feel better Bridget.
Stay safe.
Chris K in WI says
I have really been enjoying the coverage on BBC. I thought the service today was beautiful. The music, the readings, it was so lovely. Fitting for such a wonderful Queen.
Yes, this getting old isn’t fun. I remember when I believed in the idea of The Golden Years. Yeah, not so much!! Youth is wasted on the young is more like it.
Hope you are both feeling better each day. Take care.
Claudia says
It sucks, Chris. I’m older, wiser (most of the time), and creakier.
Stay safe.
Sandy says
I was born in November 1952, also. And I have always felt a special connection to Queen Elizabeth. We turn 70 this year!
Claudia says
I am well aware of it! Doesn’t seem possible, Sandy.

Don’t know if someone has already told you, but in September 14th message, Olivia’s shoes are on the wrong feet. I’m a teacher and told a little boy that one day, he looked down and said “These are the only feet I have.”
Claudia says
I already know that. I’m too lazy to change them at the moment! I love that story.
Thanks!
