The Babies Have Arrived

May 21, 2011 at 8:49 am by Claudia

Sometime on Thursday (exactly as I had calculated!) I noticed that Mama Robin was flying off the nest more frequently. On Friday morning, I saw a worm hanging from her beak. Ah! The babies have arrived.

I’ve seen both Mom and Dad feed the babies. There are at least 2 babies – maybe 3. When Mama was off on a worm mission, I opened the door to see if I could hear any peeps. They may be peeping but with all the other bird song around here, I couldn’t hear them. As I shut the door (camera not in hand) I saw little tiny open beaks. Of course, the minute I grabbed the camera, they disappeared. I did manage to get this shot:

See the little pink beak?  Tasty worm = happy baby bird.

Both Mom and Dad were on feeding duty in this shot.

Tired yet beautiful Mom.

I spend a ridiculous amount of time with camera in hand, lurking by the door, trying not to spook Mom. Patience is required. Lots of it. And then I have to leave for rehearsal. It’s not fair of the powers-that-be to expect me to work, is it?

Today is supposed to be rainy. Mom and Dad will be happy: lots of worms!

LOVE your little Robin Family photos!!! I don’t blame you for spending so much time watching them…..it’s just captivating, isn’t it? We usually have a nest in one of our little trees …but this year none so far. However, I did recently post about a young robin that was hanging out on our front porch..waiting to be fed! That Robin Family has been in our yard and our neighbor’s for a few days….it’s so much fun to “find the baby”, then see that mom and dad are near by searching for worms.

Hope you have a great weekend….I really enjoyed your previous post. Glad you got a better car!!

    Hi Claudia,

You captured some amazing photos! I love this time of year and I’m fortunate to have many birds building their nest on our property this year. I wake up early and the love hearing the birds chirping away in the large tree out back…I call it Hotel Chirp-a-lot! LOL

Thank you for your patience in capturing these shots, I loved seeing your lovely photos!
    xoxo

    Hi Claudia:
I’ve been waiting patiently, too, for their arrival. I knew you’d get some good shots! Looking forward to more. I like that you can have some fun like this – and that you’re not working all the time. Happy weekend birding!

I have had a nice time catching up on your blog. I am so glad to hear you now have a vehicle that you do not need to be concerned about. Yay! Fab that you had a chance to see a little of the countryside and visit an antique shop.
Your birdie family is so adorable! You do have great patience and photography skills as well.
I hope all is going well, and that the time is passing quickly.
    Hugs,
    Terri

Ahhh, what a good Mama she is. This is so much fun.

I miss the baby hummingbirds and diligent Mom we had in our garden for so long, but I see the babies flitting around now and it makes me happy.

Thanks for sharing this dear Claudia,

Congratulations! You are so blessed to be able to have your little family near enough to snap pictures. Have been eagerly awaiting their arrival LOL! I have been keeping my camera with me “just in case”, but by the time I get it out and figure out the proper buttons, my prey has escaped… I’ll keep trying. Blessings, Linda

Hello, Claudia! Sorry I haven’t been around lately. It’s been crazy here. Love the mama and papa robin photos! How blessed you are that they built their nest right where you are staying :)

Chloe looks right at home on the sofa. The red bow certainly adds some color :)

I am the queen of “second winds.” I, too, must go to bed at just the right time or I am suddenly on the other side of exhaustion and cannot get to sleep for the life of me.

Couldn’t agree more with your assessment of the obsession of youth and looks in this country.

Hope the rain lifts soon and you have a wonderful weekend!… Donna

Anyway, call in to work and tell them you have to sit with a friend that is a new mother. She needs your help and wants photos of the new babies….

Congratulations, Claudia! Fantastic photos. Aren’t they fascinating? I can totally understand you having to stand patiently with the camera. That’s why I’m not a wildlife photographer. :)

I hope you have a relaxing weekend. xoxo – g

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
