A Baby Shoe

May 4, 2009 at 11:56 am by Claudia

This was my Grandmother’s baby shoe. My Mom gave it to me many years ago. Grandma passed away in 1985 ~ she was in her 90’s. I have many treasures that belonged to Grandma, but this little shoe really touches me. How sweet it is with the cream colored buttons and soft black leather. It was worn on the little foot of a woman I only knew as an adult. It has stayed in remarkably good condition.

Right before I returned to California, I gently put it under my glass dome. It will be waiting for me when I return.

I love that shoe. It seems appropraite that it has aged so well, Grandma aged well also. I bet she was a fiesty baby. I miss her.

You are perfect. Remember a slightly fuller face doesn’t show the wrinkles like a skinny one like mine. I look old, maybe it is my teenager, what do you think?

What a treasure, Claudia, and what a sweet way to display it, under a glass dome. My Nana passed away in the sixties. How I’d have loved to have known her into my adulthood. Hope your week is stress free :)… Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

Hi Claudia: you may know I lost my grandma this week. Today we had to move her things. so, this is very meaningful to me today! I have saved a lot from her–including her christening cap.

We have so many things in common today. I love these old shoes. I have a pair that are really worn. I bought those from my friend Phyllis’s site, but I have another little shoe, that my mother in law gave to me. We haven’t a clue whose it was. When we were sorting through some old things of her parents, we found some of her dad’s military things, and inside a box with them, were two little shoes, missing their mates. I would love to know the story behind them.

It is wonderful to have special memories to go with things. Thank you for sharing yours.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
